Main Tera Hero has collected Rs 5.86 crore on its opening day at the box office, which is the 4th highest for 2014 behind films like Jai Ho, Gunday and Ragini MMS 2.
The David Dhawan film would have probably collected around 6.5 crore or more, if not for the India – South Africa T20 semi-final, which affected the evening and night shows on Day 1.
Even though Main Tera Hero was Varun Dhawan’s second film, the opening day business is better than films like Shahid Kapoor’s Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (5.3 cr), Sidharth Malhotra’s Hasee Toh Phasee (4.38 cr) and Farhan Akhtar’s Shaadi Ke Side Effects (5.45 cr).
On Saturday (today), the morning shows were better than Friday and evening shows are likely to have much higher occupancy as there are no cricket matches today.
However, since India has qualified for the big final tomorrow, shows from 6:30PM onwards will be affected.

Good collections considering the star cast, but it was also a wide release. That’s what music and promos can do, none of songs from the movies mentioned above were popular except for PPNH’s. Varun is also very popular among the youth audience, can’t ignore Illeana and Nargis either.

Just watched MTH, paisa vasool entertrainer 3 star from me. First half was ok nothing to shout for except Varun performance but second half had taken the film on right track. The punches, scenes and jokes were right in place due to good performance from supporting cast as Anupam kher,saurabh shukla,rajpal yadav get ample scope to create laughter along with Varum, Arunoday was also too good in second half. So its definite a watchable affair but for youth, no scope for family audiences. Illena and Nargis were good in their roles. But Varun shines in the film, his expressions, attitude, body language,dialogue delivery every thing was superb, he is too good in comedy and best thing in him is that he is star for masses among new actors Sid,ranbir,ranveer,arjun,shushant etc will appeal for Multiplex audience but Varun will love by masses, i watched the film and the cheers and seetis he got audience were the sign of his popularity, he has great screen presence.hope he will choose right films & different films ahead.
