Madras Cafe First Weekend Box Office Collections

Madras Cafe has collected around 20.25 crore in its first weekend at the box office. The film opened to a poor response on Friday morning, but with good reviews and positive word-of-mouth publicity, evening and night shows on the same day had much better occupancy at high-end multiplexes.

On Saturday, business picked up even at a few smaller centres as word spread that John Abraham’s second home production is one of the best films of 2013. The film had excellent growth in business on Sunday too with all India business of around 8 – 8.5 crore.

Madras Cafe is set for a long run at the box office, the overseas business too has been way above expectationa. Given the appreciation the film has received, the release of Satyagraha next week is unlikely to affect the film.

Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express too was rock-steady in its third weekend.  The film has collected around 11 crores in its third weekend at the box office. Lifetime business has crossed the 210 crore mark.

Madras Cafe Weekend Collections

  • Friday – 4.75 crore

  • The public today have become lot wise. On one hand they love masala entertainer flick on the other hand they love too, pictures like – Kaipoche, Special 26, Fukrey, Ranjhana, Lootera, BMB, Madras Cafe, etc.

  • @mz, on what basis are you saying that MC is average movie, only box office collections do not determine if the movie is average, bad or excellent.

  • Good to see a Movie like Madras Cafe getting good response, its help the a creative team to find and give audience something logical

Madras Cafe is a very good film Highly recommended

  • @MZ, Thankfully, some people still look to make Good films rather than thinking just about BO collections……Films like “Housefull”, CE, Ek tha Tiger, etc may have made a lot of money but in the long run people will only remember films like 3 Idiots, Tare Zameen Par, Madras Cafe etc……

  • Woww.. M happiee for both..
I wish madras cafe becomes a superhit atleast…though i dont like john much but he izz doin good work dese daezzz.n shoojit hatzz off to u.
In sha Allah I dont think satyagrahaa wil affect any of dese movies…it isnt lookin promising
    Keep goin #CE n #MC

  • @punit and @suresh:
    you both are right. .
    @mz:yes box office doesnt justify a movie’s greatness.eg:lootera,guzaarish,kahani etc.

  • @ all,

You cant compare madras cafe with chennai express..both movies are completly different..chennai express is a movie for mass audience from children to old age people..but madras cafe is based on a topic so its not a movie for entire audience..Kids will never understand..so dont compare….@ suresh people will surely remember chennai express…becoz of its beautiful message at the end..

  • @Sultan Khan – I agree. There are lot of other good and memorable films as well, I just gave 2-3 examples which came to my mind….

  • @ alt – I don’t think people are watching CE for its message. To be fair Rohit Shetty’s movies are fun to watch while you are watching it, that’s why they are hits. But after leaving the theatre you feel like there was nothing in it. And you hardly seem to care much about them afterwards. So I don’t think these films are in the catagory of memorable….

  • @suresh, movies are made to earn profit at the end of the day. If the movie is notgood why the hell people will come n watch n cross the collections of 200crores. I think u r a aamir khan fan frustated coz king khan crossed 3idiots collections. With big star you can definetly cross 100crores but not 200crores even when u release in 10000 screns if the movie is not good.

  • Amazing movie,,, don’t go by box office all the time,,, it was never meant to be a 100cr grosser,, what it has done is increase my respect for john manifolds,,, support movies like these indian audience

  • One cannot diss the public for not liking or liking a movie. One genre of movie would be sad that their genre does not make the kind of movie another genre does. So what?

Even though Yamaha has a cult following they keep making the bike, even though Hero and Bajaj have the maximum market share

Why compare at all? If its a reflection of our tastes then so be it. Let just face it. We are star driven. Families, especially women do not like to see gory or realistic movies. They will watch Chennai express, and so the movie makers are delivering it. So what?

  • @Syed, I am not a fan of anybody. I just want to see good films. I am not a producer of any film so I don’t care if it makes 200cr or 2Cr. When a film is completed then its quality is fixed. Its quality will not change by its box office collection. A good film will remain a good film and a bad film will remain a bad film. If Box office is only the criteria of judging a film then I think you will say CE is a better film then Swades or Chak de india becuase its a bigger hit…..I am not a SRK hater but I don’t claim a film good or bad just because of the actors in the film…..
