Besharam continued its disastrous run at the box office on Friday, as the Abhinav Kashyap film witnessed further drops in key centres. After a good start on the first day (19.73 crore) the film dropped by more than 65% on its second day with all India net business of 6.65 crore. No other film that opened so big, has dropped to such low numbers a day after its release. The impact of negative word-of-mouth publicity has been quick and deadly!
The downward trend continued on Friday too, as Besharam fell by 20-30% in several centres. As per early estimates based on collections from a few centres, the film has collected around 5 – 5.5 crore on its third day to take its total to around 32 crore net. It was a holiday in some parts of the country, so it remains to be seen if business has picked up in those areas.
To put things into perspective, the 3rd day collections of Besharam is lower than the 11th day (i.e second Monday) business of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani!
All-India distributors Reliance Entertainment who have invested around 98 crore on the film, will end up losing about 30 crore of their investment. Exhibitors have no film to bring in the audience, as Grand Masti in its 4th week of release is losing steam. The only film that is currently doing well is The Lunchbox, but its business is limited to major cities only.
Unless Besharam miraculously picks up over the weekend and sustains over the weekdays (highly unlikely), the dry spell will continue for the next 11 days before Akshay Kumar’s Boss hits theatres!
Abhinav is in the industry only because of salman khan , at the time of realease of d2 he was criticising the movie, now see what he has done with his own film. thank god salman didn’t agree with his direction n changed many things in dabangg … Arbaaz khan is much better than him

When I read in last week of July-13, I was surprized. How could the website forgot to mention Chennai Express which was set for release on 9th August!! The website had simply forgotten the power of SRK, Deepika and Rohit!!

that’s also drop of around 65 percent. though the film collected lot just because of SALMAN.
Ranbir kapoor has been in this industry for only five years & achieved what the khan trio has achieved after 20 to 25 years so that shows that he a bigger star than these trio.by the time ranbir completes 25 years in cinema he would have became the god of indian cinema so such small failures would not affect him in any way!

Besharam fell another 15% on Friday after the epic 65% crash on Thursday. The collections on Friday were around 5.75 crore nett which takes it 3 day total to 31.50 crore nett.

Saturday and Sunday should see better collections but when collections are already down to the 6 crore nett levels it all becomes irrelevant. Saturday may be up a little or in the same range while Sunday should be up by 10-15% so the film is looking to add another 13 crore nett which would give it a five day weekend of around 45 crore nett.
Even if the film had fallen 50% on day two it could have been safe as it would have got a 50 crore share while now it is losses all around with the lifetime share struggling to hit even 35 crore.
Besharam crashed after a strong start. The warning signs were there on day one as collections came off noticeably in the evening. The film saw one of the biggest day to days drops at 65%. The business over the first two days was a little under 26 crore nett. FLOP

@Noam: Incorrect. Ek Tha Tiger collected Rs 32.92 crore on Day 1 and followed it up with 14.52 crore on Day 2. Drop of 55% is acceptable, because the first day business was very close to capacity. Remember, Besharam had a wider release than Ek Tha Tiger. So the business on its opening day itself was around 50-55%. But falling down to 6 crore on 3550 screens is a new low for any film ever. Even Himmatwala collected about 2 cr more than Besharam on Day 2.
We are simply reporting facts here, nothing against Ranbir Kapoor or Abhinav Kashyap.

The two most bankable stars are undoubtedly Salman and Shahrukh. Both have consistently delivered 100 crore grossers with ease in the last few years. But since you have specifically asked us to pick just one actor (at the risk of being called biased by those who dislike him) it has to be Shahrukh Khan. For the simple reason that he has attempted different genres. Even some of his films that were universally ridiculed have managed to collect more than 100 crore in India.
Ra One (superhero) – With budget constraints, superhero films are risky. Ra One was slammed by the critics, ridiculed on social media.. but by the end of its run the film collected more than 200 crores worldwide.
Don 2 (thriller) – Had little or no mass-appeal and was mainly targeted towards the multiplex audience. The film had no songs, critics didn’t praise it either. But, 100 cr+ in India, 200 cr+ worldwide.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (romance) – Yash Chopra tragically passed away a month before the film’s release, A.R. Rahman’s music was way below expectations, faced stiff competition from a massy-entertainer like Son Of Sardaar, lost a few crores due to Bal Thackerey’s death.. But the result? 200 crore+ worldwide
Then came Chennai Express, which got the best release date and the rest is history.
Yes, Salman has been much more successful at the domestic box office. His last 5 films have all been blockbusters, but most belong to the same genre which is a mixture of action, comedy and romance. Aamir has a massive audience too, and Talaash would have easily collected 100 cr+ if it released during a holiday weekend without competition from so many films. But since it didn’t cross 100, we cannot even consider him. Ranbir’s Besharam is likely to wrap up under 100 and Hrithik has only one film in the 100 crore club.
