Q. Can Akshay Kumar’s Holiday beat the collections of Jai Ho to be the biggest grosser of 2014? – Shreya from Amritsar
A. It’s always hard to predict the lifetime collections of any film. A lot depends on the response the film gets. If Holiday is liked, then it has a great chance of not only beating Jai Ho but going on to be the highest grosser for Akshay Kumar – currently Rowdy Rathore (132 cr).
Even though Akshay has been criticised for not crossing the 70 crore barrier, Holiday will get the widest release (expected to release on 3200+ screens), favourable release weekend (the first big release after IPL hasn’t failed in the last few years) and the Ghajini director factor is also there. However, the music hasn’t clicked, which might dent its opening.

Q. Do you think Rajnikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan can beat Dhoom 3? - Malhardave
A. Absolutely no chance. Rajnikanth’s last film Enthiran didn’t come close to the collections of Bollywood’s highest grosser of its time (3 Idiots) and Dhoom 3 is way ahead with worldwide gross of Rs 546 crore. It remains to be seen how the audience takes to this new technology called “performance capture photorealistic”. To elaborate a little more on the technology and why Kochaidaiiyaan shouldn’t be considered a ‘cartoon’ film, here’s what the film’s director Soundarya Rajinikanth had to say
“Animation is a word, a process. In India, people think animation is cartoon. Avatar was animation, but is not a cartoon. Tintin is completely cartoonistic. I am creating Rajinikanth, where he has actually performed, it’s captured on a camera and then put into a 3D version. Avatar took seven years and so much budget and a James Cameron. There was always the insecurity of the unknown, but we have taken a road never taken in India and broken rules and have completed the film in just a year and a half.”

@Aarush.. why is it that you Akshay fans always predict 175 – 200 before his release.. happened with Boss and OUATIMD.. then after release you guys disappear and return back 2 months before his new film..
Keep your expectations low.. 175 cr is completely out of reach for Akki. For that sort of figure.. opening of 20 cr+ is needed which Akshay cant. Multiplex audience have given up on him long back, he is surviving on masses.

Srk fans are very disappointed now-a-days as ‘Yeh hai bakrapur’ couldn’t break the records of k3 and D3.
But it opened as 27 Lakhs on it’s release date, that’s the power of our global bakra

Holiday may struggle to get huge opening…music has’nt been that popular,title is’nt catchy…i think they should release an action trailer of the film now…
But in the long run it will beat jai ho.

If Salman’s below expectation movie can still set a benchmark (only 2014) for coming movies then imagine what his Blockbusters can do. Haters call Jai Ho as flop & it still leads half of the year. Salman is a truly Megastar !!!!!!

If enthiran didn’t come close then whats its final worldwide gross? Why didn’t u mention it in ur answer? I agree that it has no chance to cross 500cr but the enthiran collections should be mentioned to justify ur answer.
There was a different take for Rowdy Rathore, and it really clicked with good music and dialogues. I found the movie housefull in multipelxes too in the second week.
Unlike people commenting here, however, this movie is more likely targeting the multiplex audience than single theatre goers.
The look and feel is more urban, and with Murgadoss, you can hope it will be good on content.
If the wom is good, it will surely come close or beat Jai Ho.
But the music and other aspects have so far not created much buzz, and now Akki’s mass appeal and content can give it the required boost.
Importantly, post IPL most people do anyways go for a movie outing, as last year’s YJHD being pretty average, still did big business. So, that’s a big plus point that the makers can bank on.

If Srk was very popular then after reading above statement all Indians would have voted against Modi.

This shows noone cares about Srk and want him to leave India and retire from Bollywood.
It certainly can, but the real question should be, will it? I expected it to be Akshay’s highest grosser by beating Rowdy Rathore, and even expected it to collect over 150 crore, which looks very difficult now. Trailer was strictly good, but didn’t meet my expectations, music seems to be mediocre and all the dialogue promos, songs and overused pairing reminds me of their previous films without any creativity. Those the minus points, whereas Akshay in action, remake of a successful film and release time are plus points.
If this question was asked some months ago, I would have said ‘definitely’, but judging by all those things and low buzz, I think it depends on the mood of audience, as Boss (full of chartbuster songs) and Jai Ho (despite of being better than Ready, Bodyguard, Dabangg 2) failed to collect huge which has raised questions over typical masala movies.
It could collect anywhere between 100-150 crore, or even struggle to cross 100 crore if audience gives it a bye as Boss, which had much better soundtracks.
Jai ho is plus movie. But Holiday hindi movie is a average movie.
So, Holiday cannot beat Jai ho.
