Hero Movie Review: Sooraj Pancholi, Athiya Shetty

Sooraj Pancholi has been embroidered in controversy and is now a well known name because of his tryst with the law. Athiya Shetty has been quiet and unassuming thus far. When Salman decided to launch both of these actors in a film which is the remake of a yesteryear classic like Subhash Ghai’s Hero, eyebrows were raised. Do the two debutantes fulfill Salman’s and the audience’s expectations? Will the hit title song sung by Salman elevate the film? Let’s find out.

Story: Sooraj (Sooraj Pancholi) is a Mumabi street gunda who idolizes Pasha (Aditya Pancholi). Pasha has been implicated in a case by the IG of Police (Tigmanshu Dhulia). To take revenge from the IG, Pasha asks Sooraj to kidnap the IG’s daughter Radha (Athiya Shetty). Sooraj kidnaps her and they land up in the snow clad mountains of the North. But, Sooraj and Radha already know each other and Radha has feelings for him. After kidnapping Radha, even Sooraj starts developing feelings for Radha. Raha asks Sooraj to mend his ways? But will Sooraj choose Pasha or his love? To find that out, you have to watch the movie.

Hero Movie Review

Review: Nikhil Advani and Umesh Bisht have adapted the original story into a current setting. They maintain the crux of the original story but are unable to differentiate the screenplay too much from the original. The script has its sparks but eventually the whole film falters because of the strands which neither make a lot of sense to the present day audience nor are they entertaining enough. However, Hero reedeems itself in a lot of sequences and remains a largely enjoyable fare. Hero looks and feels good but the emotional depth which was abound in the 1983 film is lacking in this remake. For what its worth, Hero reeks of 80s action drama movies and that could be enjoyed by a portion of the audience, but the final product is too patchy and prevents it from reaching a higher level.

The technical aspects of Hero suit the nature and tone of the film very well. The action choreography was to the point and stylish. The choreography was also classy. The cinematography captured the terrains of Himachal Pradesh beautifully. The editing was swift and nifty. The music of Hero is definitely above average as the makers chose an assortment of composers. The tracks which caught our attention were Jab We Met and the last song which showcased the entire movie. And of course the title track sung by the one and only Salman Khan. The title track ties the whole film together beautifully.

Acting: Hero is the commercial showcase of Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty. And both of the debutantes put in commendable performances even if the film eventually fails them. Sooraj looks good, fights well and dances perfectly. He will have a good future in Bollywood if he chooses his films wisely. Athiya Shetty isn’t the most conventional looking Bollywood actress but she also shows her acting chops in Hero. If the public overlooks her looks, she can be set for a good innings. She is a good actress. Aditya Pancholi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sharad Kelkar, Vivan Bhatena, and the actors playing Sooraj’s friends have all done a commendable job.

Conclusion: In essence, Hero is a typical launchpad for any actor-actress in Bollywood. It is helped a lot by the fact that Sooraj and Athiya can actually act unlike the non-actors who debuted in Bollywood in recent years. Nikhil Advani fails to change the storyline too much and the end drags on for a little too long and the film feels patchy but Hero turned out to be an enjoyable watch. If you have a good two hours to spare and money to spend, then Hero is a one-time watch in theatre.

Positives:

  • Both Sooraj and Athiya do well on debut
  • Excellent cinematography, Himachal has been captured beautifully
  • Good music

Negatives

  • Emotional depth of the original film is missing
  • Story not suited for the present day audience
  • The original story hasn’t been changed

Rating: ★★½☆☆

  • though Hero was nt that good but one thing is sure that sooraj gonna destroy my talentless idol arjunK.i should join sooraj camp before he destroy arjunK’s carees

  • emraan hashmi is struggling due to low budget and poor promotion of his movies. no one is helping him instead of launching these useless actors by spending crores. To be honest I saw
hero the movie is very outdated and story is below average with mediocre acting.even vivek aftab ameesha gave better performance in their debut.

  • After and while watching HERO my one & only thought was…….Why I am not a GAY.

Because their is not any thing in the film without SOORAJ’S capsule body.

If I am a GAY,then at least I enjoy his body and it will be my favorite film so far.

But it was not happen,so I lost my Rs. 140 in the ticket counter of the plex.

    So poor I am !

But at least in the end there were BHAI.
So,I redused some of my frustrations which I got while watching HERO.

