Akshay Kumar’s Holiday has taken a shockingly poor start at the domestic box office, as the morning shows at most centres (both single-screens and multiplexes) opened to occupancy of less than 30%. A few centres in Gujarat and Delhi/UP have taken a decent start, but not close to as good as other ‘Post-IPL’ releases in the last few years
Holiday was the first big-budget release after Yash Raj Films’ Gunday (Feb 13) and the second film featuring an established superstar after Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (Jan 24). While the promotions were low-key throughout, three other factors could have resulted in an opening as poor as this – one, the theatrical trailer didn’t generate enough buzz, two, none of the songs in the music album gained popularity and three, the title of the film didn’t excite the mass-audience (Akshay’s strong fan base).
Occupancy for the morning shows — Mumbai city opened to around 25-30%, Bangalore was poor at 20-25%, Ahmedabad was better at 35%, Mangalore was extremely poor at 20%, Pune was around 25-30%.
Unless there is a huge turnaround as the day progresses, Holiday is likely to collect less than 10 crore on its opening day and would rely almost entirely on word-of-mouth publicity to recover costs.
Moving towards the more positive side of things, the reports from the first few shows are good. So the film could pick up towards the end of the day.
It will raise the questions about Akshay’s stardom. Is he still a superstar or not?
I blame promos are really poor and the songs are so boring. There is no excitement at all about this movie..even if the movie is good but dent have done already. We are now fed up with south remakes. Bring us something new even small budget movie like Queen is better.
Reviews are gold and film will surely pick up in the evening. First day will be 12-13 crores and can reach 15 crore.

promotions were very less thats why opening is low. overseas opening is US and UAE is rocking. movie will pick up in india in the weekend.

Akki does movies for money not fans. Sad but truth it all business… Akki makes 4 films a year each of 35-50 cr budget… On an average his movies colect 70 cr. Overseas is the game changer here.. It is from where the real profit comes for a akki starer!! While SRK makes movies for his n the other two try to prove they’re better than SRK… One has failed. The other will also fail miserably

Da Morning shows does very well,, itz da noon and da aftrnoon shows datz shows dip., and again if da movie is accepted dan it shows upward trend 4rm da evening shows… But here da opening of da movie is too low considering it a Akki Starrer,, dat 2 released in one of best period of bollywood… Evn though fingers crossed., WOM shud be gud as reviews from both Critics and Ist show audience r encouraging…. i desperately want dis movie 2 work 4r AKSHAY

I knew this would happen. this is the same case like Jai Ho. the trailer didn’t make much impact, the songs didn’t click but the positive thing is that Holiday’s release timing is better than Jai Ho. I believe it will grow cause the W.O.M is superb. i think the weekend will be around 42-45 crores.
I hope that its first day collections are not lower than Heropanti.
Its really disappointing that even after 8 months of wait akki holiday started to such a debacle.
Akki should reinvent himself by doing some sensible movies rather than southern remakes.
If Holiday starred Tiger Shroff it would open better.

where are akshay fans. all these past days they saying wait for holiday wait for holiday, hurricane is coming, boxoffice records will be shattered, 300 crores, akki is baap of khans blah blah blah. well now the wait is over. Wat happened??? u akki fans live in a world of illusion. u think if khans can collect record breaking collections then so can akki. but bhai u need superstardom for such collection n akki does not have it. so be realistic n stop comparing him with the khans.
same case as Jai Ho. thanda trailer, uninspiring music, bakwaas supporting cast. but Still JAI HO managed 17.60 crs on the first day. let’s see how much Holiday collects today!!
if holiday was not promoted well whose fault is it? is not akshay at fault. why didn’t he promote his film. did anyone stop him promoting his film. he has got the best release date so he can’t complain on release date either. solo release, open weeks, summer vacations, post ipl. and if the promos didn’t create any buzz it means the people didn’t like the promo and saw nothing interesting or worth watching. if the film is bad the promo will never look good as simple as that.
Akshay & Imraan khan damaged their career by doing OUATIMD. Post then they are giving flop after flops.

iam really disappointed but iam sure the film will pick up on weekend coz the word of mouth is unbeleivable so life time will be arround 120 cr.

The big reason of low opening could be the Remake that was just just seen by audience last year and Holiday is simple copy of it. if they try to remake it after 2-3 years, it probably go better.
But it will be the worst, if Holiday take less opening than Himmatwala which was opened with v poor WOM both from audience and Critics and managed 12 crore. Holiday has more screen and better rating, should do better.
