Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Movie Review

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na marks the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s nephew Imraan Khan. Abbas Tyrewala of Munnabhai M.B.B.S and Main Hoon Na fame (as a writer) has scripted and directed this fun flick mainly targetted at the youth. This is also the first movie from Aamir Khan productions to not feature the superstar himself. But any product that Aamir lends his name to, is keenly anticipated and be rest assured, high on quality. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is no exception!

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is about Jai Singh Rathore a.k.a Rats (Imraan Khan), a Rajput who doesnt believe in violence and Aditi Mahant a.k.a Meow (Genelia D’Souza), a cute and violent girl. Aditi feels Jai is a big coward and Jai says her parents should have rinsed her mouth with soap! They fight like crazy but just cant live without each other. They are almost a made for each other couple, their parents know this, friends know it, but they believe they are just great friends, no more, no less. Does friendship turn into love?

Jane Tu Ya Jane Na Review

Whatever Aamir Khan touches seems to be turning into gold. First Lagaan, then Taare Zameen Par and now Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, although not in the same league, is yet another classic from Aamir Khan productions. What works for Jaane Tu is the well etched characters, performed brilliantly by the actors. Its not just the main characters, but even the supporting characters that add a lot of value to Jaane Tu.

Director Abbas Tyrewala has executed the script with brilliance. The first half is almost flawless, a simple tale of friendship and love, that either makes you smile or laugh. The second half, could have been better.. it tends to drag a tad bit at times and gets predictable when Genelia is engaged. The writer should have opted for a different climax and made it slightly more believable. The dialogues are witty, hilarious at times and brilliant. The music by A.R. Rehman is perfect for the movie. “Pappu cant dance saala” and “Kabhi Kabhi” stand out.

Scenes that stand out in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

  • Aditi’s parents and Jai’s discussion on the engagement. Funny!
  • Aditi wonders how the 5 years passed by. “On the phone beta” says Jai’s mom.
  • Scene between Amit and Aditi, his confession. Heart warming and brilliant!
  • Aditi begins to realise her love for Jai only when Manjari Phadnis enters the scene. The jealousy, sadness and regret is executed and performed perfectly.
  • When Amit takes Aditi into his room.
  • Scenes between Jai’s mother and his dead father (he talks from a portrait). Hilarious!
  • The chemistry between the gang of 6 friends.
  • Honestly I didnt like the climax, but the performance by Genelia and Imraan, when surrounded by the cops, makes an impact.

I can just go on and on, great moments make a great movie and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has simply fantastic moments in abundance.

Coming to the performances, Imraan Khan reminded me a lot of Aamir Khan, especially the mischievious grin. Imraan overall makes a solid debut, not once does he go over the top. A good restrained performance, this actor will surely go a long way. Genelia D’Souza’s expressions alone are worth the price of the ticket. She oozes cuteness and performs well. Manjari Phadnis looks good, acts well. Ratna Pathak Shah is superb as always. Paresh Rawal makes you laugh a couple of times. Naseeruddin Shah in a short role is just perfect. The director has managed to extract excellent performances from every other character actor.

Overall, Jaane Tu is immensely enjoyable and high on entertainment. If your looking for a movie on friendship and love, that makes you smile and laugh at times. Dont miss it! At the box-office, the lacklustre performance of Love Story 2050 along with good word out mouth should ensure a HIT status atleast!

  • Horrrible movie.Poor direction and extremely poor acting.I am surprised to see such reviews for such a movie.Totally misleading. There is no flow and all scenes are cooked up like a kinder garden story,no originality at all.

  • Just to add,I am a big fan of Aamir and really liked Lagaan and Thaare Zameen Par.Those were awesome movies. But this one is real crap. The hero is just good for photos,he has no acting skills at all.And surprisingly Rahman also below average in this movie.Genelia was good to watch but dialogues spolied all the fun.

I serioulsy doubt if all these “excellent”,”wonderful” reviews written by real viewers or just another promotion stunt to hype the movie??

  • You cant compare this movie with the class of Lagaan nd Tare Zameen Par. I like’d this fun movie a lot!!.in its own way, The cast was good. And Mr i am not a fake person giving these comments. As you were not fake.

  • Brilliant job done by all…

Right from main Actor to all the team…

    Even I don’t have word to define…………….

