Amol Palekar to pay tribute to Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee with his first-ever comedy film, Dumkata.
Amol Palekar will pay homage to two of his favourite directors, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee. Amol?s upcoming film is called Dumkata and this is the first time that Amol is making a comedy film. It has moments taken from day- to- day lives.
The story of Dumkata revolves around an urban couple and their two children. It boasts of an interesting cast that includes Om Puri, Sachin Khedekar, Sharnaz Patel, and child actors Khush Mallick and Aseem Desai.
Amol Palekar says, “I always try and do something different in my films and this film is completely different from what I have made earlier. These are the kind of films that Hrishida and Basuda used to make. Those films belonged to a completely different gharana and Dumkata is a film belonging to the same gharana. It’s not slapstick and there are no double meaning dialogues or any vulgarity. It is a complete family entertainer which kids will also enjoy.”
Scriptwriter Sandhya Gokhale says, “This is the kind of film that Amolji has never made and it will be a lot of fun. Our film industry lacks originality and as far as children?s films are concerned, there is no creativity.”
Palekar says, “I have already shot for about ten days in Pune and there are two kids in the film who are responding and enjoying as much as Om, Sharnaz or Sachin. It is good to see everyone having a ball on the sets.
?I remember that Sandhya had come up to me and said that she had written three scripts which were serious, intense films but she also had an idea which was completely different from them. When she narrated that one line to me, I loved it so much that we immediately decided to make it.”
