Let me start off by saying, Shahrukh Khan hasn’t really been at the top of his games since Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which released more than 3 and a half years ago.
- He has not delivered a single blockbuster since 2009.
- None of his films have crossed the 120 crore mark in the domestic market, despite all of his films (except My Name Is Khan) releasing during the Holiday season.
- Back in his prime, the quality of his films were way better than what it is today. Post Rab Ne.., none of his films have sustained at the box office for more than 2 or 3 weeks.
Let us analyze:
Shahrukh Khan Movies
My Name Is Khan (2010): This was probably the most awaited film of 2009 and many were expecting it to cross 100 crore, as Aamir Khan’s last two releases had done 116 crore (Ghajini) and 202 crores (3 Idiots). It took a good opening and was critically acclaimed too, in fact the Karan Johar film was one of the best reviewed movies of 2010. However, this film crashed in the second week and ended with lifetime collections of Rs 74 Crore. Even Akshay Kumar, who was going through a rough patch, was able to deliver a solid-hit when Housefull grossed 75 crore during the IPL season.
Verdict: HIT
Ra.One: Like most SRK movies, this too was one of the most awaited flicks of the year. Due to the sheer amount of money spent. the hype behind it and the 5 day extended Diwali weekend; the trade was expecting this to cross 200 crore. Ra One opened well, it’s second day after release was a record for the highest single day collections (surpassed later by Ek Tha Tiger). But unfortunately, the film crashed after a week due to mixed/negative word of mouth. This film DID NOT CROSS 120 CRORE if you exclude regional collections.
Verdict: Above Average to HIT (some say the film has lost several crores)
Don 2: SRK’s first Christmas release took a good opening, although the trade expected the opening to be a lot higher. The film sustained for 2 and half weeks, did well at multiplexes but was a non-starter at single screens. However, its overall collections was once again below expectations as the film collected Rs 112 crore.
Verdict: Hit
Jab Tak Hai Jaan: SRK, Katrina, Yash Chopra, A.R. Rahman — it could not have gotten bigger or better. But who would have expected that the collections after the initial weekend would be on the same level as Son Of Sardar, even though the Ajay Devgan starrer released on fewer screens? Like every other SRK film, this too got good reviews, but 106 (BOI) or 120 (official) whichever figure you take, it was still below the mark.
Verdict: HIT
Chennai Express: This year SRK takes Salman’s EID slot. But he has a bigger challenge on his hands, as Akshay Kumar’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Again is also slated to release on the same day (August 8th). If both films have the same number of screens, then OUATIM 2 might just take a better opening as it’s the sequel to one of 2010’s most loved films and has great recall value too.
That brings me to the big question – Is Shahrukh Khan the ‘numero uno superstar’ that he once was between 1995 – 2009? Is his star power on the wane?
Mediocre, overrated actor who has so far survived playing the same character in a bunch of samey romantic films
outclassed by salman khan in tere naam and ajay devgn in everything he does

Akshay or Ajay Cant Be Before SRK Due To Rowdy Rathore/Bol Baccha/SOS.
And Till Date Non Of Ajay’s Film Has Crossed SRK’s Movies In India.
You Should Make and Article That Whether Akshay/Ajay has Stardom Like SRK?? They Are Giving Joker(22), K786(Masala-68cr), Speacil26(65cr), Tezz(20cr), Rascals(37cr), Himmathwala(55cr), Dil Toh Baccha hai Ji(30cr).
When Akshay Gives 200 cr Worldwide Consistantly , and When Ajay Crosses SRK movies In India Then I Will Say SRK Is Loosing His Stardom.
To decrease SRK’s star power he will have to have one flop at least. All his movies have managed to earn the hit status, despite bad/mixed word of mouth or bad/mixed critics reviews. That’s what’s meant by star power.
Hrithik also has had not just one, but 2 flops in the recent past-Kites & Guzaarish. Kites had both bad word of mouth & bad reviews. But Hrithik’s stardom doesn’t seem to be reversing. This article is a pointless article. Just because a star hasn’t delivered a single blockbuster in 3 years doesn’t mean he has no star power. He’ll have to deliver 2 or 3 flops at a stretch to call he is losing his stardom.
I will only SEE REAL SALMANIA days when he comes with different scripts not masalas, Then I can say Salman is stronger than SRK. as of now Still SRK is my dream Actor/uncle actor whatever no one can beat him in acting. SIDE OFF all actors

SRK has been lucky as he has been working in good films which has been liked by the public. In India movies become hits not because of the actor, othewrise all SRK movies would have been hits. SRK is an overated actor. There are far better actors whi have been deprived of awards….true awards….not the stupid type like Filmfare, etc.

