Happy New Year has shown tremendous growth in business on its 2nd Saturday at the box office. Business in Mysore circuit picked up as it was a holiday in the state of Karnataka for ‘Karnataka Rajyotsava’. Mumbai circuit is going well too.
Today, on the day Shahrukh Khan celebrates his birthday, business of Happy New Year is expected to grow further. If the film crosses the 10 crore mark, the 2nd weekend business will be around 23 crore which would take the 10-day total to 180 crore.
Yash Raj Films or Red Chillies Entertainment are yet to release the official figures for Friday and Saturday. Below are our estimates.

- Friday - 44.97 cr
- Saturday - 31.6 cr (29.7% drop)
- Sunday - 32.29 cr (2% growth)
- Monday - 15.01 cr (53.5% drop)
- Tuesday - 13.17 cr (12.2% drop)
- Wednesday - 11.02 cr (16.3% drop)
- Thursday – 9.51 cr (13.7% drop)
- 2nd Friday – 5.25 crore (44% drop)
- 2nd Saturday - 8 crore (52% growth)
- Grand Total (9 days) - 170.82 crore

Lifetime will be in the range of 210-220 cr. I failed into my predictions as I had predicted 240-270 cr with average WOM.
Considering the hype and the size of release, HNY’s collections are slightly disappointing and I must say, HNY didn’t trend as good as what it was expected to. Though we can’t call it under performance as still it managed to cross 200 cr, but it was not a good performance either.
And most of the credits goes to the long runtime. As soon as I came to know the runtime of HNY, I had predicted that forget D3, now it should compete with Kick/CE. But the first day collections gave some confidence that still I can be accurate on my predictions (240-270 cr), but unfortunately it continued to drop .
Obviously , no one wants to sit for three complete hours in this era of multiplexes. 2.5 hrs are more that enough for a light entertainer. CE is a perfect example of that.
If you ask me personally, JTHJ was one of the best performances of SRK and the movies was also good, but the long runtime and lenthy script ruined that movie.
Same happened here with HNY.
With this , it is now clear that Salman will be on top this year too, as I don’t have much hope from PK(at least in terms of collections).
HNY is going to cross 200cr by producers and collect less than 200cr by trade
It will be thrown out of the 200cr club like Krrish3
