  • Dhoom 3 creates dhoom all over the world .. The name is enough Mr. Perfectionist. Why only srk fans are so jeleous about others actors success …? Their so called king promotes every time movie a year ago …from last 5 years everytime fails to get biggest hit of the year. Ha ha ha poor srk and his fans .

  • I just saw HNY poster.
What a crap poster that was. At least get a handsome actor in the centre of the poster…not that ugly old man who is in the centre.

  • after 70 days ce record has been broken by k3.
after 45 days k3 record has been broken by d3.
after 30 days d3 record will be broken by jai ho.
but jai ho record will remain safe untill kick.

  • @sakhi…generally i don’t care about comments here…but u seem to be completely burnt…bt why??when srk was on top we aamirians never degraded him…then why u srkians go nuts when aamir khan overtakes him…n u r criticizing dhoom 3 as if chennai express was the best and flawless movie with brilliant acting ??is that really what u think??u r really depressed…u need to relax …take a deep breath and do some kapalbhati…u will feel better…

  • @zeeshan if you bring Srk solely reason than please come with actual collection, there were no bad phase in Srk career if that was than his bad movies can’t be success though they were not meet expectation that’s why. They got those collection, and Rohit highest grosser was 107cr golmaal3 before ce,and that released in 2010 he joined 100cr club before srk,his next two movies Singham 97cr and Bol bachchan 104cr, both were release in july and normal weekend, srk highest grosser was 115cr ra1 and you called success which is doubtful but because trade given so we have to admit. But it happene first time when a movie called a hit without collection equal to its cost, that also first given by Boi,you srk fans bashing boi if it ce collection not matched with officials but easily accepted a film which was completely a loser termed hit by same site,we not saying that don’t give credit to srk for ce success but you forget to mention Rohit whose entertaining direction provide that feet to srk too. Btw d3 rocks

  • @SAKHI, you are just burning of jealousy because srk had to wait for 5 years to break aamir’s records, but aamir broke srk’s records within 4 months that too by more than 50 cr. LOL. and who’s the global star now?

  • @zeeshan you are simply proving my comment for srk fans that is 2+2=5, thanx at least you made me a mathacian who given a formula to some srkian keep it up, you some how degrading Aamir hits these are 11, and we know Srk made proud to India with Maya memsaab,koyla,ra1,anjaam,asokaetc. Congrats dear srk rocks but Aamir still rocks with less hits.

  • ALL AKKIANS
Akshay Kumar’s ‘Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’ to release on 1 May 2014. There’s an 8-month gap between Akshay’s #Boss and this one.

  • Aamir said that he want audience love not records but he got just the opposite. Dhoom 2 did wonders in India and overseas, in 2006, that too being a bad film. Dhoom 3 repeats just the same. Now next Dhoom could be with Salman or Sharukh., probably Salman. Since content doesnt matter for Dhoom brand so I guess if Salman in Dhoom 4 results 400 crs in iIndia and 200 crs in overseas. If Sharukh in Dhoom 4 then 450 crs in India and god know what could happens in overseas may be 300 crs.

  • 40cr still left to cross 300crs…
It will be very interesting to see if it reaches there coz at this pace now it will struggle to reach…
By the 3 ATBB in one year is a big thing…

  • @yash you are continuesly saying that Boi stored Srk to have a highest grosser in 2007, but you never have objection how they give verdict to Ra1 a hit, tell me how a movie of budget of 135cr become hit with collection of 115cr, and please not say that because it was 3rd highest grosser of the year so it should be hit,srk spend 135cr in Ra1 simply keep in mind that it will join 200cr that’s why it can be a hit and he get profit by theatrical run,a movie which made distributer in Red and termed a hit.isn’t a big joke, please see both side of coin,in 2007 there were limited source so there have chance of mistake and they corrected and everybody took those collection trustworthy,if they were wrong than why not any one from Oso team came to clarify that like Rakesh roshan came to defend K3 collection. I think you should also take in consideration.

  • no film rewrites box office with negative word of mouth……its not possible…….fans of other stars just try to ridicule somebody else’s success……how stupid!! grow up guys…..

