Q. How many Super Hits / Blockbusters does Hrithik have without Rakesh Roshan - Goutam

A. Hrithik Roshan has played the lead in 20 films so far in his career, out of which his father has directed four films – Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (Blockbuster), Koi Mil Gaya (Super Hit), Krrish (Blockbuster) and Krrish 3 (All Time Blockbuster). From the remaining 16 films that he acted outside the Filmkraft banner / Rakesh Roshan’s direction, 2 super hits (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Agneepath) and 2 blockbusters (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Dhoom 2). Apart from that Jodhaa Akbar can be put in the ‘Super Hit’ category as it managed ‘Super Hit’ business in all territories where it got a full-fledged release. The film was banned in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand. This affected the business of the film in major circuits, outside which it did Super Hit business.

Q. What are your expectations from ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ after watching the trailers and songs? Will this concept work in today’s modern cinema? – Khaled

A. One thing is for sure – Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will take a record opening on the day after Diwali puja, which also happens to be the best day for film business. The rest would depend on content. The only concern is if the youth will come out in big numbers to watch the film. PRDP is not the sort of film they like to watch and the response from this section of audience (youngsters / college going students) has been mixed. But the family audience, that do not come watch films, are likely to come out in big numbers. Sooraj Barjatya films do have a strong fan-following all across India, whether it is cities, towns or even villages. A film like Vivaah was a record grosser in Bihar. Plus the added factor of Salman and Sooraj reuniting after 15 years. All this will ensure a massive opening, but if the film does indeed have limited youth appeal, business will be affected in the long run.

Q. Why Aamir Khan has less fans in social networking site? But when his movie release huge number of people coming to see his movie, aren’t they Aamir fans? – Rehaan

A. Aamir has a huge fan-following both on social media – 15 million plus fans on Facebook and the third most followed Bollywood actor on Twitter. Having fans doesn’t really mean they have to fight it out or argue with other fan bases, or retweet / actively promote his films on social media. Honestly, at the end of the day, perception on social media doesn’t make any difference at the box office. The only social media tweets / Facebook posts that matter is from the general public after the release of a film – which in other words, is social media word-of-mouth. The big advantage that Aamir has, which most actors can only dream of but never achieve, is the blind trust that the audience has in his films. They don’t just come to watch Aamir on the big screen, but also come for a satisfying movie experience. This inspires the actor himself to work harder on his films, give the audience something different with each new film – which is evident from the way he has been working on his next film ‘Dangal’. Almost an year of his life dedicated to just getting in shape, working on the script and getting the casting right. In the same period, quite a few actors would have completed 2 / 4 films. Such half-hearted attempts can disappoint the audience, leading to a steady decrease in footfalls for their films in theatres.
