At 9:15 in the morning today, Bollywood’s evergreen romantic film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ was played for the very last time at Mumbai’s iconic Maratha Mandir. In 35 weeks, the film would have completed 20 long years at cinemas, but the Shahrukh Khan – Kajol starrer ends its glorious run of 1009 weeks today – after it began playing for the very first time on October 19 1995.
Directed by Aditya Chopra, DDLJ is one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian Cinema.

Yash Raj Films sent out a statement to the media:
After a historic 1000 week run, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge made its final curtain call at the iconic Maratha Mandir today.
Post the 1000 week celebrations last December, the theatre had requested YRF to prepone the DDLJ morning show to 9:15 AM instead of 11:30 AM as it was becoming difficult for the cinema to accommodate multiple new releases every week with just 3 regular shows.
Of course YRF obliged from 13th Feb 2015. However, while the theatre management was happy to continue the film for as long as it continued to draw in the audiences, owing to logistical issues of their staff having to work inordinately long hours to accommodate an additional early morning show, it was mutually decided to end the films historic & record breaking run.
After playing for 1009 uninterrupted weeks, the films unprecedented performance has come to an end at the Maratha Mandir. The film played out in the 9:15 AM show today for the last time at the theatre.
However, this endearing and endless romance will continue to live in our hearts forever…
Though, I am hardcore Salman fan but I enjoyed DDLJ to the core, I was in 11-12 std. then. Who can forget the song, ‘Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna’, ‘Zara sa jhoom loon main’, ‘Tujhe Dekha to yeh’. Every good thing has to end one day and so it has ended, but the memory will remain forever.

The theatre owner must have lost money by running this puke worthy film instead of accommodating a few more shows of PK
longest running movie means it has been loved and been watched if it was not pulling crowd in the cinema then why would maratha mandir kept it going? it has beaten previous record breaking movies like sholay or Mughle azam. The running of the film all these years is not easy. no other movie has reached this record. Whoever says its overrated or such and such a film was better fact is ddlj stayed in cinema without a break where no other movie has ever done. Be it sholay hahk or which ever. its phenomenal and i dont think the owners used to go out there and force people to enter in the cinema hall lol!!!! haters can burn as much as they want this record will take time to be broken if it ever happens!!! congo to the ddlj team srk made everyone fall in love!!!

200cr, 300, 400cr, 1000cr all these records will be overtaken sooner or later but 1009 week will remain forever. Before DDLJ everybody keep talking 5 years runs of sholay. Now here on it is DDLJ until end of the world Common people never discussed about business but how long movie runs.

@Hritik Boi has manipulate HAHK collection from 65 to 70 cr in 2011 but fact that there was hardly 2cr e difference until 2006 in every sourc and I m sure indicine will give u same collections what Boi gives. Just like they follow same collection for oso (reduced to 79 cr from 85 cr) and this thing indicine knows still they follows Boi numbers) It’s open that Boi is pro salman site. They don’t want srks movies to be on highest grossers.

Difference between Sholays glorious 5 yr run n DDLJs torturous 20 yr run was that Sholay did eventually become the Biggest Movie off all time so it was worthy of a long run unlike the Anupam Kher starrer DDLJ which never got close to HAHK…!
