Dharma Productions’ latest release Kapoor & Sons has not only become one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, but the Shakun Batra directed film is on course to become the 3rd major success of 2016 after Airlift and Neerja.
The film has passed the ‘Monday test’ with flying colours, as the drop from Friday to Monday was just 26%. This is huge, simply because of the fact that tickets at multiplexes sell for cheaper prices during the weekdays. The occupancy on Monday was as high as Friday, but the collections are lower because of lower ticket prices.
Kapoor & Sons has collected Rs 31.43 crore in 4 days at the box office. There is a holiday in parts of the country for Holi, so the first week business could touch the 45 crore mark.
The Sidharth Malhotra starrer has also performed phenomenally well at the overseas box office. The first weekend ($2.92 million) was better than a big film like Airlift ($2.78 million).
It’s also important to note that all three films that have worked this year, have received phenomenal reviews. While mediocre films have failed at the box office, good films have been extremely profitable.

Akshay Kumar has always been a popular actor in overseas market it’s just that he did some bad films in recent time that is why his popularity in overseas has gone down..!!!!!! After SIK had he chosen his films carefully I guarantee you he would have been a bigger star than your srk..!!!

Airlift did no business in Pakistan and even in UK the movie collection was below the mark… Otherwise a 60-65cr from overseas was guaranteed..!!!!!

Last year one 8.8 imdb movie drishym did only 63 trade nd Tamasha only 68 ..almost half of airlift. So all good movies can’t match the collections of airlift. So don’t compare neerja nd kapoor n sons with airlift. There is lot of difference in their collections .

Amir is the only person who has matched or crossed SRK in overseas market and that too after 3I. But Akshay ? With SRK we talk about blockbusters and superhits in overseas markets and you are talking about the number of hits by Akshay. SRK has always been the master of overseas there with no real competition till as I said Amir arrived with 3I.
And if u r quoting Indicine then remember the formula they had quoted:
1 Amir movie (PK) is greater than 10 Akshay movies.

So it proves that SRK is afraid to release his movies on non holiday since 2010 whereas Salman had releases in 2014. Now even FAN is also not an non holiday release as April 15th is Ram Navmi, majority of states in North India have holidays though not a festive release like EDX !!!!!!!!
