With the election dates nearing, it looks like the people of Chandigarh have an exciting few days ahead. With BJP choosing veteran Hindi film actress Kirron Kher to stand against AAP’s Gul Panag, the election nicknamed as battle of the dimples is certainly getting to be quite interesting.
Gul Panag who had recently joined AAP has said, ‘”I am here to stay in politics, and problems facing this country are corruption and communism.”
According to reports, Panag, native of Chandigarh had joined the AAP as she was not satisfied with what the mainstream parties had done for the country. She had launched her campaign immediately after being announced as a candidate for the seat.
Meanwhile, Kirron had on Tuesday started her campaign. However to her dismay, she was not given a warm welcome. According to reports, some protestors of BJP, not happy with her inclusion, had thrown eggs at her and her husband Anupam Kher when they reached the party’s office in Chandigarh. Reports also reveal that the car, the couple had come in from the airport, was blocked with a mob bearing black flags. The party workers had been gathered at the BJP office to protest her nomination. The chaos that followed suit was clamed down when six of the agitators where arrested.
When asked about the incident, Kirron said, “Everything will settle down soon. I am going to work for the welfare of people without thinking about the outcome of the elections.” Reports suggest that the versatile actor is planning on having open meetings to have people come to her directly.
With Congress bringing in former Railway Minister Pawan Bansal as its candidate in Chandigarh, the campaigning is heating up already.
