With My Name Is Khan and 3 Idiots postponed to early next year, Kites is inarguably the biggest release of 2009. The film has been sold for 100 crores plus to Big Cinemas and the collections are expected to match that of Ghajini last year, if not break it.
The Hrithik Roshan – Barbara Mori – Kangana Ranaut starrer directed by Anurag Basu is all set to release during the Diwali weekend and the makers couldn’t have picked a better release date with all the hype, more than 4 months before release.
The official release date of Kites is October 16th 2009, and it could well be the solo biggie for Diwali. Hrithik’s last diwali release was way back in 2000, the year he made his debut with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. The film was Mission Kashmir and it clashed with Shahrukh Khan’s Mohabbatein. Mission Kashmir won the “opening” battle, but Mohabbatein raked in more money at the box-office. Well, that’s history.
Back to the present, Kites is being made in two versions, one in Hindi and the other in English for the international audience. There were rumors that the English version isn’t ready yet, but the makers have confirmed the release date saying they have a lot of time on hands to complete Kites in English.
