Generous Akshay Kumar donates Rs 50 lakh towards drought hit Maharashtra

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is one of the highest paid stars in the industry, but not many are aware that the actor is extremely generous when it comes to social causes or helping the under privileged.

The state of Maharashtra is currently facing one of the worst droughts in years. Of the 43,000 villages in the state, 27,723 villages have been declared drought-hit and 54 out of the 75 medium dams have been declared dry.

The conditions in the state is extreme, so the state government has started ‘Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan’ that aims at making villages drought-proof by developing water harvesting techniques including construction of ponds.

Akshay was one of the first actors to make a donation towards the initiative. The actor has donated Rs 50 lakh, but says he is too ’embarrassed’ to talk about the charity work that he does.

It was only when Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, thanked Akshay for his contribution, that the news came into limelight.

Earlier too, Akshay had donated Rs 90 lakh that would be used to help support the 180 families of farmers who had committed suicide. He also donated a huge sum of money to Chennai when the city was affected by floods.
