Dilwale Music Review

It won’t be an exaggeration to say that soundtracks of almost all films starring Shah Rukh Khan since ‘Om Shanti Om’ have been rather underwhelming. One could argue that the music of ‘My Name Is Khan’ and ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ went well with the theme or that the songs of Ra.One and Chennai Express were immensely popular. But think deep and one would agree that the consistency has been missing. So, when the credit list reads Shah Rukh – Kajol, the excitement levels break the roof. It gets all the more better when its Pritam who’s the captain of the ship as far as music is concerned.

Yes, the music of arguably the biggest release of the year is out and after multiple hearings of all songs, here’s what we think about the soundtrack of Rohit Shetty’s ‘Dilwale’.

Gerua: No SRK-Kajol song has been an ordinary melody! In an interview, Pritam himself declared that he had sleepless nights when he was informed that Kajol had been paired opposite SRK in the film. He had a not-so-simple task in hand: to recreate the magic of this legendary pair and come up with a quintessential SRK-Kajol song. And boy, hasn’t he done an incredible job. It’s a case of ‘love at first listen’ with ‘Gerua’, courtesy a soothing composition filled with a traditional setting (except for the opening 20 seconds that are misfit and strange). The flute in the beginning takes your heart away while Arijit, who has perfected the art of rendering romantic numbers, only ends up raising the bar with Gerua. We bet this one will stay in your playlist for long! Rating – 4.5/5

Manma Emotion Jaage: Moods change as SRK-Kajol make way for the younger pair Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. And as expected, the beats become faster and the mood contemporary! While there is nothing extra ordinary in ‘Manma Emotion Jaage’, it is a kind of song that may not appeal initially, but grows after it is repeatedly played on music channels, stations and parties. A word for Amit Mishra, he infuses palpable energy to this otherwise regular track. Rating – 3/5

Janam Janam: Arijit returns! And while ‘Gerua’ was a celebration of love, ‘Janam Janam’ is intense and melancholy. The result isn’t any different though. Arijit’s voice is at his raw best and you can’t help but fall in love with the way he escalates the tempo in the tune. ‘Meri subah ho tum hi aur tum hi sham ho’, will be stuck on your mind and although you take time to adjust to Antara Mitra’s voice, the fact that you end up liking it means she has done a praiseworthy job. ‘Janam Janam’ is another instant winner all the way. Second chartbuster out of three! Rating – 4.5/5

Premika: Face lights up as we see these two names on the screen- Benny Dayal and Kanika Kapoor. And the way ‘Tu Hai Meri Premika’ begins is equally interesting. You wonder what’s in store till the beats race up and Benny’s peppy voice fills your ears. Arguably a better party number than ‘Manma Emotion’, Premika’s catch line is sure to be on everyone’s lips. It’s a song that could work wonders after its video is out. And assuming that it would be picturized on the ever-so-energetic Varun, we just can’t wait to see the results. This one has all the potential to be a rage among the youth. Rating: 3.5/5

Tukur Tukur: After a set pattern, here comes the most hatke track of the album. How much you like ‘Tukur Tukur’ would totally depend on what kind of music are you in the mood for. Helmed by Arijit Singh once again, it is a fun number all the way. And considering, it will be filmed on the entire cast and may be the song that would light up the end credits, ‘Tukur Tukur’ may rely on visual appeal to get noticed amongst this star studded album. It’s fun and chirpy, all it requires is to be complemented well on screen. It transports us into the beats and sounds of Goa immediately. Rating: 4/5

Daayre: Most albums list their weaker tracks at the end but the story is reverse here. The star of the album, Arijit weaves magic through his voice once again. ‘Daayre’ is a mesmeric number that would transport you to another world. Themed around differences between a couple and why they occur, this would probably work wonders whenever it plays in the film. A fantastic composition by Pritam that gives this album a fitting finale! Rating: 4/5

Theme of Dilwale: Album abhi baaki hai..! Like has been the tradition in the recent times, Dilwale soundtrack ends with a mash-up of sorts by DJ Chetas with an interesting cocktail of all songs. Because the album is consistently hummable, you can give this one a chance.

