‘Mirzya‘ has opened very poorly at the box office on Friday. The all-India average occupancy for the morning and noon shows was less than 10%. Due to the dull trailer and lack of awareness amongst the audience, it was a foregone conclusion that ‘Mirzya’ would open poorly, but there was hope that the film would garner good reviews. Unfortunately, even that hasn’t happened.
Why did Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan opt for a film like ‘Mirzya’ for his debut? The audience wants happier films that come with some entertainment value attached, but ‘Mirzya’ looked boring from the trailer and the audience simply weren’t interested. It seems to be a case of the actor signing the film looking only at the director’s track record - Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra after a classic like ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’.
‘Mirzya’ looks certain to be a big disaster and even recovering the marketing costs from domestic theatrical business could prove to be difficult, if the film does not show big growth on Saturday and Sunday.
‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story‘ opened very well last weekend, but could not sustain over the weekdays. The drops were big and if the film doesn’t hold over the weekend, it could even struggle to achieve ‘hit’ status. ‘MS Dhoni’ needs around 110 crore to attain hit status.

‘Pink‘ was excellent in its third week too and has sustained inspite of a big film like ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ releasing in theatres. The film is looking at a 67 crore finish, which would give it ‘super hit’ status.

Instead of calling dhoni the 2nd biggest 1st week scorer of the year u r busy talking abt drops..!! here is a reality check – airlift with strong wom had 6cr Wednesday & 5cr Thursday. …!!! bt it recovered well in 2nd week to score 28cr. actually this happens to every plex big earner bcz most plex audiences r busy on weekdays hence these films become weekend heavy. just wait & watch dhoni will score a 35cr 2nd week and LT will b 140cr+…!!

Sad to look at Dhoni’s trend, from a film that seemed to be a major 140-170 cr grosser during the first 3 days to a mere struggler to recover investment.
Nothing surprising about Mirziya here. It has already joined the league of Fitoor and Mohenjodaro to be the biggest disaster of the year.
I think the top 5 grossers of the year should be this way:

Harshvardhan is’nt a superstar material and I think he knows that. Maybe he wants to become another Irrfan Khan or Naseeruddin Shah, that’s why he opted for a dark movie rather than an entertainer.

Compare the opening and weekend collections of Airlift and MSD first and look at the drop levels of MSD.
Airlift weekend- 44.3 cr
Week 1- 83 cr
MSD weekend- 66 cr
Week 1- 94 cr
Don’t look at the numbers, compare the trend of both the films. Even Rustom had more collections in its first week compared to Airlift, but could it surpass Airlift?

That makes no sense, Airlift took an average start of 40 cr+ weekend and consistently scored in the long run.
Whereas Dhoni after such huge initials is scoring low, which clearly indicates that it won’t to do that great business in the coming days. The trend is similar to Singham Returns.

@Tony, Baahubali itself did 390 crores in all versions in India. Do u expect Baahubali 2 to collect less than 1st part??? Baahubali 2 and Robot 2.0 will do sure shot 450 crores in all versions. Even Tubelight can break the lifetime collections of PK if the movie is as good as Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

In the last month or so, whichever team did not go on The Kapil Sharma Show, their movie (Pink & MS Dhoni) have been huge hits.
Katrina Kiaf came first time onTKSS and she had the biggest disaster of her career (Fitoor and then also Baar Baar Dekho).
Aamir Khan has never been on TKSS and he has the biggest hits to his credit. Good movies don’t need promotions. Promotions help for first day or max 3 days after that it works if the audience loves it.
Anyone call ajay devgan non commercial actor before shetty is absurd lol. Ajay was always a commercial actor especially in intense action hero just because he ventured in some parallel cinema post 2000 doesn’t mean he was a non commercial actor
