I Box Office Collections: Vikram – Shankar film

The Hindi version of Vikram starrer ‘I’ has collected Rs 2.1 crore on its opening day at the domestic box office (including paid previews on Thursday). The film has done well in the Mumbai circuit, especially in Mumbai city where the response was the best ever for a dubbed south Indian film.

Shankar I Box Office Collections

In South Indian states like Karnataka and Kerala, the Tamil version of the film has collected more than the Hindi version. In the state of Andhra Pradesh, I opened to a phenomenal response on Wednesday (Pongal release) but business started to dip on Friday.

In Kerala, Shankar’s I has set box office records on both Day 1 and Day 2. Tamilnadu was outstanding too, but there are reports of the film not meeting the high pre-release expectations. As per reliable trade sources, I has collected around Rs 27 crore (gross) in its first 3 days in Tamilnadu. In Kerala, the 3-day business is around Rs 7.4 crore (gross).

  • @gj007: Lucia is a kannada film. You have read correctly. It’s one of the greater films in the past few years. The movie is now being remade and ready to be released next week in Tamil with Siddharth (yes, the RDB/chashme bhaddur one) in the lead. Looks interesting.

  • I have watched “I” yesterday!

    What’s good?
    1.Vikram’s great performance.
    2. The Brilliant Cinematography.
    3. The theme.
    4. Some lovely sequences in the plot.

    What’s not so good?
    1. Plot was lengthy, yet predictable.
    2. A few action scenes.
    3. Editing could have been sharper.
    Rating: a strict 2.5/5 or a generous 3/5

so, I is ambitious and predictable. Over all A nice one. But I had expected more.

  • @all: Its good finally. some of you guys have talked about the South Industry, mainly about Kollywood. We should like always follow the happenings in regional cinemas apart from the Bollywood films.

Yes, Vijay and Ajith are the closest compatriots for the past 20 years now. Though, this rivalry thing between their fans has begun just 6-7 years back. No doubt, they two are the biggest followed stars in Tamil Nadu apart from Rajini Sir and Kamal Sir. Suriya has always been among the Top3 after Vijay and Ajith by his choice of films, though he only does commercial films. Now, Vikram on the other hand – everybody knows how dedicated, hardworking this guy is right from his start i.e SETHU was his first film in which he won the National Award . PS: TERE NAAM was this ‘SETHU’. Though, Vikram may not command a huge mass following ala Vijay or Ajith or Suriya, the audiences know that his films will always have a strong and impactful performance from him. ‘I’ is a pure example of such. I am seeing it tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

  • @Shaggy ,i am happy somebody talking about a malayalam movie here. Proud being a mallu here.

Yaa, drishyam was a nice movie and it is remaking to Tamil now(Papanasham-Kamalhasan) after that telugu and kannada…

    a must watch movie..

  • i dnt knw abt south industry. bt once i watched meri jung one man army den i lyk Nagarjuna. where he belongs to Tamil Or Telugu? wt abt his rank? reply

  • For me as a shankar sir fan i is above-average film… Shankar sir’s mudhalvan, aparajit, gentlemen, indian all films had a superb screenplay but in i screenplay is quite predictable… And poor content…

  • Heard that Mr Boney Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor are in talks to remake this super hit film and they want the movie for their son but only a supporting role.
I know it’s a rumor but it does make a sense since Arjun Kapoor is second supporting role, may be Upton Patel’s role?? who knows.
Anyway let’s wait the officially announcement. :)

  • @shaggy

Heard a lot about it. I don’t remember if I have seen it. Currently my joint favorites are Schindler’s list and One flew over the cuckoo’s nest

  • @Gj007.. you should watch two Kannada movies..

Lucia — outstanding movie.. you will love the ending.
Ulidavaru Kandanthe (as seen by those who are alive) — a film on perspective.. with superb performances. Written, directed and starring Rakshit Shetty. A very different film on local culture.. do watch both when you get time.

  • @Neeraj

For sure! I like such films. Interesting concept.

    @Irfaan

    Yes it’s a kannada film.

I’m grateful to Indicine readers for giving a list of great films. Don’t know when I’ll watch it, but I will make sure I watch it some day :)

  • @sheheer ya 1st time I watched Malayalam movie I heard lot about mohanlal too… he is also Big star in south
I heard lot about drishyam… so I watched
drishyam will remake in Hindi too…. ajay devgn playing that role….
@gj007 shawshank redemption was released in 1994 if u get time watch this movie….
yes I will definitely watch lucia now….
    @vignesh I’m huge fan of ajith Kumar…. can’t wait for thala next….
I watched his billa, arrambham, mankatha, veeram….all r good movies..

  • @ aashu nagarjuna is a telugu superstar , he has worked in some bollywood films like khuda gawah , loc- kargil etc.

  • @shaggy: Ajith’s film always has a huge pre-release buzz. And his next, Yennai Arinthaal which comes after two weeks is his most highly anticipated ever. The songs are superb. The film looks slick and Ajith looks dashing as ever. Though, I did not like his last couple movies both Arrambam and Veeram. I highly look forward for this film. And you know, Suriya was supposed to do this film, which Ajith grasped ;)

  • @Vignesh you are absolutely right.I was watching Aambala in a nearby theatre(since I couldn’t get I’s tickets) and when they showed Yennai Arinthaal trailer the entire audience went berserk. They were whistling, dancing and when there was an error because of which the the trailer paused the crowd even threatened that they won’t allow the screening of movie unless they resume the trailer

  • @challa: Yeah bro. I completely understand your feeling at that time. People down south are too much crazy for their favorite actors. And the kind of response Ajith and Vijay’s fans provide is magnanimous for these two stars. I have not seen this kind of such support for bollywood top guns. I mean by the trailers in between the movies in theaters, I have never seen people shouting, whistling and going berzerk during such times unlike you will find such things when you see a Vijay/Ajith/Dhanush/Suriya’s trailers!

  • @Vignesh Somehow I have got used to it since I have watched majority of Rajni’s movies in theatres and the reaction of the crowd when the letters “SUPERSTAR” appear on screen can’t be described

  • Vikram is one of the best actors in the country today, but he’s not as big as Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Vijay, Ajith etc, otherwise it would have collected a bit more. Only Kamal Hassan can challenge him out of those when it comes to acting though.

  • @challa: True that! I myself have been doing it for the last 6 years or so when I see Rajini sir’s film here in Delhi. Even though there is no one supporting me in shouting over here, it gives me immense pleasure describing it even :)

  • @Vignesh…lol.I too whistle and shout during Rajni Sir’s entry. In fact when I watched lingaa in a premium multiplex it was a horrible experience since it was the first time there was nobody to accompany me D:

  • plz dont call the movie as shankers I…name it as vikrams I…vikram proved that he is the best actor in tamil….vikram I will be a huge hit coz vijay and ajith fans supports vikram and promoting his movies

  • @gaurav 3:41pm

Its recommended by alot of my friends but some say watch the tamil remake version when it releases but I dont speak tamil so for you and me the original version is best choice but Only watch ‘lucia’ with subtitles- the dub version online was pretty awful when I had a sneak peak IMO- I watch south movies with good subtitles that are in sync with the action so any ideas from users on where to get such a good copy would be appreciated…!
