Khiladi 786 HIT or FLOP: Box Office Prediction

Yet another film for the masses! Khiladi 786 releases in theatres tomorrow and the film is expected to open well at the box office. 2012 has been a good year for the film’s lead star Akshay Kumar – Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore were universal hits, OMG! Oh My God exceeded expectations, while ‘Joker’ a film that he literally disowned, was a box office disaster.

12 years after the last Khiladi (420) film released, Akshay returns to the series that made him the star that he is today. (Read article: Action superstar Akshay Kumar and the Khiladi series) Can Khiladi 786 conquer the box office? Will the film cross 100 crores, making Akshay the first superstar to have 3 films in the ‘club’ in a year?

Khiladi 786 will open well at single-screens as Akshay has a strong following in smaller towns and the music is a big hit with the masses. The advance booking at multiplexes hasn’t really been upto the mark, so we expect a slow start at major cities in the morning, but business will pickup for the evening/night shows.

The opening day collections should be around 13-14 crores nett. Below is our detailed HIT or FLOP Box Office Prediction for Khiladi 786

IF VERY GOOD (positive word-of-mouth)
Khiladi 786

  • Weekend (3 day) – 47 crores
  • Weekdays (Mon-Thu) – 25 crores
  • Week 1 –  72 crores
  • Final – 120 crores+ (Superhit)

IF AVERAGE (mixed response)

  • Weekend (3 day) – 43 crores
  • Weekdays (Mon-Thu) – 20 crores
  • Week 1 –  63 crores
  • Final – 90-100 crores (HIT)

IF BAD (worst case scenario)

  • Weekend (3 day) – 38 crores
  • Weekdays (Mon-Thu) – 16 crores
  • Week 1 –  54 crores
  • Final – < 70 crores (Average)

If accepted Khiladi 786 could go on to be Akshay Kumar’s second biggest hit of the year (after Rowdy Rathore). Two factors that will help the film in the long run – two open weeks before the release of Dabangg 2; and Talaash isn’t carrying the super-strong word-of-mouth that most Aamir Khan films do.