  • generally what we have seen many people saying its Dhoom brand that’s y movie collecting and movie goes negative word of mouth, haaha they are joking now, there is no doubt about Dhoom brand bt any band or superstar can work only for first weekend collection after that its wom who decide the faith of any movie, even Aamir said that any actor movie can collect solely on the stardom of actor for first three days after than wom played role, I can’t say that movie was excellent but if you goes through you will see D3 rakes 95cr in first 3 days in Hindi version as per Boi and now collected 242 cr in 15 days, than you can see those 147cr is not a cake walk which can come solely due to brand, the reason is people who liked the movie is more than the people who don’t like and as per trend looking movie will reach to 270cr mark hindi version as per BOI, its only happen when a movie has atleast good wom, so Aamir here clear the test with Distinction marks.

MYTH about Aamir which generally His Haters saying to downgrade him:
    1. He can’t do double role
    2. He can’t do challanged role.
    3. He can’t provide Big opening as his own
    4. He can’t provide D3 success as he was short of height and doesn’t suit on bike.
    5. He can’t do a negative role,
D3 gave the Answer to all of the questions and he already done Negative role in Fanaa which was Superhit and also done Challanged person role in Ghajini.

  • @g.one:really ?then what about crap express? ?it’s most overrated film with a useless storyline. .go and enjoy the overacting of ur srk. .k3 is 10,000 times better than crap express.

  • Thanx to @sem due to him today i found the section of highest grosser each year in boxofficeindia,i came to know one interesting thing which i don’t know that despite having 3 clean hit till 2000 Aamir film gets good opening most of time, despite being clashing with Gadar the opening of Lagaan was good but same year Srk first release Asoka got poor opening in 2001,again his Swades got poor opening, solo release of Srk in 2005 Paheli got poor opening. Just see anytime when srk went to different cinema which is far from commercial cinema,he doesn’t have fan in domestic market who can provide least avg opening to those films,Aamir Mangal pandey got Bumper opening that year, rdb got Above avg. Only exception was Tzp which got poor opening clashing with Welcome because its trailer look like it was children movie,so since Cdi srk got good opening in different cinema, one qest. To srk fans why they can’t give good opening to art film of his despite churning hits regularly, proud that Aamir havefans opened his movie well

  • Ohhh well all I can say to YRF and Aditya Chopra is congrats on making lots of money……………….and like Aamir said to Imran Khan on the success of I Hate Luv Stories is I will said to Aamir: ‘You got lucky bro’. Also PK will bring him back to reality with collections similar to non brand film Talaash.

  • @aeey
Varun Dhawan’s Main tera hero trailer is coming with Jai ho..
Holiday is postponed to May 2014,though eagerly waiting for it..

  • @triple- you an idiot and you got lucky bro as I intend to spend more of my precious time responding to 3 other losers than a troll like you….

Talaash was a better film than Dhoom 3 but never had scope to go universal but 90 cr is a fantastic effort… PK is a Raju/ Aamir film- it will go universal instantly as audience know a super quality film is on the offering here… 300 cr will be crossed as no sane producer will want to release their film within a month of PK… Comprehend that you loser….

  • @sakhi – you were doing se well with your comment until you spouted “my friends were…. Blah blah blah…..”, seriously apart from possibly Rakhi Sawant you got no friends so take your finbing tongue away from here and get ready to bad mouth Jai Ho too when bhai jaan tramples over the wreckage that is Crappy Express for good measure too…! Lol everyone is destroying Thakurs records within 6 months that I wouldnt be surprised if Dedh Ishqiya beats it too…!

Burning so much inside that you can provide heat to a 1000 homes in Thakurs backward thinking kingdom Paglapur…!

  • @nipin – I read you were crying on another page about not being able to respond to me… Dont worry kid Im here and I see you talking sense occasionally and I would say I almost agreed with your viewpoint to ‘G One’. My view is if we use the same calculator papa Roshan used when calculating the Gross Collections of Rohit 3 including not paying Taxes then Rohit 3 is in fact 1234 times better than Crappy Express…! ;-)

Both films were below Dhoom 3 but you 2 losers know that deep down anyway so no point stating the bleeding obvious over n over again I feel.

