FAN has done well on Day 1 at the box office, but the response has been mixed at mass centres where the film opened well but couldn’t sustain throughtout theday.
As per early estimates, the first day collections will be in the 19 crore range, which would be the highest single day collections of 2016 – ahead of the third day collections of Airlift.
Friday was a holiday in parts of the country for Ram Navami, so the collections of Saturday would be crucial for the long term box office prospects of FAN. If the film shows growth, it would be a positive trend and the film will peak on Sunday.

Though most of the SRK fans voted for Raees, I preferred FAN over Raees. I don’t know why, but right from it’s (FAN) announcement, I found myself attached to it more than any other upcoming movie of SRK.
So let me conclude if FAN lived upto my expectations or not.
Occupancy : The show, which I attended was an early evening show (07:15 pm) and it was packed till full capacity. Yes, you read it right. Not even a single seat was vacant. But Boss, let me remind you all, we have underestimated “The jungle book” , which is going to be an ultimate under dog of 2016. I saw huge gathering outside Jungle book screens. So Jungle book is going to affect FAN in coming days for sure.
Story : No need to narrate it again. Indicine has already narrated it nicely.
Acting : will that be an exaggeration if we call SRK God of acting? I don’t think so. FAN is a perfect example that how a megastar can run the entire movie on his own soldiers. There is absolutely no contribution from any of the supporting artists and right from the beginning, you will be amused with the acting persona of SRK. He amazes you as Aryan Khanna, at the same time, he gives you an “Aww” kind of expression with Gaurav Chandana.
Music : There is only one song in FAN, that too was missing from the movie. Background score is “Satisfactory” , not excellent.
Direction : Few idiots are criticizing Manish Sharma, but he deserves an applaud for this brave attempt. From a rom-com to a compact thriller, Manish has transformed himself easily and efficiently.
My best FAN moments :
-The very first scene, where SRK takes a round jump. The whole audiences burst into applaud.
-The funny fight between Gaurav and three of the goons outside Gaurav’s café. They have picturised it so nicely that it looks real and at the same time, funny too.
-When Gaurav shouts for Aryan from the crowd. Just notice each and every expression of Gaurav in those 30-40 seconds. I doubt if any other actor has the capability to perform that particular moment with same intensity .
-When Arayn leaves Gaurva devastated and walks away from the lock up. Gaurav starts sobbing and crying afterwards. Only SRK can put such strong emotion in that scene.
-First half ends with a note “Jab Jab Aryan Khanna ka naam liya jayega, Gaurav Chandana ka naam bhi liya jayega”. Lights turn on (indicating the intermission) and a random girl sitting behind me tells her friend ,”Achhi hai yaar”.
That one statement gave me such a joy that I can’t express in words. It’s always a pleasure to listen such appreciation directly from the audience instead of relying on critics or anyone else for that matter.
-Though for most of the people, second half is slow, but for me , it’s the second half , which stole the show. All the chasing scenes, Gaurav putting his efforts to destroy Arayn’s name and prestige etc makes you that much engross, that you will think twice before taking your eyes away form the screen.
-And then comes the wonderful climax which gave tears to many eyes. Not an exaggeration, I saw many girls sobbing at the end.
Conclusion : FAN is a must watch for all. Whether you are an SRK Fan or not, just head towards theatres and give it a watch. I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed.
At the same time, I would wish to add that FAN is not the best SRK movie (as many are claiming). It has minor flaws but overall it’s a great watch.
Yes, if you are talking about SRK’s performance, then I must say, it will make it’s place in “top 3 all time best performances of SRK”.
Until some extra ordinary performance comes into the second half of 2016, please keep all the awards (in best actor category) reserved for SRK.
Official collections will go past 20cr which is fantastic considering the genre and almost no appeal of the movie towards masses.
Also, WOM will come into the picture by Saturday. So first day, whatever FAN collects, it’s all because of only one man, that is The King Mr. ShahRukh Khan.
There was nothing in the movie. No masala, no comedy, no chartbuster songs, but still if people rushed towards the theatres just to watch SRK, that’s the biggest achievement for a superstar and his fans.
@Anand 1:00 am : Have some shame before comparing. Hiked ticket price and YRF won’t work for a movie, which doesn’t have a single song or any light moments. And how many comfort zones do SRK has? When he appears into a romantic movie, you call it his comfort zone. When he comes with a serious role, you call that his comfort zone. And now, when he came with a psychological thriller, that also became his comfort zone for you. So if an actor is having so many “Comfort zones” , he should be probably the best actor in this world , with such a large set of variations. Right?

Next, going ahead with your logic, BM, TWMR and AirLift, all three were content oriented movie.
BM collected 180cr+, TWMR collected 150cr+ and AirLift wrapped up within 150cr. So does that make Akki a smaller star than Kangana or Ranveer.

The 55% occupancy of Flop Ho was an average of entire day, while 50-55% occupancy of FAN was just till afternoon (2 PM). Post that, almost every trade expert confirmed that FAN has picked up really well in evening/late night show. Even I attended a houseful show in the evening.
So that will obviously improve the overall occupancy and I think, it should be somewhere between 65-70% for FAN. So with 65-70% of occupancy and 3500 screens, it can easily collect 20cr.

I am a die hard Salman Khan fan. But this is definitely Shahrukh Khan’s best performance. The movie for guys who have grown up in 90’s is a pleasure to watch. I am sure from a box office standpoint Sultan will break all box office records but having watched Fan today I must say I may not like him but I sure do respect him.

Also remember only 4 of the few superstars have opened with more than 30 cr. Salman Srk Aamir and Ajay. Even Tic Tic could not open with a bumper 30 cr who is way bigger than Makki. Gobar was given chance on Independence day what happened? it’s not about holidays it is simply Star power..
