Hrithik Roshan and Imtiaz Ali to work together!

Arguably the two best talents in the industry are all set to come together and the producer who has managed to sign the director and the superstar is none other than Housefull producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

According to Mumbai Mirror, Sajid Nadiadwala has signed Hrithik Roshan and Imtiaz Ali (director of Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal) for his next – a drama film with plenty of emotions. The source says “Sajid Nadiadwala is the biggest producer in Bollywood today. After Housefull, he will be making the Hindi remake of South superhit Kick starring Salman Khan. His mega venture with Hrithik and Imtiaz follows Kick. Incidentally, Sajid had signed Imtiaz immediately after Jab We Met and they have been planning the film for four years. Now, Hrithik has given the go ahead and the film will be the most expensive Bollywood production. The budget will be over Rs 100 crore as it’s a genre that has never been attempted before. It is a drama-based film and has its emotional moments. It will start as soon as Imtiaz is done with his film Rockstar with Ranbir and in all likelihood, the film will go on the floors in January-February next year.”

Hrithik Roshan, according to the local daily, has confirmed the news.

  • i dont knw how many films will this guy imitiaz ali do . earlier he was planning to do a movie wioth AKKI for eros as well, mayb becoz of AKKI’s bad year he drpped that idea . the less work he do better it is becoz his work is deteriorating, socha na tha and jab we met were masterpieces but love aaj kal was simply bakwaas compared to the earlier work of imtiaz ali

  • Its nice to see hrithik in sajid’s film KICK but i would like to see ILEANA with hrithi. So plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Manish, Hrithik won’t agree to be a part of any film unless the script is VERY convincing. He has so many films in hand right now, just to name a few – Guzaarish, Zoya Akthar’s next, a film with Vishal Bharadwaj, Shekhar Kapur’s Paani..

This is not 100% confirmed news. Imtiaz Ali always wanted to work with Hrithik after Socha Na Tha and even after Jab We Met, things didn’t work out then. But now they are in talks, if Hrithik agrees to do the film, it should go on floors after he’s done with Zoya Akhtar’s film..

  • @indicine: ya u r right , he stopped doing infact multiple movies to avoid the debacles he suffered between kaho na pyar hai and i think koi mil gaya .
only AKKI nd Salman Khan can do 3-4 movies an year and still loved and getting good openings continuosly.

good to see Indicine agreeing wid me on Love aaj Kal being disappointing . i think he took an interesting concept but failed to make it gripping emotionally except in few parts and Love aaj kal being a serious romantic movies shd ought to have an emotinally gripping screenplay , but he missed out.

@Indicine: see the irony socha na tha probably the best work of imitiaz ali fizzled out and his worst work so far got superhit ;)

    • Socha Na Tha failed because it was promoted poorly by the Deol’s (who produced the film). Also its release was delayed and the star cast wasn’t too exciting for the audience. The film did very well after it was released on DVD.

Disagree that only Akki and Salman can do 3 – 4 movies and still get good openings. If SRK – Aamir or Hrithik do three films a year, every film of theirs will still get good openings.. but these stars are all about quality than quantity (although arguable when it comes to SRK).. Businesswise, you wont get a Tasveer or Main Aur Mrs Khanna / Yuvraaj from any of these stars.. Just our opnion though, yours might be different :)

Also its much more riskier to do one film than 3 ‘commercially safe’ films every year. The stakes are much higher. For example.. Even if Kites does the same business as Housefull or Wanted it will be considered a FLOP. Kites will have to the kinda business that two or three Akki movies did last year to be considered a success!!!

  • @ Indicine: the vishal bhardwaj project i think is saat khoon maaf , i think it will be a cameo or extended guest appearance not a full fledged role???? am i right????

@ Indicine : what abt Raj kumar santoshi project wid AKKI that u reported ?? has it been stalled????? i dont think AKKI will say no to raj kumar santoshi as he hold him in high repute

@ Indicine: I want to ask one more thing what do u think about Aankhein(2002) and Jaan-e man. i feel they were very refreshing change at the time of their release in terms of Script and direction respectively but ppl feel dat they were badly directed . i want to know ur opinion as somebody having technical knowledge of movies

@ Indicine: sorry for bombarding with so many question ;) i love talking abt bollywood , althouh as a movie viewer i knw bollywood stanmds no where in comparison to hollywood in terms of script and techinicalities but still love bollywood very much and love to talk abt it

    • No, its not Saat Khoon Maaf.. They were planning a remake of ‘The Departed’.. It will be a full fledged lead role..

