Dilwale Movie Review

Dilwale is without doubt the biggest film of the year. The star cast comprises of some of the biggest names in the industry – Shah Rukh Khan, the king of romance, a man who continues to be a top superstar even after 24 years in the industry. He reunites with his iconic leading lady, Kajol. The film also has the industry’s rising star, Varun Dhawan and the beautiful Kriti Sanon. Dilwale is directed by Rohit Shetty, who has established himself as one of the most popular filmmakers in the country. The man behind hugely successful films like the Golmaal series, Singham series and Chennai Express. Has Team Dilwale succeeded in delivering a good film? Let’s find out.

Story: We do not want to reveal the plot here, because there are plenty of twists and turns in Dilwale. Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Mira (Kajol) fall in love, but circumstances separate them. Years later, the two meet again. Raj’s brother Veer (Varun Dhawan) is a mechanic, he falls in love with Ishita (Kriti Sanon) and wants to marry her, but Ishita’s sister is against their marriage. Meanwhile, local gangster King (Boman Irani) has a challenger to his local supremacy in the mysterious but powerful Kaali.

Review: Dilwale is a film that is designed to please every section of the audience. It was evident from the promos that the film has romance, comedy, action and emotion.. but by the time the closing credits roll, Dilwale ends up offering a lot more than it promised. It’s not only an entertaining film, but a celebration of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. For fans who love the on-screen jodi, it simply cannot get better than Dilwale. The chemistry that they share in Dilwale is their best since Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

The first half is fast-paced, the action sequences are terrific and Shetty’s trademark car stunts have received a massive upgrade. A crispier and shorter second half would have enhanced the impact of Dilwale, as the film stagnates after the interval. The music composed by Pritam is arguably the best of 2015. Gerua is a visual treat, Janam Janam is beautifully picturised. The background score is good.

There was tremendous speculation around the length of Varun Dhawan’s role in Dilwale. There were reports that he had a meatier role than Shah Rukh in the film, which is absolute rubbish. Diwale is a SRK – Kajol film from start to finish. Varun has very little to do in the first half, but gets plenty of screen time in the second.

Scenes that we liked in Dilwale:

  • Shah Rukh Khan’s Dabangg inspired action scene in the first half of Diwale.
  • The flashback sequence where SRK woos Kajol and the chemistry that they rekindle on screen will win you over once again. Sure, Shah Rukh looks way older than his flashback character, his makeup and that weird lipstick, looks odd at times.. but when it comes to on-screen romance in a Bollywood film, it simply cannot get better than Shah Rukh Khan. He conveys so much just through his eyes.
  • Kajol is terrific in the important twist that takes place mid-way through the film.
  • The comedy scene in the second half between Johnny Lever, Varun Dhawan, Varun Sharma and Boman Irani is howlarious.
  • The last 20 odd minutes will make you laugh and cry. It has a bit of everything.
  • There are some small but sweet moments in Dilwale that are intended to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Varun’s tribute to Shah Rukh, the iconic ‘Bade Bade Deshon Mein’ dialogue.

Acting: Shah Rukh Khan is outstanding in Dilwale. Romance is his forte, but he also excels in action. Kajol is terrific, no other actress could have done justice to the role. In fact, Dilwale wouldn’t work without SRK – Kajol. Varun Dhawan has a funny role to play, he does well. Kriti Sanon looks pretty, she has very little to do in the film. Varun Sharma is fantastic. Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra and Boman Irani are exceptional with their comic timing. It’s good to see Johnny Lever in a big film like Dilwale. Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi have a couple of small scenes, they enact their parts well.

Overall, Dilwale belongs to Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. It’s a ‘love wins against all odds’ kind of film, with a bit of comedy and action. A perfect family entertainer and the most entertaining action-romantic film of Rohit Shetty’s career. The story is not designed to make sense, but unlike most of his other films, Rohit does have a story to tell here.

Positives:

  • Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. If you love them and their films, stop reading and book your tickets.
  • Masses will love the action, both adults and kids will like the car stunts
  • Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra excel in their roles
  • Good music
  • Visual treat
  • Family entertainer
  • Production design

Negatives:

  • Comedy doesn’t always work
  • Pace dips in the second half

Rating: ★★★★☆

  • ???? means another Crappiest film

    just like

    crap HNY …. ????
    crap PRDP … ????

    and now

    crap Dilwale … ????

  • Actually it makes sense that only few sites like indicine have given 4 star reviews to dilwaale,,,,,coz the makers would show the highest rated reviews in newspaper ads the next day…which would mean publicity and bragging rights obtained in a slimy manner.

  • That’s mean it’s a 3 star film. Indicine always give extra star to SRK. No story, story doesn’t make sense. Got it, I am skipping this film and going to watch BM

  • DILWALE movie review

This movie is well balance of Action,Romance,Dramas(thriller),comedy,FAMILY DRAMA emotions.