The problem with most of the srk production is that they aimed at profit overseas, but they forgot the foundation.
The foundation to hsi stardom was built in India, not overseas. Overseas only latched on to srk when he was more popular.
But, srk and his production team failed to see this, and went on to woo the new found territories, but the bigger and the most important was forgotton.
All his movies, barring Chak De, are glossed up movies to suit the overseas viewers.
When srk lost touch of the domestic market, he clinged on to overseas, but even that is now that huge as it was, and with his domestic market already down, it is a very rough time ahead for srk.
Star power means, a person who can make an average film, a blockbuster and not vice-versa. Same in 90s non of the SRK average film was made blockbuster by him.
Salman on the other hand made – Sanam Bewafa, Kurban, Judwa, Bandhan, etc hit only on his own shoulders.
Agar salman in filmon mein hota to saari flop ho jaati.Ghatiya blockbusters banakar bollywood ki quality khatam ho jayegi.Ra.One collected 58 crores in first 3 days proves that his popularity is intact.Masses didn’t understand his last 4 films.Who cares.
To all SRK fans:
Can you ignore the fact that Salman is the only superstar with 5 consecutive ATBB/ BBs in the 100 years history of Indian Cinema and for your kind information these were hits also in abroad.
Beside, can you ignore the fact that HAHK [inflation adjusted] is the biggest hit of the history of Indian Cinema.
Can you ignore the fact that he has given 5 ATBB.
Can you ignore the fact that from 2nd highest to 5th highest world wide grossing films, he starred them all.
Can you ignore the fact that his film has collected 33 crores [approx, and also only in India] in a single day.
Every actor time comes Srk is no different slowly but surely his time has come, in 3-4 years even his loyal fans will start realising it.
Is Shahrukh Khan’s star power on the wane? Superb article but there is just one mistake that there is a question mark “?” after wane and “Is” before Shahrukh.

PS I have to admit Kateena looked HOT in the video but dont you dare be hypocritical against Salman and forget about srks own track record of dancing with Semi nude dancers before categorically claiming his movies are directed at family audiences. @Indicine FYI the answer to the question in the article is that ‘Yes absolutely 100% sure and no need to use any lifelines’ because Srks ‘Star’ is definitely on the wane. If you dont believe me then realise that its been several weeks since this ID ‘star’ has been on here or previous srk related articles to praise King Srk…! That clearly shows that even Srks biggest joker fan ‘star’ is getting weary of reading news on Srk and has now too abandoned the ‘Titanic’ ship known as ‘Srkians’ and is now a devotee of Shreyas Talpade. So sad to see srkians losing all hope and on the sly are abandoning their posts in Srks abandoned Kingdom in the fortress of India. :-P

@rizwan,akshays star power is much higher than sharukh,because akshay is a high quality entertainer.akkis movies gone to less collection because he done 5 filims in a year and all are non holiday openers.if srk or salman do like that,their filims gone to flops.in 1997 time srk is no 1 superstar but his 3 or 4 filims are flped in each year.salman gets 4 flops in every year before 2009.if srk or aamir or sallu do 5 filims in an year,they can never make total 400 crore collection in an year,but akshay did that in previos year.dar srk fans,the real fact is sallu infirst position and akki in second position in bollywood.

Srk has no film after paheli. He did it after rajesh kahanna. And for ouatim2 is class film and ce is mass film so it is clear that ce get better opening. Rohit shetty film v/s aki films remember aki always lost in his golden time. And now its time aki bad phase whoes last 3 films underperformd and his critically and good film s26 can’t cross 70cr. Thats the reason srk is now 2nd place after salman and before 2008 srk is then 1st place.
Boi give us both india’s collection and overseas collection. But salman fans jst take india’s collection and compare. Salman fans r biggest culprit here. when salman’s films stop doing well in most part of india, dat time salman fans will highlight some cities collection were salman films doing well and start comparing with srk movies collection in tht particular city.