    Brilliant………

  • allswell: I know that u would be surprised that I didn’t like Rang de Basanti and I loved all the mentioned movie, but I asked a question and u didn’t answer (I’ll make it more clear): What r the negative points in these 3 movies?? Was it the direction, prodcution, acting, music and songs, the script?? I need an answer whether u did allswell or any other commentator, just want to know. If I loved these movies and didn’t like Range de Basanti for the following reasons:

Rang De Basanti: I found only the comedy scenes were good, the script wasn’t, show during the movie a flash back about Bagahat Singh didn’t like it (cause I loved the movie : The legend of Baghat Singh) and had a feeling that Aamir just loved to make some copy of this movie and just loved to play the roll of Baghat through this movie. Aamir’s acting in the last scene was poor, when he was crying. That’s some of the reasons therefore I didn’t enjoy watching it.

I know.. u all didn’t watch the remake of Umrao Jaan ’cause u thought that the original was better!! Dear.. after watching the remake, I watched the old one, as many people told me the same – just to compare both and found the following:

    – In the remake, the director rectified some flaws in the original and they are:
    a) In the original, Rekha acts as a prostitute, she doesn’t mind the guy who used to flirt with her to receive gifts from him then to sleep with him. That’s the job of all prostitutes and the main story is that Umrao Jaan or “Ameeran” was a good girl from a good family and wasn’t born in this filthy society as they kidnapped her ( so the director has to show that she’s a decent woman and rejects to be a prostitute ( AND THAT’S WHAT THE DIRECTOR OF THE REMAKE VERSION DID)
    b) In the original: Her lover tells her that his mom chose for him a bride.. means he can’t marry her, and she doesn’t show any anger, she accepts and during their dialogue, she shows him that whatever makes him happy would make her happy too. ( I can’t remember the dialogue, but something like that). Lateron, one day he knocks her door to invite her for the wedding, and (see Rekha’s reaction in the movie!) she hits him with her both hands and start crying loudly and accuse him!! ( IN THE REMAKE.. AISHWARIYA SHOWS HER JEALOUSY WHEN ABHISHEK TELLS HER THIS FACT, THAT HIS FAMILY WANT HIM TO MARRY SOMEONE ELSE)
The remake was (perfect) with no flaws at all, the script, the direction & production, the performance (specially Aish, she deserved best actress award for this movie), the songs, the cast, everything was interesting. ( I saw it 3 times) and don’t tell me some minor reasons which, as someone mentioned, that Aishwariya couldn’t speak Hindu correctly and 4get all the good thing about the movie!!

Saawariya: without explaining anything, was the best romantic movie with best music and direction in Indian Cinema ( I think people who didn’t like never notice all these stuff!!)

Tararampum: I mentioned already, under LS2050 my opinion ( a perfect entertaining family package with no flaws and with best musics.. this movie can’t be compared with the latest “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic as it was bad in the script and a boring one)

I’ve explained whatever I could in brief.. now could u all tell me what you didn’t like about these movies. Thanks

  • Fathiya you seem to have a lot of time with you writing such a long reply. but i will try to be trese and concise for my reply

About umrao jaan ( I have watched both original and the duplicate)
These r the flaws in the duplicate
    a) nawabs of luknow do not grow beards(historically incorrect)
there r no deserts in lucknow(geographically in correct)
b)abhisek is bad in acting I may even say worst
C)the music of the movie sucked
D)the acting of supporting characters was awful

More ever the movie was totally dissapointing and guess who agrees with me Amitabh bachchan (you mave watched his critical remarks did not you )

Moreever the film was biggest flop of its time

So these r the reasons abt other films i may report in due time

  • Fathiya the point is that u dont like the movie fair enough. But majority do and thats what matters! So accept it, you cant change people opinion.

  • Dear Allswell: Well.. It’s not that I don’t accept the fact u said, it’s not that I want to prove that I got a good taste in movies or observe some flaws and others don’t. It a gathering her, connecting with each other and sharing opinions, which way we evaluate any movie. Believe me.. during all these years, and as a Bahraini, used to watch lots of movies with my families, friends and used to love some movies and found out later that the movies were flop or average. Therefore I’m here, just to know which way, as u are all indians, and on what basis do u evaluate any movie, which way u think, and what’s the reason for the flop of any movie we found it good.
I’m not an Indian therefore I don’t know about all what you mentioned, and also never knew about BigB’s opinion. Ok.. if u guys never observe any good stuff in any movie but some minors e.g. there’s no desert in Luknow, or nawab never grew beards, ( we, as other nationalities aren’t aware of all these stuff, when we watch a movie, we’re interested in the story, the performance, the music & the songs, the direction & production and nothing else.
u said that Abhishek’s acting was bad and the team work, no.. he wasn’t bad at all, and also u didn’t comment on what I noticed in both the original and the remake. Do u have anything to say further? And what about Aishwariya’s performance? She was excellent in the last scenes of the movie, made me cry.