HERO deserves only 2 stars(**) and that because of BHAI & ATHIYA(who did some acting in this waste).

  • Performance?
I saw few reviews in other sites in which all were ridiculing the lead actors for their pathetic acting.. but indicine has seen the acting tallents of few non actors star kids.. grow up.. its the time for the audience to give a tight slap on the face of those people who are busy in spoiling the career of some really well deserved tallents struggling to get a break.. bollywood is not a jaagir of some star families..
@rayaan @babaji ka thullu, i am agree with you.. it seems a confused review trying to save the future of some non actors..

  • Watched this film today. If the film had been set in a town or small city, the parental opposition angle would have worked. But with characters set in Mumbai and the heroine being well educated, it feels forced.

The introduction scene of Sooraj is a rip-off of Salman’s Wanted intro scene, but sadly not even 25% impressive.

Nikhil Advani has proved with this film that making a commercial Hindi film entertainer is an art in itself and not his cup of tea.

  • This stale story is transported to 2015 for reasons best known to the filmmakers. If you are giving us a brand new pair, what is to stop you from giving us a brand new plot? And if you do have to remake that 80s show, why can’t you do a better job? The end brings relief, with Sallu Bhai working the end credits, exuding more star power in two minutes than we’ve seen in two hours. This ‘Hero’ is a zero

  • Salman is launching , Arjun Kapoor flop actor Sonakshi , only for masala, Zarine Khan flop actress , and now another criminal Sooraj … to much fun

  • Hero is made less than 25 cr. 20cr is already Recovered from satellite+music. In worst case hero will earn 20cr distributor shares. That’s means 10cr profit. Also Bhai earns more than 150cr per year PRDP will beat both original (176 crs) and manipulated (204 crs) collections of HNY within 7 days Make my words Haters Gonna Die Special sarookh fans too much fun

  • Poor Nikhil Advanni directed 7 movies include Hero but only one movie Which Starting SRK get Hit after all movie flop and seems Katti Batti also same result . emran khan also finished .

  • Hero getting mostly negetive reviews from every, God doing justice for Jiya khan n hero will turn a disaster

  • Watched it only for bhaijaan….Nikhil advani failed badly he is the culprit and reason for the failure of hero….bakwas direction maha bakwas screenplay….. Whistling started when bhai comes n ….else everyone went on to sleep post interval.

  • @ARJUN YOUNGISTAN FAN- remember those words because if HERO becomes a hit which it will then i will never stop roasting you. Mark my words and that includes everyone that thinks this will flop. Heck Heropanti became a success how the hell won’t this become a success.

  • Salman is doing selfless work by supporting these two newcomers, his fans are supporting. He is showing so much passion to promote the film.

On the other hand frustrated fans of flopstars are getting jealous and insecure about these two newcomers. Especially Akki fans who want every other actor and film to be flop as they feel insecure about Akki.

So much insecurity and frustration about newcomers shown by Akki fans. ROFL

  • @arjun
sooraj is better than flop arjun.sooraj has better future than arjun
    arjun is worst among youngistaan

  • I apologize for bash salman dada
who is the godfather of my flop
    talentless idol arjunK.
    PRDP 350cr

    ps: reason behind my apologization
is just to pleased bhai fans to support
    my flop idol arjunK

  • Why salman introduces and supports untalented people like Soraj,Arjun,Sana Khan,Daisy,Zarine and this Shetty Girl.I mean she has terrible face for a heroine ,check some close ups of her she is just terrible even after makeup and all that stuff. Please BHAI keeping my hatred for you aside plz give industry some good talent and introduce those talented person who dont have a godfather in industry.Like Nawaz got appreciation after struggle of 15 years

  • saw this film in cinema, but nothing is special about this film, the direction is not that good, the original film Hero was much better when it released and was a super hit film. The only good thing about this film, in my opinion, and I would say was 2: the songs, nice specially Koya Koya and O Khuda, and Suraj Pancholi, talented and did good as a debutant. About the actress.. hmm.. she’s no future in Bollywood because of the following: she doesn’t have a great look, a chemistry on the screen and if she wants to be a super actress.. she needs to do a lot in whatever relates to her “look”! she’s talented but doesn’t fit in category A. and what made it worse was the designer who selected her outfits.. very bad taste, she looked good in jeans only, not the dresses she used for this film.
