Bollywood stars who came crashing down in 2013

Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn had two flops in 2013: Himmatwala and Satyagraha

Ajay Devgn was soaring high recently with 100 crore hits like Golmaal 3, Bol Bachchan and Singham. But in 2013, his acting career came crashing down with both his film releases flopping at box office. Himmatwala which was touted to be a big hit by the director of the film Sajid Khan himself turned out to be a huge disaster. Also, his social drama, Satyagraha, which was a multi-starrer did not do too well either.

Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar had two flops: OUATIMD and Boss

Akshay Kumar got over the disappoints of 2012 with a critically appreciated film like Special 26. But all of that was undone with two big flops to his name – the much-awaited Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara and Boss. OUATIMD, the sequel to the critically acclaimed hit Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, would have probably fared better had it released alongside Chennai Express, but the decision to push the film forward by a week turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes of the year. However, as a film too OUATIMD turned out to be a damp squib. Boss couldn’t help recover his fortunes either and ended up as a box office failure. With quite a few interesting films like Gabbar and Holiday lined up for release in 2014, except the superstar to make a strong comeback – like he always has!

Imran Khan

Imran Khan had a poor year: Matru Ki BIjlee.. OUATIMD and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein all failed

Imran Khan had a disaster year in 2013 with three of his films sinking without a trace at the box office. He started the year with a below average grosser like Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. But what damaged his reputation was Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara. He looked terribly misplaced and miscast in the film. Towards the end of the year, Dharma Productions’ Gori Tere Pyaar Mein was supposed to help him regain his reputation but that film turned out to be one of the biggest disasters of the year.

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor delivered two flops: Satyagraha and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein

Kareena Kapoor Khan who was riding high just two years ago having worked with all the three Khans, had a downer of a year in 2013. Her two films Satyagraha and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein both under-performed massively. Even though her acting was mildly liked in Satyagraha, the film flopped and her awkward kiss with Ajay Devgn was one of the worst screen moments of 2013. Gori Tere yaar Mein could have made it all better but the public showed no interest in turning up to watch this romantic comedy.

Sanjay Dutt

Zila Ghaziabad, Zanjeer and Policegiri all failed.

Sanjay Dutt suffered setbacks after setbacks in 2013 both professionally and personally. He had three film releases in 2013 – Zila Ghaziabad, Zanjeer and Policegiri. All of three films set new levels in being poor films and their box office performances reflected the quality of those films. Unfortunately what hit him the hardest in 2013 was being re-imprisoned once again for a 20 year old case.

Sunny Deol

Sunny Deol gave two flops – Yamla Pagla Deewana and Singh Saab The Great

Sunny Deol had two releases in 2013 and one aborted release. The sequel to the funny Yamla Pagla Deewana arrived a week after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and opened decently in North India. Sadly, the makers couldn’t duplicate the humour of the previous film and the film flopped. Sunny Deol then tried his hand once again at a Gadar-esque film called Singh Sahab The Great. Sadly, neither the story nor the direction could do his screen presence any favour and the film sank after a decent weekend.

Sonakshi Sinha

Critical acclaim for her performance in Lootera wasn’t good enough. All films except R.. Rajkumar failed.

Cut to January 1 2013. Sonakshi Sinha was supposed to be the lucky charm of filmmakers. But now a year later all that has changed. With the exception of the hit R.. Rajkumar, all of the films she appeared in 2013 flopped. Even though she impressed the critics with her performance as Pakhi in Lootera, the film did not do too well. Her next two ventures Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara and Bullett Raja also flopped. The audience is tired of seeing her play the same character in film after film. Maybe it’s time for some reinvention in 2014 for Shotgun Junior!

  • Aksay was the most disappointing. Looking back at his old movies, he was great as an action hero and in films which he acted in business executive roles. Recently he seems stuck in the comedy and Southern style super hero which do not suit his persona. I hope he gets back to his former roles..

  • @Ehinome : Better bother about Nigeria or Kenya wherever you are. So according to you ETT was a masala movie ? Where were you when Salman did movies like Phir Milenge (about Aids awareness), Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (first bollywood movie about surrogate) or Garv – The Pride n Honour? Oh yeah !! you were watching Srk’s masala movies like OSO n Main Hoon Naa n you talk about Salman !!! you are a Double standard guy !!!!