Well, the problem with Akki is his dates.. He has too many films lined up for release. Yes, would be a welcome change to see him in a non-comic avatar. Its been a over-dose of comedy from him and there seems to be no respite..

Answered before I guess.. Aankhein was decent (3 stars).. Jaan-e-mann was stretched too long although technically very strong (2.5).

Pleasure answering your questions, keep them coming :)

  • Biggest Hit Love Aajkal according to Manin and Indicine is not good like Jab We Met and Socha Na Tha.
What is wrong with u guys?
Jab We Met and Love Aajkal were head to head each others.
Socha Na Tha was just an average movie.

  • @nauman we are talkinh quality wise not business terms , it(socha na tha) is considered as the best work by imtiaz ali atleast in india

  • @indicine: agreed with most of your points except one where u said u dont expect tasveer or main or mrs khanna from SRK or Hrithik , if u remember when they used to do 2-3 movies , they still had swades, paheli, mujhse dosti karogi, fiza which bombed badly so u can see MORE EXPOSURE is RISKIER THAN SELECTIVE OR 1 MOVIE AN YEAR STRATEGY. theses guys are here for years so wont lose fans even if they gave a flop in an year so more exposure is riskier

even i dont find quality in SRK movies , they are just same , because he release them wid gaps , it works and also critics have always been kind to give them good star ratings.

Aamir is league a part SRK, Salman,AKKI are no where near him, these 3 are commercial stars while aamir is in real terms an actor and Hrithik is following his footstep. for aamir iam talking in terms of Quality but earlier he never used to promote his movies so much like SRK but he did it twice and the results or records are still there unbroken and untouched. so i wd say even business wise.

Hey , i thinlk this approach of 1 movie an year or lesser movie has come from Dilip Kuma?? am i right???

PPL expect quality from Aamir and to an extent from Hrithik as well but not with SRK, AKKI and salman . these 3 are watched for pure entertainment.

anyways as u said its just an opinion , i put it across wid facts from past :)

    • Manish, lots of good points you make there. But don’t really agree with all of them :)

First of all it doesn’t matter who started this approach of 1 movie a year. What matters is, how good a movie is and how it performs at the box office. Also, commercially entertaining film need not necessarily be low on quality. 3 Idiots is a great example.. It was entertaining, had mass-appeal and was super successful commercially too..

Now about which approach is riskier, its still very much debatable. SRK’s Swades is still believed to be one of his best works.. Hrithik’s bad patch with bad films was not because of the numbers of films, but because of wrong decisions. He had signed most of those films before Kaho Na Pyaar Hai released. Suddenly after his new gained super stardom, the directors re-wrote his character to give him more screen-space and cash-in on his super success.. The result was obviously bad films. Hrithik has many films for release in the next 2 years.. Around 2 releases every year.. He had 2 releases in 2006 too, both were record breaking, by far the biggest hits of those years..

Now the reason why we say one release a year is more riskier is because.. Akshay Kumar had five releases last year, none of them did well.. but now with Housefull being the success that it is, his last few disappointments were quickly forgotten.. Salman had how many? Something like 10 flops in a row? Wanted released, all his flops were history.. But can someone like Hrithik or Aamir or SRK afford 4 flops or even two? It would be the end of their careers! MNIK did 70 crores in India, it is still considered a disappointment.. Forget the price it was sold at.. The fact remains.. it still ‘earned’ more money than any Akshay or Salman film.. Didnt it?

Still believe one film per year is riskier than four films a year.. With the later, its much easier to bounce back. :)

  • The only good thing abt LAK was the music – agree Manish, the story was indeed ‘bakwaas’!! But I guess that’s not entirely the Director’s fault (I think??). Anyway, wish him luck with the forthcoming movies.

Agree with u abt Aamir – he is in a league of his own! For me personally, Aamir is THE BEST (past and present). It is sad (for us fans) that he opted for single movies per year.