  • @aaiiyyaa Holiday trailer will not be attached to Jai Ho…

It will be suicidal for Sohail Khan to be associated with a sequel to 2013 disaster film BOSS and prequel of 2012’s flop movie Khiladi 786….! :-P

Just for Aaiiyyaa- Gossip mills report that Holiday will release its trailer with Tusshar Kapoors next movie- producers of Tusshars next film feel that anyone stupid enough to still be watching a Tussshar Kapoor film wont mind watching an Akki comic movie trailer as it will make watching Tusshars movie more bearable….! Win win situation for all…!

  • @sakhi Aamir got open week bcz of his power no body has dare to take the risk to release movie with amir’s mvi even after 2 weeks no stars has dare that’s the power of real superstar but in srk’s case aksay ajay salman ranbir even himesh evryone had released thier mvi with srk so u can think it who has a super stardom power in bollywood… what do u think guys???

  • @ aks new boxoffice india coming soon hope u read that article and i have clearly said there as new boi coming soon wish not happen same with CE what years ago with OSO….let believe in 07 limited sources but what happen in 12 with JTHJ everyone knows…Rakesh roshan defends his data not Boi data…its Fact that boi reduced fig for OSO & JTHJ inform of correcting…its necessary 2 saw the fact 2 every amirfan and no wonder if boi did so with CE in new version

  • srk fans burning with jealousy.. wats new! they r the only fans i know who are jealous of every other actor’s success.. last 5 years are dominated by salman n aamir.. where is the so called global superstar n king of bollywood??? it is a universal fact that CE was a success due to rohit shetty n deepika.. n one another universal fact is that ra.one was a flop.. burn in hell srk fans.. kaha tha na lungi tight kar lo!

  • WHAT IS A HIT?

The box office verdict of a film on this website is based on theatrical business. There are two verdicts, one for the domestic market and one for the international market because this is where the public is paying to watch a film and a film has to be watched to be a hit. Business of different revenue sectors is not put together to give verdict.

In the early late 60’s early 70’s, a big film would fetch a price of around 60 lakhs from all its distributors in India and when the money was recovered the distributor would start to give overflow for the producers after his commission. Hit films at that time could recover a share of 2 crore while blockbusters over 3.50 crore but still prices were so low because it took a long time to recover those low prices. Films had a 20-30 print release and it was staggered release so some places may have a release a year later. Basically a producer recovered or nearly recovered costs by selling his film and then waited for the film to be accepted by the public and the profit would be the overflow which come in time. This was all very low risk and 90% films recovered costs unless the budget was too high and the film faced rejection which would result in losses. Examples of this are Amrapali, Mera Naam Joker and Reshma Aur Shera.

Today the scenario is totally changed as distributors pay a huge premium as its all about two weeks and not years. A films verdict is depended on how well it does theatrically. For big budget films a 4 crore share would mean blockbuster in 1970 and in 1995 it was the 20 crore mark, today (2010) its nearly 50 crore. The trade and media tend to bring prices in to put up a perception and then for another film the price factor goes away as a different perception is being put up. A film can be purchased at a Blockbuster price but may do only Super Hit business so therefore lose money but the fact remains it has done Super Hit theatrical business, just the distributor overpaid. If this film has a good perception with the media then it will called success and if perception is not good then the losses will be talked about. A Ghajini was purchased at a Blockbuster price and managed All Time Blockbuster business and if this film was to be judged on distributor return then it would be an Above Average fare but the level of its theatrical performance is far more important then the huge premium paid by the distributors.

The budgets, deals which go on behind the scenes are very different and have many clauses which are different for each film. It is also difficult to judge a film on budgets as movies like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Three Idiots only have a production budget of 25 crore and 30 crore respectively as there were profit sharing deals with main leads and with director as well for Three Idiots so you can’t put a budget to these films as you can with some others. Also nobody apart from producer and distributor know the exact details of a deal. The one constant for every film is theatrical business be it Domestic or International. Every film has two verdicts one for Indian theatrical and one for International theatrical. Other revenue sources like satellite, music etc can have verdicts but these can’t be based on how what price they fetch as that is like saying a film is a theatrical hit depending on what price it fetches rather than actual performance.

