Can Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti recreate the box office magic of KNPH, Maine Pyaar Kiya?

Q: With debutant Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti releasing tomorrow, can any debutant’s film today be the highest grosser of the year like Hrithik Roshan’s Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and Salman Khan’s Maine Pyaar Kiya? – Kshitij Srivastava

A: Absolutely no chance. Even if it carries the best of reports and word-of-mouth, it’ll still struggle to get anywhere close to being the highest grosser of the year. In fact, even getting to the 100 crore mark would be a massive achievement as the opening day is expected to be around 5 crore.

A lot has changed since the days of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and Maine Pyaar Kiya. These days, thanks to the rise of multiplexes and competition from other films, the opening day business decides a film’s fate at the box office. Films like Hasee Toh Phasee, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Highway and many more failed to be huge grossers because the opening was poor. Queen was the only exception, but that film had phenomenally good reports. Heropanti doesn’t look like a film that will do extraordinarily well at multiplexes.

The PR machinery has been in overdrive over the last few weeks, trying to spread positivity around Heropanti. There are also talks that Tiger is going to be the Hrithik Roshan of this decade, but to achieve what Hrithik did in his debut film – not just in terms of box office numbers, but the overall craze and phenomena surrounding him during those days, would not just be incredibly hard for Tiger but any other youngster who makes his debut.

Salman after his debut film was huge too, but the craze for Hrithik was on an altogether different level. Never seen before or after!

  • agree with indicine, but Heropanti will have the best opening day of newcomers, if believed to BOI.
he won’t be a Hr or Salman, but even Ranbir has started his career with a flop, so no one can say anything till the outcome of Heropanti.

I think these lines will shut the mouth of haters who do nothing but bark against Hrithik without any reason. Hrithik was a Superstar right from the start, he is in Top League from the debut itself. He is the only actor to have the complete package of talent, be it acting or dancing or looks or body, he has excelled in all. I don’t see a reason why would anyone hate him? He has not even spoken ill of any other actor in his whole career.

Shame on his haters. Good Luck to Tiger though for his debut! Waiting for BANG BANG!
Thanx indicine for the genuine reply to that question.

  • Proof of the fact every leading media house except indicine has termed dil chahta hai hit-Times of india aug,12,2011,india glitz mar 24 2014,india today march25,2014,telegraphindia aug3,2008,jun8,2012,saif ali khan wikipedia, aamir khan wikipedia, bollywood mantra mar26,2014.

  • HR was the only actor who became a superstar within a night.salman was also popular. But hrithikmania in 2000 was matchless.
Now a days,to become a highest grosser, a film has to have a superstar and hype for it. Heropanti hasn’t impressed me at all. Kriti is pretty.but i found tiger not gud looking and his dialogue delivery and expression aren’t impressive either. Songs are good.but it cud be like diwanapan of arjun rampal.

  • Hrithik mania was so high and similar to what Modi mania is now…Hrithik become household name…

  • Massive respect for dis post @Indicine , Hrithik were createt craze about himself by showing hi phenominal talent and performance which is unbeatable and never seen before as you said….. Even indicine would agree with me at that time almost 90% female audience is fan of just Hrithik, name is inough… And that craze as well boxoffice start success getting today is not easy for any newcomer…
And Salman’s Mpk was rocks and end that decade with biggest grosser by a newcomer… and he beats Amit ji and every big star of that time As well Hrithik did it with His knph and beated evry big star that year and won all each award, hr given phenominal entertainment. that was historical victories in Indian Cinema.. Now it would have no chance to repeat that charishma by any newcomer… Hrithik And Salman Rocked…

  • Indicine,if you still don’t accept your mistake or put a strong logic behind your peculiar verdicts for those films then I will quit this website.

  • Salman fans, yes salman is a bigger start but hrithik created more craze after his debut. salman after MPK had lot of flops.

SRK craze after DDLJ was huge too like Hrithik’s

  • SRK performance in Dewanna was the most exciting debut I have ever seen………………his performance made this movie a hit!

  • @indicine:i have asked a question “krrish 3 vs dhoom 3”. Plz give your answer to this. I am sure that article will attract more visitors. So plz bring a article with my question.

  • Tiger is good. All the best for him.
But comparing with hrithik. …oh no man.
Tiger face so feminine I really not liked.

  • Good reply, as always. I don’t expect it to go past 50 crore, which heavily depends on its opening and positive word-of-mouth publicity. No chance at all of becoming the highest grosser of the year, which means it would need to collect more than 200-250 crores, impossible.
Hope it does good business, I wish it all the best!

  • I will start spreading
negativity about you on facebook to prevent spreading of wrong information about past hits

  • Excuse me, Salman’s craze after MPK was much higher than what Hrithik;s craze was after KHPH. What are you up to Indicine? And yeah I agree Heropanti can not be as big hit as those two films.

  • @Krish lol SaLmaN after mpk 5 successful film in list nd ur hr’s knph after ??? 2003 koi mil gaya… !!!

Even 80% of movie goears doesn’t the full form of #Knph

Go 1989 nd check the craze of SaLmaN then talk …

  • Whenever any actors success
    is compared with Salman
    Khan you get the answer
    why only Salman Khan?
    Because he defines
    bollywood superstardom

  • Hrithik became so popular after KNPH that his next films MK, MDK, Yaadein became epic flops Lol. Fools 244 crore paradise.

  • @ indicine Salman’s debut movie was biwi ho to aisi, not maine pyar kiya, also about the craze which you are mentioning, Rajesh Khanna’s craze was way more than Hritik Roshan so please check the facts before reporting anything.

    • @Puneet, it was only about the post-debut craze. Read the question and the answer again, before you comment! Not talking about the overall career. Khanna’s first few films didn’t work at the box office.

  • LOL @ some Aamir fan ignoring box office portals and trade journals and citing “anyone can edit” Wikipedia and PR resources to call his idol’s films hit!
Spamming even on topics unrelated to him! Height of desperation!

  • @indicine, I know that you were talking about debut movie and accept my mistake but why have you ignored my other comment about salman khan’s debut movie, it was biwi ho to aisi not maine pyar kiya as reported by you, you should also admit your mistake

  • all must think the following: Does this actor got the charm, charisma or not? Yes yes yes.. and from just few songs I saw, I could say that he’ll be a big star one day.. he’s a good looking, attractive even if he’s (a bit) looks like girly but in future.. he’ll look more muscular got the charisma, everyone would watch the film just for “him” everyone want to see his acting and his ability to be a star.. even the heroine, she’s pretty and I think from the trailer of the film and the songs, she’s talented enough to be a heroine one day.
