Katti Batti Review by Indicine

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Nikhil Advani has to be one of the strangest movie directors we have in Bollywood. He has tried to dabble in a lot of genres but ends up being the jack of all trades and the master of none. He should stick to one genre and perfect it before moving on to new genres. In Katti Batti, he and his cowriter Anshul Singhal mixup various Hollywood romcoms and make a mess of it in the form of Katti Batti. The true strength of a romantic film are the subtle moments and Katti Batti is mostly just filled with buffoons who amplify every moment because apparently subtlety is a word they have never heard. Katti Batti is a jumbled up, boring, incoherent film. None of the comic moments make a mark and neither do the romantic ones. And the climax is one big disaster!

Katti Batti Review by Bollywood Hungama

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

KATTI BATTI primarily belongs to Imran Khan and Kangna Ranaut. As for the performances, Imran Khan, who hasn’t had a release for sometime now, is decent only. In the film, he keeps on running after Kangna’s character despite the constant refusal from her. His character seems spineless beyond a point. A little more dedicated effort from Imran’s side into his character could have given him an extremely convincing onscreen presence. On the other hand, Kangna Ranaut, from whom expectations are sky-high now after her last two hit releases (QUEEN and TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS), seems to be a letdown in KATTI BATTI. One cannot blame her totally for the mess, as her character did not have scope to do anything extra-ordinary. It is indeed sad to see a talented actress like her not having much to do in the film. She also has comparatively lesser screen time as compared to Imran Khan. The rest of the actors help in the film moving forward.

Katti Batti Review by Sukanya Verma on Rediff

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Absolutely nothing transpires in the first half, even the all-essential ‘meet cute’ is awfully stale, there’s no grand philosophy around their romance, no zing in the chemistry.

Katti Batti Review by Ananya Bhattacharya on India Today

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

In all, you might as well skip Katti Batti and do something more worthwhile this weekend. Those are 2 hours of your life spent wondering when you’ll be able to walk out of the theatre. Unless you want to be subjected to the ‘F’ of ‘FOSLA’.

Review by Shreya Thakur on Deccan Chronicle

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Over all Katti Batti does have a few surprises and not all of them are pleasant. The production values are very high, the film is well stylised and a very good looking product on the whole. If you like a string of beautiful visuals with good looking people and don’t care much for a story, then you could try Katti Batti. But don’t say you weren’t warned.

Review by Srijana Mitra Das on The Times Of India

Rating: ★★★☆☆

In a sense, Katti Batti is vintage Nikhil ‘Salaam-e-Ishk’ Advani – pretty but so full of cute little somethings, the plot’s overall impact gets jumbled. Here, an emotional twist takes you by surprise but the lead pair’s bond doesn’t develop enough agony, enough ecstasy – perhaps because they seem to live their life with so many buddies, including the Fosla Band.

Review by Shubhra Gupta on Indian Express

Rating: ½☆☆☆☆

Imran Khan is pleasant and earnest, Kangana Ranaut has knocked it out of the park a couple of times while playing feisty, and is capable of mining real emotions even in the fakest of films.

Review by Sreeju Sudhakaran on Bollywood Life

Rating: ★★½☆☆

One of Katti Batti’s few strengths are the performances Nikhil Advani extracted from its lead pair. Imran Khan makes a confident comeback, as a believable protagonist who goes through his downs and more downs following the breakup. Unlike the rumours, he is not overshadowed by his now far more popular co-star; instead he has a bigger role here and he makes us root for him with his charming performance. This is a role right there in his safe zone. Kangana Ranaut, although let down by poor writing, delivers a commendable performance, especially during the end portions. Both share an adorable chemistry, during in the flashback portions, reminding us of Leonard and Penny from The Big Bang Theory. We only wish the director could have fleshed out those portions well. The first half is breezy though not outstanding and the camera work by Tushaar Kapoor captures the beauty of both Mumbai and Delhi well.