    • Rooksana, not really sad that he opted for one movie a year. Movie making is a long process and since Aamir is involved in every aspect of film making, right from perfecting the script to pre-production to filming to the post-production and promotions.. Everything takes time, but the results are for all to see. One release a year, but its always worth the wait :)

  • @rooksana: u can undersatnd that being an AKKi fan , i still love aamir movies. infact , ghulam , jo jeeta wohi sikander, 3 idiots, dil chahta hai are my personal favourites.

there are so many fans of other actors who just love Aamir that shows how much trust he enjoys in india

  • @ INDICINE : Iam just loving this deabte wid u :)

@Indicine: first of all if one is doing one movie an year , the anticipation for any big stars movie wd be great , so flop seems out of question untill or unless it is unreasonably priced , even if the product is bad ppl will catch it becoz they get to see their big star after a big gap of time , but if one or two movie of AKKI or Salman doesnt work , ppl will not go for third movie, except die hard fans, if it gets bad review . U said it is easier to bounce back but it is even easier to go down the pitt as Salman has gone , he has very few hits in last decade or so .
Let Hrithik do 2 films an year continuosly for 2-3 years u’ll see the business of his movies go down surely.

I cant prove that becoz i cant change the past but had it been not for the news channel promoting MNIk all day long wid celebrities and politicians coming on news channel for entire day and asking ppl to watch the movie it wd have wrapped under 60 crore. I personlly feel it was most overhyped movie . Khuda kay liye is the best movie on terrorism , followed by New york

Who says Akki’s flop have been forgotton, they still are fresh in mind of evryone even after Housefull success. If u do 3-4 movies an year how many genre can u do ??? then ppl wd say u r repeating urself . Didnt SRK repeated himself by doing romantic movies continuosly for years but the difference was that he did just 1-2 movies an year( P.S. Even i want to see AkKi in different avtaars now, he is really versatile and is wasting his talent by doing same type of movies again and again :) )

u urself said AKKi was a B class Actor in 1990’s and not even in first 10-12. he had 2 or 3 vary bad years i think 1997,98 where every movie of his bombed that was the big reason for him being called as b class actor . did u remeber , Khiladi , Khiladiyon ka khiladi which was 2nd highest grosser in the year which it released, sabse bada khiladi , yeh dillagi and few more . u dont say that he is a B class actor becoz he was inconsistent but becoz he Had those 2-3 bad years that made media forget the good ones done by him . his films being hit was a great stuff in !990s when ppl liked only romantic and family dramas, he did Action .(i knw sunny also did action but sunny was an established actor by then)

1 0r 2 flops in an year in 2 year wont affect such big stars that much , because ppl will say ek do hi movies to nahi chali and if he do 3rd bad film in a row he must introspect becoz even after being so choosy abt scripts one chooses 3 bad script for 3 consecutive years that means he lack some thing or is making mistake by not catching the nerve of audience

  • i can give u instances of media ‘s biased ness towards AKKi and also other stars who compete wid SRK.
Why BOI took fox’s number for MNIK later on while their earlier figures were different and lower and now why are they not taking Eros’s Official figure for housefull which are somewhere around 66-67 crore for 2 weeks whereas they are taking Fox’s official figures of MNIk and are saying that Housfull wont reach 73 crore earned by MNIk . comapre when u take official figures and i think Housefull is gonna beat MNIk easily.

At BOI, I can show u pages where the verdict for AKKi and AAmir’s movie have been lowered and SRK’s movie verdict has been improved to show he is the only one King of bollywood and worthy heir of BIG B

however the truth is different BIG B is legend and nobody is near to him in today’s scenario. his films hit the bulls eye without resorting to Cheap publicity gimmicks and using media to get his films to these status . .

Sorry , u specifically pin pointed SRK so i said all this , i love evry big actor and even some new ones but still dont like Srk that much . i liked his swades, DDLJ and chak de , rest all were nothing great

  • Loved this discussion so far . u putting ur points , memine . this is what so far is called healthy discussion . sure we both have different opiniosn but it surely increases our (or mayb just mine ;)) knowledge abt any field :)