And what about Tararampum, Mangal Pandey & Saawariya?

  • oh thts reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyy a beauty its gud to see both the stars ……..
its rocking specially genelia oh my god i cant believetht she will act like this fulllllllcredit to amir and imran

  • Its ameging brillient movie i have seen this type of good movie after a long time. Every younger those want to see film on real friendsheep he must watch this movie. After Kutch Kutch Hota hai in this movie real defination of love.

  • hey gr8 movie superb acting by each n every one…Honestly I didnt like the climax, but the performance by Genelia and Imraan, when surrounded by the cops, makes an impact.

  • hey, its awesome movie, blockbuster, no word to discribe it….. people often try to find out mistakes in movie, but in this tendency they neglect acting, songs, and quality of the movie. Its completly for youngees. There is no such movie unless TARE JAMEEN PAR, makes good impression or in viewers mind, so apart from all other movie this is much batter one. One cant make any comparison between anything. Every movie has its own way to entrain people….

  • it was realy a fantastic movie …………..
i realyyyyyyyyyyyyyy wants tooo see tis movie 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000……….

    khans rock the moviiiiii to
this was the best film which i have ever seen after tzm par

  • I can just say… i havn’t missed any of the shows till now of Jane tu ya jane nah… so.. i can say nothing more…this movie roks…

  • Great pic. Amir and Genelia done a great job. this is lovable pic. and i wants to see movie again and again

  • Allswell: U r quiet.. I think u didn’t watch the 3 movies which I mentioned and u just mentioned what other people said or what u read in newspapers or websites and came up with this conclusion!!
Let me ask u a question: If u all observe these minor stuff in any movie then hwo come that u all loved Chakde India?!! Chakde was a very good movie, but after watching, a friend of mine who’s indian told me that there’s a mistake in the script as India didn’t participate in the world champion cup, and they won only in India. So this means that the director manipulated the fact and introduced what wasn’t based on reality!! So how come that everyone liked it and no one criticised the movie or mentioned this fact?!!

I loved it even if that was true ’cause it’s only a movie and any movie based on a true story won’t tell us 100% the true story.
When we enter a cinema, we just need to have a good time, to see a good direction with best stories and performance, and some good music.. that’s it, and I found all that while watching the 3 movies which I mentioned earlier, but didn’t find it in Jaane Tu!

  • COPY OF A ENGLISH MOVIE – COPY OF A ENGLISH MOVIE – COPY OF A ENGLISH MOVIE

WELL HAVE U GUYS SEEN “WHEN HARRY MET SALLY” THE ENTIRE STORY TELLING THING IS PICKED UP FROM THERE, AND THE MOVIE IS ON THE SAME LINES.

NICE TRY FOR A HINDI VERSION, BUT SERIOUSLY, BOLLYWOOD CAN NEVER BE ORIGINAL, FU**IN WASTE OF MONEY WHEN U KNOW ITS A COPY, DIDNT EXPECT FROM AAMIR KHAN.

GROW UP GUYZ, I THINK NO 1 IN BOLLYWOOD HAS A BRAIN TO THINK SOMETHING ORIGINAL.

THAT’S WHY I HATE WATCHIN THESE STUPID HINDI MOVIES, GOOD FOR THE RICKSHAW WALLAS ONLY.

  • great movie
great direction, mindblowing acting by both genelia n imran khan
    A MUST WATCH MOVIE
i have seen it 2 times wanna watch again

  • B.O. update: ‘J.T.Y.J.N.’ opens to almost 100% on Friday
    – By Taran Adarsh, July 11, 2008 – 18:03 IST
The much-delayed multi-starrer MEHBOOBA, as predicted by us, opened to a good response at single screens in the Hindi belt. However, expectedly, its opening at multiplexes was very poor… JAANE TU YA JAANE NA continues to reign supreme. The film entered into second week with fantastic collections, grossing almost 100% at several screens. What’s worth highlighting is that practically all multiplexes have increased the shows of the film in its second week – a fact highlighted in the ‘Biz Talk’ column on Thursday morning. Besides, the makers have opened approx. 100 more centres from this week. The first week nett is expected to be in the range of Rs. 20 cr. +. After deducting theatre rentals, it clearly indicates that the film has yielded profits for its producer/distributors from the first week itself… LOVE STORY 2050 continues to remain on the lower side. The second weekend has also opened to a lukewarm response.

    >>> SO PUT DIS THRU DAT THICK SKULL… BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE!!
