Best Akshay Kumar Songs: Top 10

Update: First published on August 16 2013. Article updated on Akshay’s 47th birthday.

Akshay Kumar is the only actor in industry whose movies have cumulatively grossed more than Rs 2000 crores at the Box Office. The superstar has surprisingly managed to successfully maintain his superstardom even after having 4-5 big releases every year. Much like his father-in-law the legendary Rajesh Khanna, Kumar has also featured in many chartbuster songs and has made them even more special with his dynamic presence.

Hence it was an uphill task to choose 10 Best songs of the Khiladi of Bollywood. Here it is

1) Chura Ke Dil Mera: Akshay left a unique stamp while performing this song and made it his own. This amazing composition from Anu Malik is one of the very few songs which manage to mix the melody and pop is appropriate proportions. Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik sang this super-hit song from ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ which is picturised brilliantly on Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty.

2) Tu Cheez Badi Hai: This superb chartbuster from the movie ‘Mohra’ ruled the charts for months. The track, composed by Viju Shah and sung by Udit Narayan & Kavitha, is based on the popular qawwali “Dam Mast Qalandar” by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Akshay won million hearts with his energetic dance in an Arabian outfit. Such was the craze of the song that Raveena Tandon is still known as ‘Mast Mast’ girl.

3) Hare Krishna Hare Ram: Pritam stylishly composed this foot tapping title track of ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ in the voice of Neeraj Sridhar. Sameer’s lyrics raised few controversies but song’s huge popularity was instrumental in the box-office success of the movie. Akshay’s dance number was the first choice of all dance clubs in 2007.

4) Dil Ne Ye Kaha Hai Dil Se : ‘Dhadkan’ marked the grand return of one of the most successful music director duo – Nadeem Shravan. This song was rendered vocals by legends – Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. Featuring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Shilpa Shetty, Dhadkan’s music rocked the charts in 2000 and eventually became a major factor in the success of the movie.

5) Seedhe Saadhe Akshay: Well it won’t be wrong to call this one, the signature song of Akshay Kumar. Infact, I cannot remember any other actor who performed on a song written on his name. Also, this Anu Malik’s composition from ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi’ came out when Akshay was miles away from his current superstar status and it showed that Kumar was destined for success in future. ‘Na Hum Amitabh, na Dilip Kumar, Na kisi Hero Ke bachche , hum hain seedhe saadhe Akshay’.

6.) Bas Ek King: Again rocking lyrics – ‘Ek color ke 13 patte, lekin sab mein bas ek King’. Pritam composed yet another blasting title song for Akki (after Bhool Bhulaiya, Bhagam Bhaag, Garam Masala) in the stylish voice of Mika. ‘Singh Is King’ came when Akshay was enjoying the peak of his career in 2008.

7.) Dil Ka Qaraar: Although the crime thriller ‘Sangharsh’ could do much at the ticket window, it is still remembered for its brilliant music and the power packed performances given by Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta and Ashutosh Rana. This song sung by Sonu Nigam and Shradhdha Pandit is an absolute beauty to the ears.

8.) Wada Raha: This smooth love ballad from Khakee is audio-visually one of the best songs. The song’s video direction, featuring Akshay with Aishwarya Rai, is perfectly in synch with the music. The delightful visuals stop and start in between to go with the tune of Ram Sampath. Both Arnab Chakraborty and Shreya Ghoshal are sensational in this song.

9.) Falak Tak: Tashan marked the return of Akshay Kumar (Bachchan Pandey) in Yash Raj Films after ‘Yeh Dillagi’ and ‘Dil to Pagal Hai’. Vijay Krishna Acharya’s first Film could not make an impact at the ticket window and halted Akshay’s run of 5 back to back hits. ‘Falak Tak’ is sung by Udit Narayan and Mahalaxmi and is picturized wonderfully on Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor.

10.) Mehbooba Mehbooba: Akshay re-united with his Khiladi director duo Abbas-Mustan and left a lasting impression as a negative guy in ‘Ajnabee’. This chartbuster song is composed by Anu Malik and it marked the debut of Bipasha Basu and Adnan Sami in Bollywood. Song comes at a very important point in the movie and adds a lot of thrill.

Akshay has plenty of hit songs to his credit and that is evident from the historic musical success of albums like ‘Namaste London’, ‘Desi Boyyz’, ‘Khiladi 786’, ‘Aitraaz’, ‘Welcome’ and ‘Garam Masala’. Unfortunately, we cannot include all in this relatively small list. Other soulful songs featuring Akki are ‘Waada Raha Sanam’(Khiladi), ‘Humein Tumse Hua Hai Pyaar’(Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo), ‘Meri Wafayein Yaad Karoge’ (Sainik), ‘Aye Kaash Kahin Aisa Hota’(Mohra), ‘Gore Gore Mukhde Pe’ (Suhaag) and ‘Kyun Main Jagoon’ (Patiala House).
