Live updates: Verdict on Salman Khan’s hit and run case

The verdict on Salman Khan’s hit and run case is expected at around 11:30AM. The superstar was tried under the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which is punishable with imprisonment up to 10 years.

If the verdict goes against him, Salman will be taken into custody immediately. He will have to apply to the high court for bail.

Salman Khan sentenced to 5 years in jail. The actor has been taken into police custody. He will be spending the night at Arthur Road Jail

11:30AM: Minimum sentence is 3 years, Normal sentence for which Salman is convicted is 5 years. Maximum 10 years.

11:25AM: The quantum of punishment will also be decided today. Salman Khan’s lawyers are asking for minimum punishment. The maximum punishment will be 10 years. The judge can reduce the quantum of punishment.

10:45AM: Sources say, the court room is filled to capacity. Salman looking a little nervous, is seen talking to his lawyer.
