Gunday has scored big on its opening day at the domestic box office with phenomenal business at both multiplexes and single screens. In fact, the occupancy at multiplexes was better than a big film like Jai Ho, which is outstanding considering the fact that Gunday had no bankable male superstar.
As per estimates based on collections from a few centers, Gunday has collected around Rs 14 – 15 cr on Day 1.
The first day business is comparable to Ranveer Singh’s last release Ram Leela, which managed to put up better numbers on Day 1 due to strong business in Gujarat / Saurashtra region.
The reports are mixed, so it remains to be seen if Gunday can sustain on Day 2. Most films that open to such high occupancy on Friday, especially at mass-centres, tend to show marginal drops on Saturday.

If you bother revisiting all the comment pages, you would find that I haven’t sown anything. Most of my comments have been kinda replies to SRK fans. What has Jai Ho to do with Gunday that your co-fans need to bash up Jai Ho under every article? Be it One By Two, HTP or Gunday?
This time also I have made just replies. How can you ignore the fact that Jai Ho had nothing but Salman and the message in the film? On top of that, there were series of controversies Salman was dragged into. It was an out and out non-festive release.
Despite the clash, JTHJ was released in 2500 Screes. Festive release. Huge casts and crews. Everything was in its favor. Yet it did business way below ETT and Dabangg 2.
What I am trying to say is one can’t single out one under-performace/best-performance of actor to justify his/her trollings and to portray him/her (the actor) in negative/positive light respectively. Yes, I do admit that Jai Ho has under-performed. Life is about ups and downs.
Why do these people only single out Jai Ho’s under-performance? Why don’t they talk about five 5 back-to-back BBs which no body could have done except for the late Rajesh Khanna?
@ anand get a life dude jai ho is a 2014 movie release after 2 month of ramleela and 3 weeks before Gunday….how much jai ho collects ??? JTHJ get 120 with SOS (ajay,sanjay and salman saying pathan ke yaar se panga mat lena) but what happens SOS manage 103 in 12 while DON 2 in 11 108+7=115….in 2014 how much JAI HO get?
Haters are comparing Ranveer to Salman whereas Arjun & Ranbir shouts ‘Sab ki Aan, Sab ki Shaan. Apna ek Bhaijaan’ on comedy circus during Gunday Promotion. They didnt even name srk despite Gunday being a Yrf production. I wish Ranveer & Arjun all the best n hope proves much better than Ranbir Besharam (who was also hyped to be bigger star than Salman by haters) !!!!!

Forget Khans or Jai Ho- Gunday movie + the Gunday lads will be Bigger than Krrish 3 and Hrithik Roshan… Bollywoods new Gunday will replace SRK and Hrithik this Valentines- a Bloody Valentine as the Gunday are in town staking their claim to the throne…!

How does it feel when someone else says Ranveer is better than SRK just because Gunday had an opening similar to JTHJ and Don 2? That’s what your co-fans have been doing with Salman’s Jai Ho. Last week, HTP was better than Jai Ho. I am not the one that has started all these.
And I want to ask you the same question how much Ra.One in 2011 collected when Dabangg made more than 145 Crores in 2010. If you count a negative factor against JTHJ (i.e. clash with SOS), won’t you do the same with Jai Ho as well. Controversies against Salman before Jai Ho release, Riding solely on Salman’s shoulder, Non-Festive Releases etc???
Everyone has his own prons and cons. Let him be SRK, Salman, Aamir or anyone else. They are not doing any marathon race that one must be number one. There is no such thing.
@Khairul, your argument sounds logical. SRK, Salman, Aamir, Hrithik, Ajay, Akshay are in a different league altogether. They are established superstars. Any newcomers can’t replace them like the afore-mentioned stars are unable to replace Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bacchan, Dharmendra, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna etc.

Having said, this year, only four-six can cross 200 crores. And none of them can cross 250 Crores. Take it from me, 2013 was exceptional.
