Filmfare Awards is the second most prestigious award in the industry after the Indian National Awards. Part of the reason is history, Filmfare is the oldest awards in the Hindi film industry. Out of more than 20 categories and trophies presented each year, the Filmfare Best Actor Award is something that the entire industry and fans look forward to. It’s also the most fiercely competed and discussed category, as those nominated for the Best Actor award are usually a combination of immense popularity and talent. Filmfare Popular awards, in itself, is 50% audience voting and 50% jury.
Some facts:
- Dilip Kumar has been nominated 19 times and won 8 awards. The legend is also the only actor to win 3 back to back awards. His conversions of receiving a nomination to winning an actor, is by far the best.
- Shahrukh Khan has been nominated 34 times (all categories) and has won the Best Actor award 8 times, a record which he shares with Dilip Kumar.
- Amitabh Bachchan has been nominated for a record 29 times but has won just 5 awards.
- Hrithik Roshan has been nominated 12 times and has won 4 trophies. Hrithik is the first and only actor to win both the Best Actor and Best Debut awards in the same year (for Kaho Na Pyaar Hai). And the first actor to win both the Best Actor critics and popular award (for Koi Mil Gaya).
- Rajesh Khanna has received 14 nominations and has won just 3.
- One of the biggest superstars in the industry, Salman Khan has received the ‘highest number of nominations without winning’. Some of his notable losses are to Jackie Shroff in 1989 (Maine Pyaar Kiya), Shahrukh in 1995 (Karan Arjun) and Hrithik in 2003 (Tere Naam).
- Aamir Khan has won the Filmfare Best Actor award twice, but he refused to accept the award for Lagaan in 2001 and doesn’t attend any Indian award ceremony.
- Among stars who are currently popular, Ajay is the only actor to win both National Awards and Filmfare Awards. The other name is Amitabh Bachchan. The Khans, Hrithik and Ranbir have never won a National award. Srk had 5 highest grosser in a year & he had best actor award in each year . though in 2004 he got for swades but if swades wasn’t there than VZ for counter. In 2007 OSO had if CDI hadn’t after all srk had double role in the film. Srk wasn’t deserving for DDlj (Aamir for Rangeela), DTPH (Anil for Virasat), KKHH (but competition wasn’t there much), CDI (Darsheel for TZP), MNIK (Salman for Dabangg/Ajay for ouatimd)

Ok for the record heres my list but I wont bother about a top 10 or top 15 actors best performance list as we all know just the Top 5 matters so here it is.
1- Aamir Khan- Lagaan (Rangeela was good GRANTED but as Munna I felt the role was too easy for him or maybe he made it look so comfortable but in Lagaan you can see the struggles in trying to pull of the character in every scene so it made it look that much better)
2- Akshay Kumar- Ajnabee (the wife swap angle was unique n it needed a villainous portrayal by Akki so for me it was better than his Mohra, Hera Pheri or Dhadkan performances)
3- Hrithik Roshan- Jodhaa Akbar- when I heard about this film being in the works I feared a Troy type movie with an ago centric Akbar type role but Hrithik was calm, cool n collective like a Russell Crowe from Gladiator- sublime performance n his best work ever- JA was Hrithiks equivalent to what MEA was for Dilip Kumar- ICONIC.
4- Salman Khan- HAHK- for those of us young enough to remember the MPK magic from early 90s thought bhai could not give us another Prem type performance were truly mistaken as his HAHK Prem brought back those cheerful memories once again to our hearts n houses. Bhai truly rocked
5- Srk- Not Swades n not CDI as I found both films a drag but strangely I loved his KHNH Aman performance the best. Cant say why but guess love was in the air for me in those days n the way he played that role of Aman brought a tear to my eye- truly great stuff.
