The nominations for the biggest awards of the season is out!
Chennai Express, Ram Leela and Raanjhanaa get nominated in all four major categories – Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress.
Arguably the most popular film of the year and also the highest grosser worldwide – Dhoom 3 – gets royally snubbed. The film hasn’t received a single nomination in any of the ‘popular’ categories.

Before I used to respect Filmfare Awards. Of ALL the commercial awards shows, Filmfare and Screen Awards were the only two that were credible to a certain extent. BUT this year, they really really really let me down. I cannot even imagine how bad these nominations are. And by that I mean the main awards. The supporting roles, along with the music and technical categories are good to great as usual. It is always the Popular awards that make these nominations such a downer.
Yes, Filmfare gives credit to 50% audience voting (and it is understandable people will obviously vote for the leading popular actors) My point is not about that. My point is that Filmfare should seriously seriously consider themselves whether they WANT to become a genuine, credible source of pride and a sense of achievement for the actors. It seemingly doesn’t want to though. They are going to their 60th anniversary now, but looking at these nominations, it looks like they gathered a bunch of 20 year olds from Juhu and asked them to compile the list of their favourite films.
SRK gets nominated for virtually EVERYTHING he does. Not saying he was bad in Chennai Express, but would this nomination really matter to SRK? This is his what, 23243th nomination? Looking back at his career and performances, would this even rank in his top 10? And Filmfare ALWAYS favors commercial, A-List Stars. How does that give encouragement and boost to other actors who are equally or more talented than SRK? Isn’t awards shows supposed to highlight and encourage the BEST of the year? How is that fair to others like Irrfan Khan in Lunchbox (who was sublime), Akshay Kumar in Special 26 (who gave his career-best performance), Ranveer Singh in Lootera (another career-best role), Neeraj Kabi in Ship of Theseus or Sushant Singh Rajput in Kai Po Che (ground-breaking debuts), Rajkumar Rao in Shahid (bravest performance of the year)?? ALL of their performances were milesss ahead than SRK in Chennai Express, or Ranbir in YJHD for that matter in my humble opinion.
I liked Chennai Express and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, but in what world are those films better than MUCH deserving films like The Lunchbox, Ship of Theseus, Special 26, Kai Po Che, Lootera, Bombay Talkies?? Awards shows, and especially such an esteemed one like Filmfare should be awarding the BEST of the year, not the ones who did the best box-office record. Yes, box office collections also count tremendously, but WHY oh WHY do critically acclaimed, challenging, genre-defining, mature films and performances get passed on for such escapists, usual masala flicks?? And I’m not trying to debase the 100-crore masala films. If they are too ground-breaking and actually GOOD, then they deserve to be awarded as well! But this year’s Best Film nominees YJHD, Chennai Express are not those. Raanjhanaa was great in the first half, but it flopped in the second half.
Filmfare Awards, you really need to pull your act together. Last year by nominating films like Kahaani (and especially giving best director to Sujoy Gosh), Vicky Donor, Shanghai, Gangs of Wasseypur, you gave me some hope. But you are back to your usual stars-whoring way. As long as SRK and Salman and Katrina and Hrithik dance for your show, you are willing to do anything. It is because of this very mindset we have that’s the reason why our Hindi films have not been able to take a momentous flight. We never want to change. We never want to try new and better things. And when truly good films come once or twice a year, we don’t respect them at all.
There goes my rant.

If a mindless masala movie dabangg can win the filmfare award for best movie by beating some critically acclaimed movies like mnik, ghuzarish, udaan then why can’t chennai express atleast be nominated for the category? After all ce was the most entertaining movie of the year(atleast for me and i am not biased like others). Now coming to best actor category, then for me best actor must be farhan for bmb, and if its not farhan then i would like to give it to aamir for dhoom3. But he is not nominated which is not a big deal because he himself doesn’t respect filmfare. So how can the filmfare award would be given to a person who doesn’t even respect that.. Now coming to best director, i am seeing many comments regarding no nomination for rakesh roshan. I personally feal that many scenes in krrish3 were directly copied from hollywood flicks. So there was a lack of originality in the movie and hence no nomination, though i liked the movie. On the other hand chennai express and yjhd were niether remakes nor sequels. These were completely new movies with fresh content and were accepted by audience also. So you cant say that rohit shetty and ayan mukherjee do not deserve the nomination. And let me remind you that the fourth week collections of both movies is better than dhoom3 whose expected 4th week collection is around 4 crs, as compared to ce’s 5.74 crs and yjhd’s 6.5 crs.. So both movies trended well in long run.. Yeah but i am slightly dissapointed with music director category due to absence of shankar ehsan loy for bmb. I found their music as most refreshing and original and i wished they win filmfare for that, but they didn’t get nominated which was surprising for me.. My best wishes to all the nominees.

The illogical nominations from Filmfare :
Based on trends and facts the below points conclude what these nominations means:
* If they take by popularity it will be Aamir for giving highest grosser of the year in Dhoom 3.
* personally I believe D3 is below expectation in content (keeping Aamir for picking amazing scripts) but still it made a havoc at Box Office.
* CE was copied from various south movies or call it as unofficial remake of multiple movies but thanks to Rohit Shetty he made the audience sit and enjoy the movie.
* Acting wise only Irrfan Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik deserve the award.
* Filmfare knows Aamir wont make it to award ceremony hence they want to make srk happy for giving an ATBB (which stood just 3 months) after long time !!!!!!!
* Hrithik was far better than Srk. Farhaan Akhtar > Irrfan Khan > Akshay Kumar > Hrithik Roshan.
* After D3 success srk fans said it is due to franchise, more screens and YRF. Even If one agrees to it will they accept CE success is due to Eid, Salman absence (no movies in 2013) and Deepika popularity ?

I don’t think its fair to blame filmfare awards, after all, the nominations were all decided by public voting. But I do believe that CE didn’t deserve best film, best director and best music nominations. I just hope the best nominees win ! Also Richa Chaddha should have been nominated for best supporting actress for ram-leela!