In the 1st half ,It was the past of KING KHAN as disguise name RAJ(Real name is Kali) appears of HIS sufferings.and after that HIS donation to Jonny lever even if stelaimg HIS things in the name of his brother shows THE LOVE for HIS brother Varun as Veer.

And Varun Dhawan is simply outstanding at His comic timing along with Varun Sharma.

Kali (KING KHAN) was actually the role of a mafia and never let this thing to be known by his brother Veer.for the reason why He opened garage and worked there all those years.the story continues As KALI’S ACTION tells how stronger character actually HE played.

And KAJOL as Meera played much unbelievable roles .She betrayed Her relationship with Meera due to the rivalry of Fathers of both Kali(KING KHAN) and Meera.

And seeing towards the story has so many unexpected twists and drama that will blow your mind.and the 2nd half contains more comedy.Jonny Lever and Sanjay Mishra just also gave outstanding contribution with others.

It’s the film that shows the Real Value of family and relationship.through out the film you’ll never feel bore and This is the film that can entertain you so much.

In fact THE BIGGEST ENTERTAINING FILM OF THIS YEAR.

    My Rating—-4/5….

  • DILWALE REVIEW :

Dilwale, the name itself speaks of love, is one of the biggest love story in Bollywood industry. Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon are playing the lead roles in the movie with a perfect couple match. No wonder that Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan are the best couple of all time in Indian cinemas, whether it is Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge or Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, they have been the most praised couples in the screens. The same is expected from the movie Dilwale. In addition, there is a new couple in the film that reveals the entry of Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. The audio and video songs of Dilwale has already gained a lot of popularity in Bollywood Top Charts and is loved by most of the people. The songs like “Manma Emotion Jaage” and “Gerua” are trending in most of the playlists and is supposed to create a positive impact on the audience. The locations in the movie are awesome and the audience will fall in love with the romantic places that are shooted in the film. The place has added another layer of romance and aroma in the film. The direction by Shetty is awesome, to put it simply. His vision and the scale of the film is insurmountable by any other entertainer in this genre. There are no compromises on budgets and it reflects on the film. Kajol is the key attraction of the film, she is looking damn beautiful in the whole movie. Her dressing style and decent fashion tips will make the teens her fan. Shah Rukh can also can’t be rated anything below Kajol and his outstanding performance in the movie has created a bond between the film and the viewers. There is another youth couple in the film, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, which will be loved by teenagers. They both have maintained the young generation thing in the movie, if you are among the one that thinks Kajol and Shah Rukh can not represent the youth audience, then Varun and Kriti are there for you. The comedy element in the film is its strength. With top notch performances from the likes of Varun Sharma, Boman Irani, Sanjay Mishra and Johnny Lever, you will definitely laugh out loud every time they are on screen. A special applause has to be reserved for them, as they lift up he film, the moment you feel it might lag. Overall the star casts and their role play is perfect in the movie and we can rate them close to 4.5 star. When it comes to the story line, Dilwale is a perfect romantic and love story with a pinch of action and humor. The film has been directed by Rohit Shetty and he has given a perfect example of a blockbuster movie. Yes, Dilwale will be a blockbuster hit of this year. All in all, Dilwale was a great joyride with plenty to watch out for. Superb music. Stunning action. Unbelievable landscapes. Energetic youth in the form of Varun-Kriti. And of course, the enigmatic SRK-Kajol! Each of these elements can make you want to watch the film by themselves. And when put together, Dilwale is the great entertaining result! The film ends on a high note with Tukur Tukur, a song that you will keep singing to yourself long after the film is done. Watch it, as by Rohit Shetty’s standards, it’s his most complete and entertaining film! i Loved Dilwale And You Will Too! I can’t wait to list the things I loved about Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale. 1) SRK-Kajol No one needs to justify this point. It was so refreshing to see these two in a love-hate relationship. Both of them did a brilliant job once again! 2) Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. Varun and Kriti shared a great chemistry. They are not overshadowed by the SRK and Kajol factor; in fact, these two hold their ground and impress you with their screen presence. 3) The locations Okay first, the locations in the movie are breathtaking. From Goa to Bulgaria to all things that were Gerua (yes, it was real!); Rohit knows how to make his locations stand out! 4) Sanjay Mishra This man deserves a standing ovation. Every time he came on screen, I just couldn’t control my laughter. He was HILARIOUS! 5) Rest of the cast One of the best things about Dilwale is the supporting cast. This super entertaining bunch consists of Boman Irani, Varun Sharma, and Johnny Lever. 6) Just the right songs The songs of this movie were already resonating in our heads, now they will be stuck in them for longer. The songs are so perfect. From my personal favourite Gerua to Manma Emotion Jaage songs are one of the biggest plus points of Dilwale. 7) The action It’s a Rohit Shetty movie, so obviously there is going to be a lot of action.Yes, there are cars flying, bullets flying, people flying, dupattas flying (oh wait, that’s Gerua). Anyway, there is just the right amount of everything in this movie! 8) The storyline I, honestly have so much appreciation for a director like Rohit. He knows exactly what the audience wants and he gives it to them. Dilwale has the power to make you laugh, cry and keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s all-in-one! 9) One for everyone Dilwale is a family movie yeah, the one that you watch with mummy, daddy, Sonu, Monu and everybody else. There is something for everyone here.. Dilwale is a complete package that audience are waiting for long. It will definitely a hit in terms of entertainment and business.