The size of the release basically decides how big a film is, if a film releases on 1000 plus cinemas with 18-20-22 shows at multiplexes then it is regarded as a big film and the mark today (Sept 2010) for blockbuster business is nearly 50 crore distributor share. This does not mean that a film release on 500 cinemas with 9-10-11 shows per multiplex will be a a blockbuster at 25 crore as when a film goes over 500 cinemas then the cinemas become lower earning single screens. A film has to achieve a certain amount per print/cinema it is released on to do Average Hit, Super Hit, etc business. As the releases get bigger the lifetime share marks get bigger. Also some releases get big releases but limited shows at multiplexes and they have to judget accordingly

If we get into prices and budgets against total revenue it allows for what is called a manufactured hit. Many films in India are made at low budgets at 2-3 crore and do bad theatrical business (sometimes zero) but with satellite and DVD rights they sometimes manage to make money which would mean they are success using the profit system.

All verdicts at BoxOfficeIndia.Com are given for the theatrical business judged against the release size which we believe is the best way to judge a success of a film. There is a verdict for Indian theatrical and International theatrical but no Worldwide verdict as it is difficult to judge two markets. A blockbuster in India and Overseas is easy to call but a Blockbuster in India and flop overseas or vice versa is near impossible to call correctly. All films are judged using this system.

The profit/loss system is hugely against films purchased at a premium and hugely in favour of films which are not sold to anyone and so therefore gives a completely incorrect picture of box office success/failure if followed strictly. An example of this is below.

Film A – Budget 40 crore. Producer releases himself with 50 crore investment including P&A. The film brings in 60 crore and the film is called a success.

Film B – Budget 40 crore. Worldwide rights purchased by third party for 90 crore giving third party investment of 100 crore including P&A. The film brings in 85 crore but will be called loser.

As can be seen the more successful film has the lower verdict because one was sold and one was not.

Films like Rocket Singh and Paathshaala had costs of 17 crore and 10 crore respectively and released by the producers so even when they did not find a audience they were still profitable due to low costs and revenue coming in from revenue steams like Satellite and DVD. Films like Kites are at the other end of the spectrum where they need All Time Blockbuster business in India or huge business overseas to get near the prices they were purchased at. But above all it must be remembered that box office has nothing to do with satellite, music, DVD, etc. Box office is all about the public coming to watch a film at a theatre be it in London, Ludhiana or Latur.

  • @aks check @Controversial box office collections of Krrish 3 – Our take!
Jodhaa Akbar is not the only film though. They declared Om Shanti Om as the biggest grosser of all-time at Rs 85.79 crore net. A couple of years later, they deducted more than Rs 6 crore from its total, making it the second highest grosser after Dhoom 2 (Screen captures below). Even the figures of Jab Tak Hai Jaan were reduced by more than 15% when the film was in its third week.

  • 1. BoxofficeIndia.com were the first to release All-India figures, which is probably why they are considered to be a trust-worthy source within the industry and by fans. In fact, a lot of well-known trade analysts use figures released by BOI and claim those numbers to be their own! The 202 crore lifetime figure of 3 Idiots was first released by the trade website, which was universally accepted as ‘actuals’ of the 2009 Rajkumar Hirani blockbuster.

BOI releases daily figures based on collections from a few theatres in various circuits, which is then compared to other films with a similar release size. For example, sample figures of Krrish 3 will be compared to Chennai Express, as both films released on approximately 3700 screens across India. Since they probably have contacts with top distributors, they are also well-aware if a film is under-performing or record-breaking in one or more circuits. In short, around 20-25% of collections are tracked on a daily basis for bigger films, the final total is just a guess estimate which isn’t always very accurate.

Have their figures always been reliable? No, not really. When Hrithik Roshan’s Jodhaa Akbar released, they declared the film a ‘Super-Hit’ with All-India collections of around 63.5 crore net. But on the new version of their website, they’ve reduced the total to Rs 59 crore and also changed the verdict to ‘Semi Hit’. The difference between the two verdicts is huge.