Review by Shubha Shetty Saha on Mid-Day India

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Imran Khan is sincere. Kangana has by now proved that she’s a brilliant actress, but here she seems to be faltering a bit as if she is desperately looking for a firm footing in terms of a convincing character. And then she shines in the last ten minutes of the film, yet again leaving us in no doubt about what she is capable of. In fact, the last ten odd minutes of the film keeps you hooked to the screen. But obviously that is not enough at all.

Review by Shishir Gautam on Nowrunning

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

What Nikhil managed to bring out is a confused product, unsure if it wants to be a heartbreak story or a comedy. Hence it becomes difficult for anyone viewer to sustain interest or for that matter relate to any of the situations.

Review by Rohit Vats on Hindustan Times

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Advani has used good transition tools, but they are ineffective because of average acting by both Imran and Kangana. The literal toilet humour of the second half makes life more difficult for the audience who witnesses a really prolonged climax for no apparent reasons.

Review by Ritika Handoo on Zeenews

Rating: ★★★☆☆

If you go thinking that Kangana Ranaut and Imran Khan starrer ‘Katti Batti’ is something on the lines of a fresh, peppy urbane love story, then you will be taken for a toss. Filmmaker Nikhil Advani seems to have used his ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ formula this time with these two stars but with a bit of twist.

Review by IANS on NDTVMovies

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

The script, written by director Nikhil Advani and Anshul Singhal, has a convoluted screenplay riddled with forced humour and glaring plot holes which include underdeveloped characterisations.

Review by Tushar Joshi on DNA India

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Katti Batti has a promising start, but a weak script and some run of the mill moments kills the chances of it turning into something worth your time and money.

Review by Rachit Gupta on Filmfare

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Director Nikhil Advani’s efforts in making Katti Batti are pretty evident. His film looks top notch with its visuals as well as detailing all on mark. The opening credits done with the stop motion video is a nice touch too. It’s just the total turnaround from being a quirky romance to a weepy love saga seems a bit jarred. The humour doesn’t work at all. The music is just about okay as well. It could all have been slightly better, but even so, what plays out on screen is largely good enough for fans of the romantic genre.

Review by Rajeev Masand on IBNLive

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Imran Khan, who is relied upon to do most of the heavy lifting in the film, has an affable charm and is convincing as the hopeless romantic. This is one of his better performances, even if the script does occasionally reduce the character to a pathetic whiner. Kangana Ranaut is mostly underutilized in a role that’s lacking depth. She’s great in scenes that tap into her terrific comic timing, but it’s a shame she didn’t have more to do here.

Review by Kunal Guha on Mumbai Mirror

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Director Nikhil Advani, who is yet to recover from Hero, should pad up for a double whammy as a large part of how this film has turned out will be (rightfully) pinned on him. An obvious flaw would be his inability to tell an endearing love story that’s remotely relatable. The fact that the lead duo shares zero chemistry doesn’t help either. Based on the buildup, the big breakup in the film seems inevitable if not necessary.

Review by Sonia Chopra on Sify

Rating: ★★½☆☆

This is a film you wanted to like for various reasons, primarily that there hasn’t been a good Hindi film on our screens since long. And secondly for Kangna Ranaut who steals your heart with her performance, in spite of the fact that you struggle to understand her character’s behavior right till the end.

Review by Vishal Verma on Indiaglitz

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

The comedy falls flat, the romance isn’t intriguing enough to make us feel for the boy or the girl plus the backward forward narration muddles the process. Imran Kangana look fresh. Both the lead have fallen prey to weak writing which is further marred by cliché mentality. It’s a rom com so college is a must. The lack of finesse in twining manipulative sugary emotions with reality as done by other makers is clearly missing.

Review by Githa Vanan on Bollyspice

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Katti Batti could have been the latest love story to take on life and the box office. But sadly it is simply added onto the list of so-close-yet-so-far film for our director saab.

Review by Meetu on Wogma

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

For some reason it felt like the run-time was decided before the script – the movie has to be this long no matter how you reach the number. Add songs, add random back and forth, add inconsequential scenes. No matter if they don’t hold an iota of viewer’s interest.