  • See haters who threatened to boycott

Its soo obvious yu guys didn’t even step outside ur house
    Lolz

  • Dilwale Movie Review: A Timepass Movie, One Time Watchable
    By Anand_The Original

Just finished watching Dilwale as a SRKian provided us free tickets.
First of all, the story has nothing new. It is a usual Bollywood story of Children from two rival gangs falling in love with each other.
Vinod Khanna played a gang leader and his rival is Kabir Bedi. SRK is an adopted son of Vinod Khanna, while Varun is his real son.
And Kajor and Kriti played the daughters of Kabir Bedi.
SRK and Kajor fell in love. However, Kabir Bedi decieved Vinod Khanna after inviting him to his house for the marriage talks of SRK Kajol.
In the gang figting broke out while Vinodand SRK go to Kabir and Kajol’s house, Kabir and Vinod killed each other.. However, Kajol mistook SRK of killing her father and she shot at SRK.
However, SRK didnt die but SRK and Kajol become estranged and parted ways. And they left the underworld and devoted their lives to take care of their respective siblings..
And Varun and Kriti met up as they grew up and fall in love with each other. But Kajol and SRK didnt agree because of their past lives…Some drama followed.
At the end, Varun and Kriti.. and SRK and Kajol would marry each other..

It’s a typical Bollywood and Rohit Shetty film. Its not as bad as HNY but not as good as CE. A strictly one-time watch…

Action scenes were kick-ass, comic moments sometimes really clicked and sometimes it didnt work.
Varun over-acted. SRK and Kajol Chemistry worked really well.
However, many romantic scenes beween them give de-javu moments of DDLJ. It would be better off for them if they had directly cut the scenes from DDLJ and pasted in the film.
Gerua and Janam Janam songs are awesome and suited the scenarios in the film very well.
The film drags and loses tempo in the 2nd half. It becomes really boring sometimes.

If you go into theatres expecting a mastepiece, you will surely disappoint. Go to the theatre thinking it will be a typical Rohit Shetty film.

My rating of the film: 2**/5*****

  • For giving 4 stars u need to applaud the story, editing nd dialogues atleast but u only appreciated actors ,visuals ,music, production design . How can u give it 4 stars?

  • Every haters are giving false information. Big big slap on their face. Dilwale wom super strong. Bajirao disappoint, haha

  • @Indicine : agree with your review.

My Dilwale review is here :

Finished. The most entertaining movie of the year by a distance. This exceeded all my expectations by miles. Dilwale is going to rule.

High points: SRK’s Bulgarian entry. SRK & Kajol’s HIMYM inspired date. Car sequences. Varun’s SRK style proposal scene. Gerua.

Dilwale is full of classic SRK Kajol moments with right amount of action, humour & drama. Ypu will fall in love with SRKajol all over again.

Interval. Gripping, entertaining & full of edge of the seat moments so far. SRK & Kajol owns the first half. They look so hot.

The brotherly bond between SRK & Varun is the biggest highlight of the second half. It was humorous in first half but gets emotional later..

High points of second half: Fight sequence of SRK right after interval. Picturization of Daayre. Reunion of SRK Kajol after 15 years.

Varun Dhawan is totally adorable in the movie. He is funny, charming, lovable right from the beginning till the end..

Kriti is so gorgeous & does her part well. Johnny Lever & Sanjay Mishra stand out in supporting cast. Varun Sharma & Boman Irani are okay.

Whatever Dilwale earns this weekend is a bonus for us. The real audience for it will come from the next week vacations. Great repeat value..

I always thought Rohit can never outdo himself & make a better film than Golmaal again but Dilwale proves it wrong. A complete entertainer.

Best Dilwale moment was actually during interval when a boy from BM screening asked me if there’re empty seats in audi if he wants to come.

Btw I was surprised to see a better response to Janam Janam than Gerua & Tukur. The whole auditorium kept shouting throughout the song.

If you love commercial entertainers, you can’t dislike Dilwale unless you went with premeditated mind to hate it. Full of whistling moments .
