Holiday Box Office Opening

Akshay Kumar’s Holiday has taken a shockingly poor start at the domestic box office, as the morning shows at most centres (both single-screens and multiplexes) opened to occupancy of less than 30%. A few centres in Gujarat and Delhi/UP have taken a decent start, but not close to as good as other ‘Post-IPL’ releases in the last few years

Holiday was the first big-budget release after Yash Raj Films’ Gunday (Feb 13) and the second film featuring an established superstar after Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (Jan 24). While the promotions were low-key throughout, three other factors could have resulted in an opening as poor as this – one, the theatrical trailer didn’t generate enough buzz, two, none of the songs in the music album gained popularity and three, the title of the film didn’t excite the mass-audience (Akshay’s strong fan base).

Occupancy for the morning shows — Mumbai city opened to around 25-30%, Bangalore was poor at 20-25%, Ahmedabad was better at 35%, Mangalore was extremely poor at 20%, Pune was around 25-30%.

Unless there is a huge turnaround as the day progresses, Holiday is likely to collect less than 10 crore on its opening day and would rely almost entirely on word-of-mouth publicity to recover costs.

Moving towards the more positive side of things, the reports from the first few shows are good. So the film could pick up towards the end of the day.

  • Oh dear oh dear Houstone we have a problem…,! Seems like alot off Akkians have gone on Holiday rather than waste their money watching a terror plot movie shockingly titled as Holiday this weekend…!

Wrong title to begin with n end result is apparent for all to see. Its Entertainment looks like Housefull 3 so major chunk of audience may give that a miss altogether or wait for WOM/ Critics Review before splashing any money on tickets.

Poor script selection from Akki is costing him dearly at the ticket windows.

  • Reports emerging from Paglapur, Chennai, Kolkata n Bakrapur to name afew places are suggesting that Lungiwalas are visiting theatres only to see hoardings with the word HOLIDAY before turning around n leaving, they’re wrongly believing the Theatre is Closed due to staff being on HOLIDAY…!!!

This explains low to no opening in these places…!

  • Akshay no dout is a versatile actor.his holiday is one of d best movies.no matter whats d 1day collection. Talent does not need ciunting of money . Best acting, action scenes, and dance part will majke it abig hit.all d best akshay.

  • Reasons for low opening are pretty simple..
After giving us great movies like HF2, OMG, S26..Akki lost it big time with craps like K786, OUTIMD, Boss..this is the reason why people lost faith in Akshay!!!

Also compared to Khans, HR or even RK..Akki movies doesn’t generate the same kind of curiosity like the above mentioned actors!!!

One more reason was that this movie wasn’t promoted well enough!!! Music can’t be blamed as it was better than Jai Ho, K3 and D3..

Also the biggest of all..Overexposure of Akki movies..Akki should come with only 2 movies per year..this will also prevent overexposure and might fetch good openings in the future.. :)
Also I hope Holiday becomes like NM which also didn’t get a great opening but still went on to be a big hit!!! :)
