Dharma Productions’ latest release Kapoor & Sons has not only become one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, but the Shakun Batra directed film is on course to become the 3rd major success of 2016 after Airlift and Neerja.
The film has passed the ‘Monday test’ with flying colours, as the drop from Friday to Monday was just 26%. This is huge, simply because of the fact that tickets at multiplexes sell for cheaper prices during the weekdays. The occupancy on Monday was as high as Friday, but the collections are lower because of lower ticket prices.
Kapoor & Sons has collected Rs 31.43 crore in 4 days at the box office. There is a holiday in parts of the country for Holi, so the first week business could touch the 45 crore mark.
The Sidharth Malhotra starrer has also performed phenomenally well at the overseas box office. The first weekend ($2.92 million) was better than a big film like Airlift ($2.78 million).
It’s also important to note that all three films that have worked this year, have received phenomenal reviews. While mediocre films have failed at the box office, good films have been extremely profitable.

If Dil Dhadakne Do despite mixed reviews and competition from a big Hollywood film in 2nd week followed by a big Bollywood film in 3rd week can score 23cr post 1st week then Kapoor&Sons carrying far better wom but similar tough competition in subsequent weeks should score 40cr approx post 1st week. That means Kappor&Sons lifetime will be 85cr approx. Superb

It’s great that good movies are now starting appreciating . Kapoor and sons is excellent movie. I personally like 2nd half. 1st half also good. This year 3 critically acclaimed movies of 1st quarter airlift, neerja and kapoo and sons are doing well at b.o. There are also line up of many promising movies. 2016 is likely seems to be best year in bollywood history.

Best film of 2016 so far (my opinion),this film is a mixture of good script,directing and acting.
Watching it again this thursday.
NRI’s are deprived of their families living in india and hence in overseas family drama that also from dharma productions always scores. so donot compare with airlift which is of different genre.
I had already predicted that the movie will recover costs within 5 days & it has done so.
Will atleast touch the 45 cr mark by end of Week 1.
Lifetime will be can go anywhere around 70cr & beyond.
Verdict – Super hit.

I’m not surprised by the fact that K&S has surpassed Airlift overseas.
Sidharth’s movies have always opened well overseas, plus Dharma has a name for itself with the overseas section of audiences.
Akshay on the other hand has never enjoyed popularity abroad.
K&S will be the highest overseas grosser of the year before FAN takes over its lifetime collection overseas within the 1st Day.

Airlift collected 6.5M in January when North American circuit was impacted by blizzard and severe weather conditions.
Without the presence of any big producer/distributor,on limited screens it did very well.
Pakistan circuit was below par as obviously a patriotic Indian film won’t work there while Kapoor and sons has Fawad Khan,the Pakistani superstar!
Otherwise it even mediocre films of Akki like Brothers and SIB were hits in Pak and both collected just more than even PRDP.
Good collection… Fawad was outstanding he is better Acting than Siddharth in kapoor & sons….And also it will be end up with above 60 cr Range….
