Exactly 20 years ago, on 5th August 1994, a family drama titled ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ released in theatres. The film was slammed by the critics as a ‘wedding video’, but viewers embraced it like no other film in the history of Indian Cinema making it the highest grossing film of all time.
The film earned Rs 137 crore worldwide and contributed immensely in making Bollywood films family friendly. Hum Aapke Hain Koun is also credited for opening up the overseas market for Indian films.
It won five Filmfare Awards as well as the National Film Award for ‘Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment’. It made a lasting impact on wedding celebrations in India, which often include songs and games from the film.

Ironically, the two main men behind the massive success of Hum Aapke Hain Koun, lead star Salman Khan and director Sooraj Barjatya, are currently shooting for their upcoming film ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. The man who introduced Salman to the industry 25 years ago with ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, will be reuniting with the superstar 15 years after ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, in the same year that the actor turns 50!
Sources say, the cast and crew of Hum Aapke Hain Koun have been invited to the sets of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ in Karjat to celebrate 20 years of Hum Aapke Hain Koun.
Earlier today, actor Anupam Kher tweeted “Happy 20th birthday to one of my most successful and cherished films – HUM AAPKE HAI KAUN. Thank you Sooraj for making this classic.”
And guess what? On the same day that Hum Aapke Hain Koun celebrates 20 years, Salman Khan’s latest release ‘Kick’ has joined the 200 crore club, also making it the highest grossing Salman Khan film ever!

@Nipun, don’t assume everyone childish like you. Keep aside Fakefare Awards that didn’t give any award to Sona Ma’am for her splendid performance in Lootera, Dabangg also got National Award for wholesome entertainment. Meanwhile, K3 received national award from jaadoo land.

When did i bash MPK. I haven’t watched it completely.then how can i say that it was great or bad . I haven’t watched many movies of bollywood. Those top 10 were based upon the movies i have watched only.

HAHK is remain special film for me and i think for many too. The kind of hysteria that film created was unmatchable or can only compare with Sholay. I still remember Salman’s iconic suit which he wore in his brothers marriage in the film is become such a trademark and had huge demand in those days. From little boys to Man. Every one had craze for that. My parents bought the same for me as it was my wish. Hahk is special. The iconic Prem-Nisha pair,title track of the film is still one of the best song for me. Congo to the team of Biggest film of bollywood ever HAHK.

srk is aggressive in baazigar yes but only for inocent shilpa. darr ha ha ha sunny is in aggressive mood to beat very badly srk the kameena tharki. swades cdi r love story ha ha ha i havent seen mnik. kal ho naa ho is bad copy of aanand saif preity r awwsome in movie, devdaas again a bad copy of legendary actor dilip kumar’S Devdaas hit due to costly set, cloths actually film was average concideing high budget but srk is master in fake publicity. who is shahrukh a copycat of amitabh and dilip kumar.
