Boss Second Day Box Office Update

Akshay Kumar’s Boss extended its excellent run at single-screens on Day 2, but the cause of concern continued to be its multiplex business where the film has dropped by 40-50% on its second day.

As per early estimates based on collections from a few centres, Boss has collected around 7 – 8 crore on its second day at the domestic box office.

Friday is a holiday in some parts of the country for Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, but Saturday and Sunday will be crucial in deciding the film’s fate at the box office. So far, the response at mass-centres has been fantastic, but way below-the-mark at big centres and multiplexes. If these centres manage to pick up over the course of the weekend, then Boss could get close to collecting 50 crore in its 5 day extended weekend.

After the failure of Besharam and now with Boss not opening as well as it was expected to, the big topic of discussion in the trade is about extended weekends. Are 5 day extended weekends too risky? Is it a safer bet to release films on a normal Friday, thereby avoiding the risk of word-of-mouth killing a potentially good 3 day weekend?

If Boss doesn’t show adequate growth in business on Saturday and Sunday, producers might think twice before continuing the trend that started with films like Ghajini and 3 Idiots.

  • How did Ra.One do 86crs in its 5 day extended weekend despite having the worse word of mouth in history. I am actually starting to rate shahrukh khan.

  • How Ra.One did it? well, when the hero is someone like SRK then can be happend….
It’s not SRK fauit that others can’t do it….

  • Hey guys 1 more thing is recession in India so it might be affecting the collections its so unlikely that even big movies R not collecting that much as expected.just. A neutral view from business perspective. What do you guys think. R people having hard time so just choosing selected movies even with biggies

  • akshay kumar and his fans wasted their time and energy in making the largest poster in the world
never count ur chicks until they hatch

  • @indicine i heard that chennai express i made 2.5 cr in egypt please publish an article about the total worldwide gross of chennai express

  • @rs
SRK Fans Are Huge In Numbers. So Ra.One Did 115crs Despite Bad WOM Without Much Bigger Drops In Collections.

  • Only one superstar has been consistently been #1 since 25 years…..u know who it is….Rest all are fake stars.

  • A bad film is a bad film. No amount of hype and publicity will save it. Word of mouth can make or break a film. Though as the personn above said – how did Ra.One make 86 crs in its extended weekend when the word of mouth was terrbile from day one itself? Ra.One crashed only after the weekend but still made 114 crores and became a hit. Same story with bodyguard. Shows the power of the Khans.

  • will pick up in the weekend. multiplex audience are idiots, they wait for someone in the family to say a movie is GOOD…still the actors/producers are in confusion, which type of movies are going to be recieved by these type of audience?/grand masti and crappiest movie of year chennai express, is been recieved by same audience. what an irony of indian cinema???pathetic!!!

  • @Rs Ra.One callected huge coz it had 50 crore promotion and SRK tld big lies and fake claims that Ra.One is greatest film ever.
And Ra.One couldnt even cross its budget in India lol

  • SRK with probably one of the worst mouth of word movie RA.ONE which can ridiculed everywhere from multiplexes to urban areas to even social networking managed to collect 118 crores + 75 cr(overseas)== 200 crores !!!! This is the main difference between SRK and any other superstars in the movie industry.

The problem with AKHSAY is that his film which are good are just for multiplexed and which are not that good have been targeted at urban areas. So that is making his movies collect low.Or else I would easily rate AKHSAY above SALMAN at any time!!!!

  • Feeling sad for akki he should do movies like S26 now puplic didn,t trust him They trust ranbir, ajay more than akki Boss should collect 100 crores 2days collection of boss=less then1day collection of besharam

  • @rs
SRK and salman are superstars they dont need WOM for ist weekend ,lifetime depends on WOM ,but opening weekend shows star power

  • @rs
Buddy Ra.One Was Released During Diwali….It Had 3 day holiday to Benefit The Movie plus Sunday…so That’s Y It collected 86cr in extended weekend…Boss Released on Partly Holiday nd do not have any Holiday during it’s extended weekend to Benefit the Movie……

  • Japan can release an unpopular movie like Umizaru 4 and gross $93m domestically,
Mexico can release an unpopular movie like Instructions Not Included and gross $43m in the US.
Indians are still struggling with $60m worldwide collections.
Conclusion – All indian films are flops including the so called ATBBs.

  • @sallu,

Ra.One and Besharam are the biggest flop in the last 10 years, because both didn’t collect its budget.

    Ra.one – Budget 175 cr, collected 120 cr
Besharam – Budget 80 cr, collected around 60 cr.

Overseas collection, as put by Indicine, is always inflated figures and doesn’t make any sense.

The collection of BOSS most likely will pick up by weekend.
