At 9:15 in the morning today, Bollywood’s evergreen romantic film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ was played for the very last time at Mumbai’s iconic Maratha Mandir. In 35 weeks, the film would have completed 20 long years at cinemas, but the Shahrukh Khan – Kajol starrer ends its glorious run of 1009 weeks today – after it began playing for the very first time on October 19 1995.
Directed by Aditya Chopra, DDLJ is one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian Cinema.
DDLJ Last Week
Yash Raj Films sent out a statement to the media:
After a historic 1000 week run, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge made its final curtain call at the iconic Maratha Mandir today.
Post the 1000 week celebrations last December, the theatre had requested YRF to prepone the DDLJ morning show to 9:15 AM instead of 11:30 AM as it was becoming difficult for the cinema to accommodate multiple new releases every week with just 3 regular shows.
Of course YRF obliged from 13th Feb 2015. However, while the theatre management was happy to continue the film for as long as it continued to draw in the audiences, owing to logistical issues of their staff having to work inordinately long hours to accommodate an additional early morning show, it was mutually decided to end the films historic & record breaking run.
After playing for 1009 uninterrupted weeks, the films unprecedented performance has come to an end at the Maratha Mandir. The film played out in the 9:15 AM show today for the last time at the theatre.
However, this endearing and endless romance will continue to live in our hearts forever…
Look at the insanity of asad khan nonody- hahk didnt even have 5% of an open run like DDLJ n still it collected 10% more than kings crap in its one n only run in 1994…!
Kings fans think HAHK is a failure despite 49 million ppl seeing it inside its original 30 werk run and its a bigger achievement for Global king as his 50 million subjects have seen his film after a long 20 yr uninterrupted bo run…

@Sht : You will only believe the site which declares Srk movies collection higher than Aamir and Salman. There is a difference of 6 crores between HAHK and DDLJ and not to forget footfalls which HAHK garnered until Gadar came. If you still want to deny or refuse thats fine but that doesnt change the fact !!!!!

@hritik I m following box office business since 1993 and DDLJ did 58 cr and HAHK did 60cr after their first year of business and this one has acknowledged by every trade like taran, komal, filmfare, screen, IBOS etc. Boi have born in 2003 and in their site too HAHK was 65 cr and DDLJ was 61 cr, and gadar was 70 cr until 2008. LRMB was first movie to break gadar 70 cr record in 2006 Boi shuffled all numbers and reduced oso numbers etc. to put gadar on top infact they deleted all old datas and now I read few days back HAHK figure is 73, gadar 76 but DDLJ was remained same. But truth is that HAHK has stoped screening after first year then how they increased the numbers. In contrast DDLJ is still running without interrupt and it was deserved to more collection. Definitely Boi will add few lacs in DDLJ total to show they are not anti DDLJ and srk but they already increased number of HAHK and gadar to proved how DDLJ was smaller success compare to other two. Really shame on such site. But I m more surprise how indicine too follow blindly despite knows their fraud.

@Sht : What you said may be correct but in that case HAHK ahead of DDLJ !!!! Collections of DDLJ during marathon run at Maratha mandir cannot be considered. Theres is a certain limit or period from which lifetime collections are calculated. If we consider DDLJ collections from Marathon run then every rich producer with a decent movie can own a theatre n run his movie for years to show more lifetime collections. I am not a BOI fan but relies on facts !!!!!!!!!!

@sss : keep blabbering !!!! I am not deny DDLJ popularity but still in terms of BO HAHK is ahead of DDLJ. May be in your society its a shit movie but Indian audiences gave verdict when it was released by giving highest foot falls than DDLJ & it held record for highesy foot falls until Gadar came.
@hritik trade considers lifetime collections of movies based on first phase of its release. And DDLJ didn’t ended its first phase till now. Even though I dont consider collections post 1998 but movie was running from 1995 to 1998 it was running many theatre across the country. I will give u the history of HAHK runs and I m 100% sure indice also didn’t know about it. This movie ran solely on its own merit and sooraj’s business stratergy. There is no salman Madhuri’s stardom involved in it. Salman gave 8 back to back desastrous. This movie released on just one screen in every city (25-30 screen) and many people didn’t aware about it released. I ll give u Mumbai story. It was released in libarty cinema behind metro cinema. Fist four week collections came around 99% means almost houseful. From 5th week onward released in basant cinema chembur then satyam cinema worli, geity- bandra, shreyas – ghatkoper , chandan cinema- juhu joined liberty cinema by 12th week. And from 15th to 35 week of its movie saw all time high buseness until Karan Arjun released in second week of January. Almost 75 cinema across the country it celebrate 100 days 30-35 cinema 25 weeks and 10-15 golden jubilee week (50 weeks) in Mumbai , liberty, geity celebrated golden jubilee. And mangala- Pune 55 weeks next year DDLJ arrived and from first day movie released 15 cinemas in Mumbai and all fifteen cinemas were running 90-100% capacity till 10th week then from 80-90 from 10-20 with more no of screen. And it celebrated 100 days around 75 cinema and 25 weeks more than 25 cinema. And golden jubilee around 15-20 cinema 55 weeks in new excelsior Mumbai, 50-weeks galaxy- bandra 60 weeks mangala Pune. Then it had shifted to Maratha mandir for matinee show. And rest is everybody knows.
@sht,bro I don’t know so many facts that you have mentioned but only this much that DDLJ ran in many theatres including maratha mandir for so many years in both Mumbai and Punjab.but do whatever this peoples like @hrithik will not listen.better you show them the proof and zip those moron’s mouths.
for me it was just a good film, but not that special to run in the cinemas all these years!!! KKHH was a way better than this film and many of Shahrukhs films which deserved to run in cinemas for longer period of time.
@sss I never knows there would be Internet in future and one day we are going to discuss this issue on filmi forums otherwise I might have preserve those datas. Beleive me I m both srk and salman fans from bigining but fact must be told. Even I watched salman’s movie like nichay, sangdil sanam, chandramukhi that indicine also don’t know HAHK was never benefited salman but Madhuri walked away all the credit. HAHK only helps salman from desastrous run. It is Karan Arjun when salman revive his career. He received more clap and vistle than srk. Then veergati (though movie turn flop) but many people started liking him but by the srk’s popularity reached the zenith with DDLJ, ramjane, Trimurti (bumper opening) etc. his average or flop movies earns more than hit movies of other star.
It’s still running I wanna see the faces of ark haters and tell em apply medicine on the burn
