2016 has been a good year so far for the Hindi film industry. Airlift became the all-time highest grosser of January, Neerja came close to beating Gunday but ended up taking the second spot and Kapoor & Sons continued the terrific run by becoming the all-time highest grosser of March.
However, no film in February and March has ever crossed the 100 crore mark, which is strange because every other month has two or more 100 crore domestic grossers. There can only be two reasons for this – exams and the fact that big stars in the last few years are opting to release their films in the second half of the year.
All eyes are now on Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan. The target isn’t big – the highest grosser of April is Housefull 2 (112 crore).

@Indicine. This analysis is misleading since over time, Eid releases will be across each and every month (see over period July-Sept: BB, Ek tha Tiger and Dabangg). Remove Eid, Divali and Xmas factor from the list and then compare to obtain standardized comparison.

It is great to see Neerja doing 75 CR and taking the 2nd spot in the month of Feb . Although I feel it deserved to take the first position . Now Fan has every chance to beat H2 and this take will take SRK’s tally with 3 – Fan, CE and HNY . May seems to be almost impossible as I don’t think Azhar, Sarbjit and TE3N can do 190 CR . Akshay can beat RR to take H3 to 1st position . UP might do 100 CR if it is appreciated . According to recent reports Sultan will have a solo release on Eid so it has a chance to break BB although it will be extremely tough but if it is accepted than anything can happen . Mohenjo Daro can do the unthinkable and might do more than 200 CR on Non Holiday if it is accepted . Rangoon, MS Dhoni and BBD will not do more than 140 CR . Shivaay has a chance to beat HNY as it is looking grand and massive . ADHM might do 100 CR+ if is good or even more as KJO has a 100 % success ratio . The record of K3 will be intact this year for sure . Aamir can beat himself with Dangal although it will be extremely difficult as it is a Biopic and based on wrestling but still it can beat 3 Idiots in the worst scenario according to me . @Indicine : In article you mentioned Housefull 2 Lifetime collections as 112 crs. In the month wise list it is listed as 116 crs. Actual collections of Housefull 2 per your data is 116 crs then why this blunder ? Please correct this.
