Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu HIT or FLOP – Box Office Prediction

Karan Johar’s Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, directed by Shakun Batra on debut, releases today. The film has a fresh star cast (Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor) and good catchy music as it’s major USP’s.

It’s the second film from the Dharma Productions banner to release in as many weeks – Agneepath released on 26th January and opened to historic numbers. Can Ek Main Aur Ek Tu repeat the magic? Will it be back to back hits for Dharma?  We certainly hope so, as the pre-release reports are fabulous. Those who have watched it, have only good things to say about the film.

Coming to the film’s economics, the producers have supposedly recovered their investment even before the films release.  Sources say, the satellite rights have been sold for 15 crores, the music rights fetched 6 crores (purchased by T-Series) and the distribution rights has been acquired by UTV Motion Pictures for 30 crores (not officially confirmed).

At the box-office, the film is expected to open well on Friday. We expect the Day 1 collections to be around 6 – 7 crores. Below is a detailed HIT or FLOP prediction

IF GOOD (positive word-of-mouth)
Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

  • Day 1 – 7 crores
  • Weekend – 24 crores
  • Weekdays – 13 crores
  • Week 1 Total – 37 crores
  • Final – 60 crores+ (Super HIT)

IF AVERAGE (mixed word-of-mouth)

  • Day 1 – 6.5 crores
  • Weekend – 21 crores
  • Weekdays – 11 crores
  • Week 1 Total – 32 crores
  • Final – 50 crores (HIT)

IF BAD (negative word-of-mouth)

  • Day 1 – 6 crores
  • Weekend – 18 crores
  • Weekdays – 9 crores
  • Week 1 Total – 27 crores
  • Final – < 40 crores (Below Average or Flop)

Then again, we predicted 15 crores on the opening day for Agneepath and the film did about 22- 23 crores. Box-office predictions are impossible to make, but this is one of the most reader-requested features on our website.

Overall, we think Ek Main Aur Ek Tu will do well at the box-office. The target audience is the urban youth and the film should do well at multiplexes all over. At single-screens though, Dharma will continue to rule with Agneepath.

What do you think? Will Ek Main Aur Ek Tu be a HIT or FLOP at the box-office? Tell us in the comments section below.
