Akshay Kumar has four 100 crore grossers in his career (Check out: Actors with most 100 crore grossers) and his latest release ‘Housefull 3’ has every chance of becoming his 5th.
While the film is unlikely to become the highest grosser of his career (Rowdy Rathore – 134 crore), it’ll be interesting to see if Housefull 3 can beat Holiday and Housefull 2.
Akshay has been fairly consistent at the box office, but his big films – even with favourable release periods like Independence Day (Brothers, OUATIMD) and Post IPL (Holiday, Housefull 3) – have failed to take it to the next level like Rowdy Rathore did in 2012.
Adjusting for inflating and rise in the number of multiplexes, Rowdy Rathore’s 134 crore is probably worth 160 crore or more if it happened to release in 2016 (although the genre – Masala and south remake – is not as hot as it was back in 2012).
Rowdy Rathore was big in every way – the open was outstanding (exceeded expectations), the trend was excellent and the film was a huge grosser – even though it released 2 months after Housefull 2 – rubbishing the theory of back-to-back releases affecting business.
That biggie, which pushes the limit of non-festive releases, is something that Akshay has failed to achieve with all his subsequent releases. Housefull 3 was expected to be that big film and there is still a chance, but it looks difficult at this point in time.

Airlift is the best Akshay Kumar film I have ever seen!!! It is better than Special 26 and particularly Baby, Much Much better than Holiday and infinite times better than Housefull3.

Idiot HNY PRDP Dilwale had much bigger and bankable superstars who can draw crowds on these holidays. Content were let down but imagine them having a content like Airlift expect nothing more than 300-400 cr. Airlift on the other hand even if it was released on Diwali the highest it could have had would be 140 cr. So that’s the difference between the Khans and kumar. Kumar has the worst track record among the countries leading superstars. Another sour grapes for you is that Holiday releases will always be far more superior and worth mentioning thann any non holiday release. Even underperformed Dilwale Jai ho bang bang are more mentioned in articles than a Yjhd or twm returns.
I still feel next 5 years and I support it .
Salman should be 1st choice Eid release
Aamir 1st choice Xmas release
Srk and Ajay 1st choice Diwali
Hrithik 1st choice Independence day but can clash with any of Aamir Salman Srk Aj movies any given time.

Haters barking forget hf 3 has done tremendous business overseas so verdict ultimately helped hf 3 to get a better classification, as indicine ready mention budget is 92 cr and ww share will probably touch 85 to 90 cr which already doubles distributors money who purchased the film with additional income sources which gives strong roi to hf3. Jai ho was a flop because distributors paid a lot of money and it did horrendous business ww.

Now a days, people are tired of these typical deshi masalas..
And now a days, those films which get highly poor ratings from critics, usually suffer from more difficulties.. Remember Action Jackson? Rawdy Rathore’s reviews were slightly ahead of/on par with Action Jackson.. If Rawdy Rathore had released in today’s time, it would have trolled all over the social media and it would have been considered as outdated as well..
