Chennai Express has passed the Monday test, as the film was steady all over collecting 12.62 cr at the domestic box office. Major cities had normal drops, while single-screens in smaller centres fell by around 70%. But in today’s time the contribution from single-screens is lesser than 20% even for major films that do well universally, so the Shahrukh Khan starrer remained unaffected on its first weekday.
However, Chennai Express failed to beat the highest non-holiday Monday record, which belongs to Ranbir Kapoor’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs 12.7 cr). Its the first record the film has failed to beat since its release last weekend.
The Rohit Shetty directed film has already collected Rs 113.05 crore in 4 days and is likely to do business of around 133-135 cr in its first 6 days (including paid previews). Chennai Express then has a major competitor in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara, which is scheduled to release in theatres on Independence Day.
It remains to be seen what sort of impact the release of OUATIMD has. The number of shows and screens that the film manages to hold on to, will also decide if it can sustain well enough to cross the 200 crore mark!

As by now it’s clear that CE won’t cross 200 crores, let’s not talk about it breaking 3 idiots record. Now the only one remained is Krishh 3. I hope it will break 3 idiots lifetime collection. It will be a shame to Bollywood if no movies can break 3 idiots collection(before the release of D3) as this movies collected more than 200 crores way back in 2009 and today the business has grown 3 times by today..They again need Aamir khan to break the lifetime record or what??If so it would be clear that Aamir khan is in different league because I know D3 will be easily crossing 200 crores, in fact it will gross more than 300 crores and again we will have to wait for release of P.K to break D 3 records…

hope CE break 3 idiots record. this year is amazing with super huge business coming from ranbir , srk, hrithik and aamir. it’s a shame that salman didn’t had any release. he would have been smashed all records.

There’s nothing more to prove.. Even in his so called lowest phase of his career Srk was constatly giving 100+ movies.. Whereas Salman delivered 7 flops in a row (yuvraj, mr. &mrs khanna , veer , god tussi great ho etc) …. Then SK discovered his mojo by doing masala pot boilers and tasted maximum success domestic (overseas no one could ever challege srk).. Now SRK has done a masala film and the results are for everyone to see.. Beating sallu in his own game … Victory never tasted so sweet.. Even if in coming times Sallu manage to break CE domestic records (I know not going to happen but for argument sake)he will never get near the global collections of CE.. Srk rocks
Earlier in early 90’s Srk was pitted against Aamir and sallu den late nineties with Hrithik and den due to lack of competion Amitabh bachhan.. Den Aamir again followed by Akshay and now Salman. Its for everyone to notice SRk has been the only permanent barometre of comprasion.. Give it to him guys (even the haters) he deserves it .. He’s the supreme one the biggest bollywood will ever have…
Even wen Great Sachin walks in to bat the pressure on him is to score a 100 but with Srk 100cr is not enuff he’s expected to cross the higgest 202 cr (3 idiots) everytime (every release) and with CE he seems to hv broken dem all .. Love u SRK..

@TROOP u r right.It is looking like only Aamir khan will break his own record.He always leads from front and set example for others not only in terms of box office but also in terms of quality of cinema .But even if “Krrish 3” breaks the lifetime collection record of “3 idiots” i will feel happy bcoz i will feel the deserving movie has broken that record and honestly i don’t want “CE” to break that prestigious record.

Chennai express rocks. I have seen it twice and both the times the entire theatre was laughing like crazy. Had a great time watching the movie with my family, would go again with friends to watch it on thursday
