The Tamil / Telugu version of Shankar’s I released in theatres on Pongal (14th January), the Hindi version of the Vikram film released on select screens on Thursday (paid previews) and got a wider release on around 1700 screens on Friday.
The Hindi version has collected Rs 4.9 crore in 2 days including paid previews. Breakdown below of the official figures from the distributors. (Note: collections of Hindi version only, Tamil version also released in North India, Mumbai and other parts of the country)
- Thursday – 25 lakhs (Paid previews)
- Friday – 2.1 cr
- Saturday – 2.3 cr
- Total – Rs 4.9 cr
The Tamil version has created history at the box office. In Tamilnadu, I opened phenomenally well and has sustained reasonably well too. In Kerala, I released in 225 theatres and has smashed records of local Malayalam movies. The film was houseful in cities like Trivandrum and Kochi on Day 1 and has sustained well on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Collections of the Tamil version below.

The Telugu version opened to outstanding numbers, but reports from Andhra/Nizam aren’t great. The business of the film has begun to drop quite considerably Friday onwards.

good to see regional movies are progressing and giving tough compition to Bollywood .72cr in most probably 25-30% part of India in just 4 days its look 150cr for Bollywood .
Vikram is canvas and Shankar is painter and he done tremondus job in terms of creativity and thoughts .
mostly in last 2-3 year regional cinemas are doing tremendous work in terms of Art and Collection they are not hesitate to do 100cr film.
Bollywood should concentration on good scripts and arts collection will automatically generated. Like Marathi movies also performing best but they dosent got more exposure due to 2 big industry in Maharashtra the film industry got sandwiched .
just think if shakar does a movie with salman….with salman the biggest commersial star and shankar blockbuster director..with strong concept like shivaji…. it will rock whole india from south to north… 400cr nt imppossible….bettr to do movie with shankar than sohail.. salman bhai….. and its still possible as aamir is on board for ROBOT 2… they can make hollywood level movie with aamir as he garentees of recovery of money…wat u think friends…

So the first day collection of ‘I’=9.5 + 11.8 + 2.1 =23.4 crore..
4 days collection 72.5 crore..
Which is still a dream collection for so called “Super stars” like Akshay and AD(without rohit) even with more number of screens…

@Indicine, Update ‘I’ movie 5 days boxoffice is ?102.4 crores gross.
After 5 days: ‘I’ collections:
Hindi – 7cr.+
Tamil – 50cr. approx
Telugu – 31cr. approx.
Overseas – Around 10-12 cr.
So, it has crossed 100 crores gross while Nett would be around 90cr. till now since, the movie released in Hindi language would not be applicable for tax-free as it is the case with the movie in all southern states! Phenomenal. It should do close to 180-200cr. in the lifetime.
@arjun kapoor: Good that you are! Now if I may tell you the in SOuth, most of the films are awarded ‘U’ certificate due to which they are exempted of entertainment taxes. Hence, these kind of collections.

@arjunkapoor: Not sure about Vikramarkadu if it had erotic scenes? :O But if I believe, it was awarded a U/A. But if the films are first received a U/A or an A (A is very unlikely in any south indian language film), they appeal further and get a U certificate, so that their taxes could be exempted.

I was a great disappointment for sure.. dont know weather these people really seen the movie as they say film is so good?? in theater everyone lost their cool and irritating screenplay and silly storyline.
the hardwork by vikram and his performance as well as pc sriram’s camera were great plus points but shankar the only man responsible for the disappoinmt. because of the hype and expectations created artificially, in the fesitive holidays with majority of tickets booked in advance, these figures made possible. It ‘ll drastically come down from monday onwards.. take my words

After watching “I” again I have become fan of Vikram . I had seen his Hindi dubbed movie Aparichit and he was amazing in that movie. but after watching ‘I’ , I would say that he is far far better then any other Bollywood actors in recent time even better then Amir Khan. I would wish to see him doing Bollywood films soon..

In my life i watched many tamil films but among them I is the one of the best movie.I liked the love story of the film where the acting of both acters is excellent(mainly vikram’s acting is awesome)….
