Times Of India reports that the ‘makers and stake holders’ of Chennai Express requested Jeetendra to ‘reconsider’ the release date of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again in the interest of both films.
OUATIMA vs Chennai Express Clash Averted
It was then that the yesteryear actor spoke to the Balaji team, headed by his daughter Ekta Kapoor, to do the needful to avert the Eid clash.
There are also reports that, Chennai Express director Rohit Shetty and Akshay Kumar had a friendly discussion on the release date of their respective films, on the sets of Akshay’s upcoming film ‘It’s Entertainment’.
While the reports are unconfirmed, it looks like someone from SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment or UTV Motion Pictures sent a request to Jeetendra, and the sensible decision on averting the clash was taken.

Worry less about what I do, which coincidentally is to try and lift the low levels of energy and enthusiasm on Srks pages and worry more about trying to get a ticket to board Chennai Depress this Eid. This time you wont have any excuses like:- “Oh sorry General xzone, I couldnt get a ticket to watch JTHJ because there was a clash, no spare screens, cold vibes from critics, heat wave etc etc”

its a gud news… as both movies will gain profi by this …but balaji plays smart coz…if they release on 8th then it will clash for both though they does have 2 wks but clash will be continue..now they postpone thats means…CE does have solo release but in 2 wk their screen space will less that means less chance to score on 2nd wk even review is gud…but OUATIMA gets solo release n more screen space then when they get clash…n even 2nd wk will be handly…as Satyagraha will cutoff screen space for OUATIMA in 2nd wk…bt it will be less compare to CE….
This is a good decision by both the parties. As a fan of SRK and Akshay it’s a great news for me. But I wanted to see the clash as a fan of Cinema, just for the excitement nothing serious. My best wishes is with both the films.

known that Karan Johar is Ekta Kapoor’s well-wisher and a close friend. So it comes as no surprise that he was the motivating factor behind her decision to postpone Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again to August 15 from an Eid release. The film stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha and is directed by Milan Luthria.
Says a source, “Last week Shah Rukh called up Jeetendra, and requested him to postpone the release of OUATIMA as it was clashing with his own production Chennai Express. He told Jeetu that the film would eat into each others business and benefit none. So Jeetuji promised SRK that they would postpone their release. It was a purely a business decision, Ekta herself was still was not convinced about it, or happy about the decision. She felt it was unfair to ask her to back out when she was the first one to announce her film on that date when she learnt that Salman Khan would not be releasing his film on Eid day. She was hesitant to back-off and finally it was her close buddy Karan Johar who made her see reason.”
It was the filmmaker’s late night-visit to Ekta’s office on Tuesday that finally changed her mind. “Karan has always been Ekta’s genuine well-wisher and didn’t want her film to suffer in any way. He told her not to be foolish and make the mistake of releasing her film on the same day. It was an emotionally tough decision for Ekta but she finally accepted the fact that business-wise it was a more practical decision to postpone OUATIMA and release it on August 15.”

So, SRK used his brahmastra – Karan Johar.
KJO talked and made Ekta agree for august 15th date.
Good for both, but Ekta was damn upset as she was the one who booked the date first.
Now Ekta has to use the best promotions for OUATIMA, so that in case CE doesn’t live up to the hype, viewers have a choice the very next week.
Also, it would be better if Imran Khan is kept out of the picture and focus only on Akshay.

Balaji Motion Pictures’ romantic drama Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara which was earlier slotted for an Eid release, along side Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express will now release on Thursday, August 15, 2013 (Independence Day). It is learnt that Shah Rukh Khan spoke to Mr. Jeetendra and a meeting was held between Mr. Jeetendra, UTV and Shah Rukh Khan to resolve the situation of both the movies releasing together, and find a win-win situation for all.
“Keeping in mind that both weekends (8th Aug and 15th Aug) are good times for film releases, Jeetendra sir being the senior most showed the path. He took the decision to move Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara to August 15. This is extremely graceful of him. UTV, Rohit and I are very happy with the decision made and we thank Jeetu sir and Balaji for the same. This should pave the way for such mature and sensible amicable understandings whenever two films release on the same day in future too,” says Shah Rukh Khan.
“My father and Shah Rukh spoke and have clearly worked out what is best for both the films. Both are big and keenly awaited films and should not be made to eat into each other’s business. I have huge respect for SRK and wish him the best,” says Ekta Kapoor.
Chennai Express will now release on Aug 8 while Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobara will release on Aug 15.
