On Friday, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale recorded the 16th highest opening day collections of all time. The collections are exactly the same as Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 which released during the same weekend in 2012.
Solo release and sequel are the factors that favoured Dabangg 2, while Dilwale had to compete against a big film like Bajirao Mastani. The other difference is that Dilwale releases nearly 3 years after Dabangg 2, tickets are costlier at the moment. Stay tuned to Indicine for a more detailed comparison between Dabangg 2 and Dilwale.
Happy New Year continues to top the list, followed by Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – the only two movies to record 40 crore plus collections on a single day.

Its tickets were much cheaper as well. Meanwhile, Dilwale has Kajol and Varun as well with much higher ticket prices!

Dilwale is being loved by all family audiences. Family audiences r pouring in large numbers. 65 crore weekend is expected which is great. All overseas records r broken. Its definitely gona be an atb in overseas.

Hi everyone i was not in Aurangabad so i was not able to come on Indicine . Dilwale has underperformed on the first day according to me . The two day collections of both the movies suggest that this will be a close contest . From now on the weekdays will be the deciding factor between both the movies . In Overseas Circuits it was always Dilwale but in India BM has done really well till now . I think i am among those few people who has not seen Dilwale or BM till now . Both the movies have 3 weeks to do business as Wazir will release on 8th Jan .
Srk has done same crappy film like mhn,oso,ce,hny & now dilwale. But im shocked it took such long for people to understand that. Srk is nothng without yrf & dharma. He need big directors to get hit film. He has done the crappiest film with Rohit Shetty & Farah khan. He is star created by media & stayed in news bcoz of his numerous controversies. For all these years he is making fool of his fans but I know khan fans r not ready to digest the truth. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol-starrer “Dilwale” has stormed the international box office charts with the film earning USD 3.4 million on its opening day.
The Rohit Shetty-directed film, which brings back the iconic pairing of SRK-Kajol after five years, has registered biggest ever opening for any Bollywood film in UAE and is running to packed housed over the weekend, said a release from Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment.
“Dilwale” has raced ahead of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, which released this week in Dubai and is credited as one of the most popular Hollywood franchises ever.
Similar response has been echoed in UK, US and other parts of the world.
The action drama has become the year’s biggest ever opener for Bollywood films in UK.
It has entered the UK Top 10 Box Office Charts at No 2 position, a feat rarely achieved by Hindi films.
In the US, people have poured in large numbers to watch SRK-Kajol reunite on screen and “Dilwale” has secured the 9th position in the US box office charts.
In Malaysia, “Dilwale” has registered the biggest ever opening for any Hindi film.
The film has secured the No 2 spot in New Zealand box office charts and in Australia, “Dilwale” has not only become the biggest opener of 2015, but also the biggest ever for SRK starrers.
“Dilwale” has so far collected Rs 41.09 crore in India.