  • Mumbai: Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who garnered appreciation for her performance in Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Lootera’, is unhappy that the film failed to get nominated for this year’s movie awards.
The actress took to Twitter to share her disappointment, adding that the film had received enough appreciation for it to be nominated.
“Disheartening how ‘Lootera’ has been held back from most of the nominations this year. Didn’t they call it a masterpiece, poetry in motion, world-class and technically superior film when it released? That seems like qualification enough to be out there,” Sonakshi tweeted Wednesday.
The period drama, which also featured Ranveer Singh in the lead, received a mixed response after its release.
Although the actress has been nominated in the Best Actress category for the 20th Annual Life OK Screen Awards, she felt ‘out of place’ as no one else from the film was nominated.
“Not nominating Vikramaditya for Best Director, Ranveer for acting, Amit Trivedi for music, (Mahendra) Shetty for cinematography, Aditya (Kanwar) for art, Subarna (Ray Chaudhuri) for costumes, Amitabh (Bhattacharya) for lyrics makes my nomination feel so out of place,” she said.
Sonakshi said she is proud of the film, irrespective of whether it wins awards or not.
“…this is a very special film, (I) will always be proud of ‘Lootera’ whether or not they acknowledge us,” tweeted Sonakshi, who has been seen in films like ‘Dabangg’, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ and ‘R…Rajkumar’

  • This thead is about all about crashing star of 2013 and thought srk won’t feature here. But going by haters comment it’s looks he should also nominated here. Some people don’t sleep and just waiting for any srk related article to talk nonsense.
@ true fan. Research first and then comment

  • I agree … But R Rajkumar budget-50cr ,collection-70cr = Hit …. Satyagraha budget -50cr , collection -70cr = flop …. Why this partiallity…

  • the biggest flop is none other than Sajid Khan.

with his big mouth he spoke so much that he never had a place to hide when his film flopped.

his big claim of stopping to make film if ever his film flops is now, just like him, a fat lie.

    @aeeyy

“It’s like Sachin Tendulkar failing in one innings and people saying that he should retire! ”

I liked that comment regarding Akshay.

Akshay and Ajay are here to stay for sometime.

Kareena is losing her charm faster, and she should now change her image with strong character roles.

Imran Khan will just hang in there doing some itsy bitsy roles.

Sanju will be back with his role in PK and Munnabhai in a few years.

Sona is loved by masses. I would never write her off. She has oodles of energy and will surely come up triumphs. But, she needs to lose weight big time, as looks do matter, esp. for glam roles.

  • Highest grossers since 2008:
    2008-Aamir
    2009-Aamir
    2010-Salman
    2011-Salman
    2012-Salman
    2013-Aamir
Aamir and Salman wont have given 3 highest grossers in 6 years without being #1
They are the undisputed #1 duo

  • @aeeyy,I voted for akshay, because I think he would have seen himmatwala 5times.hope next year will be the same for aaki.good joke, sonakshi better than deepika.please continue that twitter stuffs, everyone good rofled at that.as clearly decided, this year014 will be huge dissapointment for sal-mir fans.

  • @sss I am not against SRK and you can vote for Akki as much as you like
But i always think you should appreciate others work so that they can continue to excel.Look at Vidya, since she was appreciated for DIRTY PICTURE,she again did KAHAANI since she knew she would be appreciated

  • @aeeyy,I’m also not against akshay,he is one of my favourite like hr.why you said bad against SRK at screen award’s article,”he should arrested and hve to watch hw 5times”,I didn’t vote akshay rather than imran, because I liked special26.you akshay and hr guys why said against SRK,at least care about them who respect your stars.I also respect for other films like lootera and also sonakshi deserves so as deepika for ramleela and CE,didn’t you remember sonakshi got all awards at her 1st movie dabang,at that was she deserved that?SRK got awards due to his popularity category not a single critics, which ever site you want you can check SRK is the popular actor of 2013,he gets that what he deserved,so stop criticizing like sal-mir fans.

  • @aeeyy,it’s ok.ajay devgan got punished last year for releasing sos against JTHJ, this year he is safe due to master director rohit shetty, but after that again his Himmatwala time will start.

  • There is no need for including Sunny Deol & Sanjay Dutt .The year 2013 was dissapointing for Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar,Emraan Hashmi & Imran Khan as well as Sonakshi Sinha

  • i hope sonakshi retires from bollywood tired of seeing this aunty.Shraddha kapoor is more beautiful and talented than her.

  • Mirza Bhuiyan 1575/6637The main idea of this video is to show the way of teaching in scohols these days. Students are getting everything ready instead of making ready for themselves. There so many students going to scohols and having their education but they don’t even know why they are learning all these stuff in school. Doing a great analysis on this problem a honorable high school teacher used the math subject as an great example of wrong ways of teaching in scohols. These teaching problems is so wide spread that even he scared to being consider a bad teacher to all other student and also scare of losing his job. He shows some intention that students are having to make their life easier and also shows some strategy that most student using to solve a particular math problem. That type of strategy that keeps those students away from being enlightened their brain and also make them unconscious what they actually doing. He showed some strategy that he uses for student to teach math. He thinks a teacher should let a student do solve their own problems by taking teachers help instead of just getting the solution without knowing how they came up and memorizing all math problems. He also pick up a sight of student is patience. Students just want to know the answer without understanding the problem. Modern technology also having a bad effect on student mind.
