According to UTV Motion Pictures, Chennai Express has collected Rs 33.12 crore on its opening day at the domestic box office. The Shahrukh Khan starrer has smashed all previous box-office records including the opening day (and highest single day business) record set by Ek Tha Tiger last year during Eid.
The film has collected close to Rs 40 crore, including paid previews on Thursday.
Today (Saturday) is a holiday in most parts of the country, so the drop is unlikely to be as huge as Ek Tha Tiger, which collected Rs 14.52 crore on Day 2 – a drop of 55% from its record opening day.
We expect Chennai Express to collect around Rs 85 crore in its first weekend. The SRK – Deepika Padukone film also has a reasonably good chance to be the fastest film to 100 crore.
Mark my words CE wont cross more than 120 cr..

Indicine Can you please verify that the figure you have mentioned is the Gross or Net figure. Some analysts are giving the Net figure as 29 cr and Gross as 33 cr.

Srk is mr consistent. He deserves the title of king khan, he’s india biggest star since 1995. Salman’s two years aren’t comparable to srk’s entire career.
This is great news! SRK has this level of pull among audiences even in his so called “bad phase”! This is all result of 20 years of consistency and a top notch record in the past since 1992! When other stars have bad phase, their films don’t even get an opening. This is the difference between a true superstar and stars riding on last 5 years’ hits.
Let’s see what lifetime collections CE achieves. If SRK does better films like CDI, then the world knows that sky is the limit for lifetime collections of his films. All the best to CE team.