And our long wait is finally over! Pritam finally gifts us with a soundtrack that matches the expectations from an SRK film. There isn’t a single song that sticks out like a sore thumb. While romance rules the proceedings, oodles of fun and pep have also been loaded in abundance! A big thumbs up to the music of Dilwale.

Rating: ★★★★☆

Favourites: Rang De Tu Mohe Gerua, Janam Janam, Premika, Daayre.

Songs are an important part of Bollywood films. Not only do they help in increasing the pre-release buzz, but they also increase the repeat-value at smaller centres if the film is liked. It’s even more important when two big films are scheduled to release on the same day.

  • I have respect for Srk,but I admit that I’m not a fan.But even as a common listener and viewer,I feel that Janam Janam Is superb! The song is really good, and Srk and Kajol look great!Best of luck to all Srkans for Dilwale!

  • I don’t know why are you saying that, SRK hasn’t given great music albums in recent years. I listen Jab Tak Hai Jaan all songs very often. Except Jiya Re, all other songs are too much favorite to me. And I still listen Bhare Naina song from Ra.One. Classic musterpiece. Jab Tak Hai Jaan album is the best music album of this decade for me.
Coming to Dilwale music, I did not like Premika song. All other songs are very good. My favorite: Daayre.
And one thing: look out for female part in the song Manma Imotion Jaage. Audio and video are stunning with female voice and Kriti. Best part of the song.

  • All songs are superb and I really can’t arrange them in any orde. Dilwale album is best music album of the year and arguably one of the best music album of recent times.

@02:02 am : Another chameleon. I’m seriously fed up with these chameleons. You moron, neither SRK nor his fans are insecure. Go and see any press release/music launch etc related to Dilwale. SRK will always keep Kajol, Kriti and Varun at front. This is the sign of a secure actor. Isn’t it?
But just because Varun’s song is there, we can’t ignore the chest buster songs of the album – gerua and janam janam.
And BTW chameleon, where were you in these days? All of sudden, you started using Varun’s name to spread negativity???

  • I think many didnt like Tukar Tukar, but yar I really enjoyed it.Only daarye was disappointment for me.It was little boring.Janam janam>Gerua=Tukar Tukar>Manama Emotion=Preemika…Overall loved the album

  • Superb Album. I don’t agree when someone says SRK’s movies didn’t have good music in the recent past. In the last 8-9 years every movie of SRK had a different genre. RNBDJ, MNIK, RA.ONE, JTHJ, D2, CE, HNY all have different genres. The music depends on the genre. Else we have just witnessed an album which is so slow that it doesn’t suit a warrior’s biopic. That is the other case though. I agree with @Indicine that this is arguably the best album of SRK so far in the recent past.
Biggest plus of Dilwale Music is no Vishal-Shekhar. I hate Vishal. Pritam has been in his career best form.
    Song-wise review:
GERUA: One of the most romantic song in the Bollywood history. Like many I too found the starting 20 seconds was a bit odd but I think the picturization would be like SRK coming on that Orange Bike and Kajol waiting for him. For me 100* is not enough for this song.
Manma Emotion: I just love this track. I heard the song earlier in a leaked version and the song is a slow poison. The video is a plus point. Varun’s dance steps are too good. 4* can easily be given.
Janam Janam: simply the best love song of this album. Arijit and Antara just mesmerised me right from the first listen. A Haunting-Melody. I’m confused 1000* would be too less.
PREMIKA: Its only the second dance no. this year which got a place in my playlist. First was selfie le le. Premika quite possibly will make u dance right from the word go. 4* from me.
Tukur Tukur: A bit average only for those who aren’t fans of 90s party no. The song is superb and has potential to become a perfect party no. I am just waiting to see its picturisation especially the dance steps on Tukur Tukur. One might need to listen to it more than twice. 4* from me.
Daayre: The simplest song of Dilwale. And a heart touching song. Another slow poison. The song is slow paced but Arijit’s magical voice hits the deepest chord of your Heart. 5* from me. Bas Picturisation SRK pe ho.
Dilwale Theme by DJ Chetas: My fav. From this album. It has everything sad part, romantic part, dancing part. And Arijit again deserves kudos.

