List of Hindi films with holiday weekend releases in 2015

The trend of blocking big weekends in advance has continued this year too, as most holiday weekends of 2015 have been blocked by the top superstars in the industry.

Republic Day weekend: Three films are currently scheduled to release on January 23rd 2015 and atleast one of them is likely to be postponed to a later day as two of them are Akshay Kumar starrers. The film that eventually releases during the week with benefit from a 4-day extended weekend as Republic Day falls on Monday.

  • ‘Baby’ directed by Neeraj Pandey starring Akshay Kumar and Tapsee Pannu
  • ‘Gabbar’ directed by Krish starring Akshay Kumar and Shruthi Hassan
  • ‘Mr X’ directed by Vikram Bhatt starring Emraan Hashmi

Post-IPL weekend: The Friday after the conclusion of IPL is not considered a holiday weekend as such, but has been the third most lucrative weekend after Eid and Christmas in the last 5 years.  Two films are scheduled to release on 29th May 2015, one starring Ranbir Kapoor who delivered his biggest career hit Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013.

  • ‘Jagga Jasoos’ directed by Anurag Basu starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif
  • ‘The Xpose Sequel’ starring Himesh Reshammiya (director not announced)

Eid weekend: Salman Khan has rarely missed out on his most successful weekend. The year he decided to give a miss, Shahrukh Khan and Rohit Shetty released their family entertainer and the rest is history. However, the Eid weekend in 2014 and 2015 belongs to Salman.

  • ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ directed by Kabir Khan starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Release date: 16 July 2015.

Independence Day weekend: With the Eid weekend quickly moving towards the first half of the year, Yash Raj Films will release Shahrukh Khan’s Fan during Independence Day next year. The film, directed by Maneesh Sharma, will release on 14th August.

  • ‘Fan’ directed by Maneesh Sharma starring Shahrukh Khan.

Diwali weekend: Apart from Shahrukh Khan – Aditya Chopra / Yash Chopra and Hrithik Roshan – Rakesh Roshan, no other actor-director duo have been as successful as Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya. 16 years after Hum Saath Saath Hai, which also happened to release during Diwali, the legendary duo will return with yet another family drama titled ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.

  • ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ directed by Sooraj Barjatya starring Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor

Christmas weekend: Currently, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has locked the date to release his magnum-opus ‘Bajirao Mastani’ starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. ‘Shuddhi’ the other film scheduled to release next Christmas has been shelved for now. Since Aamir Khan hasn’t signed a film after ‘P.K’, things could get interesting if a top star decides to release his film during the Christmas weekend. Like we have seen in recent times, it doesn’t really matter who blocks the date first. The bigger stars always get the dates they want. OUATIMD – Chennai Express, Bombay Velvet – Welcome Back – P.K are two examples. Since Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjodaro’ will go on floors in September this year, the Ashutosh Gowariker film might just be ready in time for Christmas.

    Diwali: Prem Ratan/Raees

  • One great thing to know is industry is keenly waiting on what AAMIR is gonna do for after pk..
    Even his silence speak volumes

  • both gabbar and baby looks interesting.one is directed by immensely talented neeraj pandey and gabbar is remake of tagore one of the most critically acclaimed blockbuster.

  • M waitin for Bhajirao Mastani, Fan & Jagga Jasoos. Both Salman movies are having heroines whom I hate the most; Kareena & Sonam. So will be watching it depending on the reviews and WOM. Does anybody know when Ranbir – Jacqueline starrer Roy is releasing?

  • Next Year will test SRK’s ability to deliver huge hits if he don’t get any holiday weekends…
    Highly anticipating…

Salman has played a safe game by locking both the big weekends…

  • i think mohenjodaro will release in 2016 coz its a very big film wid huge sets so it ll take atleast 1 n a haf year…no worries coz dis is epic

  • @indicine wat do u mean by xpose sequel?hw cn they make sequel of a flop film?hate story was also a flop and that’s y hate story2 has zero buzz

  • My most awaited films for 2015 are:
    1.dil dhadkne do
    2.balraj sahani
    3.shuddhi
if mahenjo-daro releases in 2015, then it has to be mahenjodaro.
@indicine: are u sure dat balraj sahni will star DP n RS?

  • My advice to karans, wait for shuddhi. Book diwali/christmas 2016. N suggest hrithik to return back and cast Deepika.

  • Despite the super success of youngistaan indicine and its users don’t take us seriously.but after release of every youngistaan film indicine users get surprised.c’mon indicine, give due attention to youngistaan.

  • @Arjun kapoor

You are totally obsessed with Youngistaan now…!!!
Everyone knows what u did on the finding fanny trailer page…
This article is about major holiday weekends of 2015,where does ur Youngistaan jumped into all this…
    Control yourself Arjun,u r going insane now…
Every upcoming young actor film will be blockbuster…happy…

  • Raees should release in diwali 2015 and clash wid PRDP. .if it happens, then i feel raees may lead due to its commercial factor.

  • 2015 is probably going to be Salman, Hrithik and Ranbirs year, with a few surprises. SRK and Aamir seem out of the equation for now. The 2 should do more movies, 2 per year on an average basis.

  • @thullu abv avg verdict mixed with critical acclaim or atleast good wom can b termed a success.tell me one human who liked xpose.it is a complete failure at the box office.btw who told u hate story was hit??????u hv totally lost it thullu

  • THE films that will crush all box office records and will set a trend everyone will copy- fan n raess. After mnik all SRK movies has opened to record collections. FAN n raess will be huge as both will have positive WOM. Haters KING has returned to rule

  • Eid(Bajrangi Bhaijaan) and Diwali(PRDP) next year and Eid(Kick) and Christmas(PK) this year.It will be ‘Too much fun’ watching these 4 movies atleast 3 times in theatres.
