Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN has taken the best opening of 2016. The early morning shows on Friday were at around the 50-55% mark, with late-morning / noon shows recording 55-60% occupancy.
The opening falls in the ‘excellent’ category, which is a commendable achievement because the film was riding almost entirely on Shah Rukh’s ability to bring audience to theatres on Friday morning. Like we’ve already mentioned in some of our previous articles, FAN didn’t tick any of the boxes when it comes to commercial Hindi films that generally get a good opening. The film did not have a leading lady, nor did it have popular music (in fact, FAN is completely songless) or an extravagant marketing campaign.
The fact that the film has still opened to levels that suggest a 20 crore plus first day (net collections), is a big achievement.
The last film to take a ‘excellent’ or better opening was ‘Dilwale’ and before that it was ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, proving yet again that the industry is still dependent on Khans, followed by Hrithik for a big start on Friday. These are the only actors who have consistently delivered on the morning of release for the last few years.
FAN is set for a good first day at the box office, but the real test will come on Saturday and Sunday when word-of-mouth comes into play. It’ll have a base, but whether it manages to build on that or not, will depend on the neutral section of audience (those who are not fans) - which is why word-of-mouth will be crucial for the film. More so since ‘The Jungle Book’ is on a phenomenal run at the box office.

For all the time I have spent here at Indicine, I am yet to come across one single Salman fan here at Indicine who gives an honest feedback when it comes to SRK.

Billu 2 is just a mindless masala crapp. Gaurav can easily go and come out of many secured places in London and other parts of Europe and go unnoticed.
Even Gaurav enters Aryan’s home unnoticed. When Aryan calls a press-conference to inform the world that the stalker is threat to world revolving around him, how can he not say this to his family.
How his wife easily allows Gaurav to enter inside the house. And yes there are many such scenes in second half. Majority part of second half looks unreal & childish.
Another big loophole in the film is that Gaurav who is a lookalike of Aryan, looks slightly different from Aryan in face features. However there are many sequences where Gaurav looks exactly same as Aryan. Even Aryan’s secretary and wife fails to recognise the differences.

I faced unexpected situation at cinepax Rawalpindi-When I asked them 3.30 ticket they said sorry sir Houseful-I said ok then give 3 tickets for 5.30-they said sorry sir Houseful.Tickets for late nights shows are available(11.30 PM & 12.30 AM )and 2.30 PM show tickets are available.I was surprised on the fact that if all other shows are houseful then why not the first one of day which was at 2.30-I said Ok give me 3 tickets of 2.30 and the girl said “Sir Screen 5 ka Air Conditioner Kharab ha phir b de don”?Then I realized why 2.30 tickets were available.
This was a surprising thing as tickets of Bajrangi Bhaijan were available for multiple shows even on Eid. Similarly tickets for Dilwale ist Saturday(which is best day for collections in Pak) were available for multiple shows (although back then I pre booked tickets).But on normal working day houseful shows in evening and night shows was some thing extra ordinary

Less screens means lesser stardom. Exhibitors always give more screens to big stars. Eg- srk movies get more screens than tushar kapur movies, bcoz srk>>>tushar kapur. In the same way Bhai movies get more screens than srk movies, because Bhai>>>>srk.