For me THE BEST ROMANTIC-FUN ALBUM OF THE YEAR.
    Average rating: 4.5*

Pros: Everything but biggest were Gerua, Janam Janam, Daayre, Theme, Premika.
Cons: SRK haters are the Biggest cons for this entire world.. #Dilwale

  • @indicine what di you mean after OSO almost all srk films had underwhelming album? Haven’t you heard a single song from rab ne bana di Jodi? It had one of the best albums of 2008 and almost all songs from that film were melodious and lovable. Please check your facts. Also jab tak hai jaan had some great melodious songs. The only disappointment were happy new year’s album and my name is khan album. While don 2 didnt have a single song and Ra.one and CE had mixed album. But yes, dilwale has best album after ran ne banadi Jodi.

  • Gerua is a visual treat with beautiful lyrics. The start of the song gives u goosebumps with the playing of flute. It reminds u of titanic heart-touching tune. The playing of flute is just wonderful.@indicine i dont agree tht its a misfit.I’ll give 4.5* to gerua.
Manma Emotion is a song full of energy. It is surely a chartbuster song. The youth r just loving it.This
my favourite one. Also the dance step by varun is magnificent. Its s a very catchy song.I will give 4.25* as a youth.Otherwise 3.75* as its nt appealing to ppl of other age groups.
Next one is Janam Janam. It is a song with heart-touching lyrics. The chemistry between srkajol in this song will make u fall in love. Its all the theme of dilwale when both meet.4.5* to this mindblowing song.
Other songs i hv nt listened. So I’ll review them later. This was a strict review of music of dilwale.Otherwise if neglected small cons then one can give 4.75* to this music.
Overall dilwale music is a chartbuster.

  • I wanna give 4.5 stars to dilwale.it’s the best SRK movie album of the decade even better than OSO.I am really happy how the movie has been shaped up so far.13 days to go.

  • Its obvious that @indicine favourite number is 4.. they always give 4 stars for every crap music or Movie review for example they give 4 stars HNY which was the worst movie last year and guess what they gave lesss than 3.5 classic movies like BB, PK and Ram leela so we expect that Varunwala will be rated 4 stars by @indicine.

  • Pritam himself declared that he had sleepless nights when he was informed that Kajol had been paired opposite SRK in the film.
I guess the sentence clarify d importance of kajol.. SRK is overrated for sure always depended on kajol & deepika

  • geruaaaaaa for me it is very addictive song i loveeee gerua,,,,,,,janam janam is not different it is the soulful song……cant wait for the movie coming this crishtmas……D I L W A L E ………BRING IT ON BABYYYYY????????

  • I have listend 3 songs janam janam, gerua and manma emotion but manma emotion is bad song but janam janam and gerua rocks 2,best songs of the year

  • But wait a minute ,
this album is missing the loongichap dance ..no chartbuster songs in this whole album..
This are just a decent songs ,its arijit singh voice which make songs a good one to hear else you know this will vanish in some days ..

  • Best Album of the year and also best album for any Rohit Shetty Movie…

    Hatts of to Pritam. ..
    DILWALE ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER

  • @VarunDvn Fan:

I;m the biggest Varun fan you could find, but I completely disagree with what you’re saying. Yes Manma Emotion is great but all the songs are. We don’t have to drag any of them down. It has warmed my heart to see how much respect Shahrukh and his fans are showing to Varun and his fans. Varun himself is so respectful to Shahrukh and as a fan I’m so proud of him for that. Both Dilwale brothers get along so well. It’s not a competition, please show some respect. Varun wouldn’t like such comments

  • let this christmas storm come, it will blow away the towels of all auto waalas and they all towel walas will pray to god that BM gets positive reviews, because if it gets negative review than nothing can stop the hurricane called dilwale to shatter all records and towel waalas who are barking about HGOTY will get a tight slap. but i still think that dilwale will easily break prdp in a week or so with clash, and kick’s lifetime record will also be gone within 10-13 days because it has all time superstar and king of indian cinema not some 2011 born actor who struggles entire last decade for a simple hit.

  • Outstanding – After a Long An Album which have Everything for Everyone – All are Chartbuster

    Best Album of the Year

    My Favourite Order:

    1. Gerua
    2. Janam Janam
    3. Daayre
    4. Premika
    5. Manma Emotion
    6. Tukur Tukur

  • 1. Gerua 5/5