  • why is everone saying imran khans career is over ? a lot of reviewer have written that they(imran, kangana) are good in the movie with good acting.
Its the director who made a bad film again with a booring skript
so blame him and not imran

  • This article based on katti batti some fools are talking about kanjooswale and the hrithik roshan
    Why I didn’t understand
Indicine you should be filter these dumb comments
    Thank you

  • feeling sad for imran..still hoping kattti batti will be a hit
bdw most reviews suggest he outscored kangana..which is a good sign.
anyways i will watch it later this week In Sha Allah

  • man this imran khan is just a bad bad luck for everyone now for kangana, b4 that it was for deepika, anushka also for akki OUATIMD movie was good akki’s performance was highly praised… but due to imran khan movie flopped….

  • I did not find anything wrong in the movie… Not sure why critics are bathing it…. Romcom means romcom…. What else do u expect…. Even Hollywood romcom has nothing new to offer for many years now…. And as such this genre is for youth…who will go for it in any case…..

  • Hahaha….most of the Deepika lovers are bashing Kangana for no fault of hers. You cannot ask her to do Tanu or Datto with an average script.

No matter how much you are pulled down Kangs, you are THE BEST!!!

How the PR tricks works in media, when Piku was released, all praised the script, direction and Amitabh. All they said of Deepika was that she was okay. But now over the time with consistent PR works, Piku is all about Deepika and her brilliant performance. I wonder how much she spends on these media crooks.

  • Just finished watching Brothers on Laptop, and sad to say but…….I should have watched in Theatre!!!
The movie was awesome and was better than Warriors(Trust me, I have seen Both). I had been putting it off for many days dues to bad reviews and finally got around to watching it(after watching other movies like Welcome Back and De Dana Dan(One of the best comedy movies with great music!!!) Do not believe reviews people!!! If they can give Happy New Year 4 stars than this deserves 40 Stars!!!
    My Review
performances were great by everyone including the kid even though her role was very small, she played a big part in story. Jackqueline was also good in this unglamoured role

Direction was great except in some fight scenes which changed camera angles too quickly

Fightiing was also great but the first fight of the tournamnet was a little unbelievable. It would have been better if they made the punch in a different angle and face as it looked wierd.

Music was perfect, even though there was an item song, it was played for 4 minutes only and half the time screen was showing Akshay training instead of kareena so family quality was not disturbed, Sapna Jahaan was a great song and deserves a thoughtful listen to its lyrics and soothing music

Story was improved from original warriors in every way especially showing a better role for father and a better reason for their hatred for each other(monty and david)

The only negatives were that it did not show any interaction between Monty and David prior to the fight(as was shown in warriors) Another thing was that they could have changed the end result of the final fight as it would have been a more fun watch. I’m sure karan malhotra would’ve thought of something for this change.

The drama in this was great as well
I would seriously recommend everyone to watch this on dvd.

The last but not the least, the most negative thing about it was the reviews(seriously)
Don’t have faith in critics anymore:
Brothers, great film deserved hit, flopped due to bad reviews
Hamari Adhuri Kahani, great film, deserved hit, flopped due to bad reviews.
Mr. X, great film, deserved hit, flopped due to reviews
Gabbar also got some bad reviews
Roy, a bit slow but good romantic film, deserved it, but flopped due to bad reviews
    while

Dil Dhakne Do, bad film, deserved flop, average due to good reviews
ABCD2, bad film, deserved flop, superhit due to good reviews.
Welcome Back,Okayish film, desrved below average, hit due to good reviews

Still haven’t watched Katti Batti and Bombay Velvet but will watch definitely due to critics disliking them to see whether they really are flawed or not!!!

dont trust critics. they are no longer trust worthy. Go on your own judgement. You can’t change past but you can learn from it. How many times will we be cheated by the critics and media?

If you want to go watch Katti Batti, go and watch and don’t look at reviews

  • not that interested to see this film but if I changed my mind.. it will be just to see Kangana’s performance, loved her acting and the depth in her facial expression, sadness in her eyes and voice from her first film Gangster.. first impression is the last impression for sure.. and when I saw Imraan Khan in his first film which I hated the most.. I always thought that he doesn’t have a bright future!
