Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam started well in the morning, and in-spite of all the negativity on social-networking websites, the film didn’t show any signs of slowing down as the day progressed. In fact, at most multiplexes collections improved with each show. Late night shows witnessed drops, which is normal since tomorrow is a working day.
The response at smaller centres and single-screen dominated circuits like Bihar and C.P was average. Mysore circuit where Ranbir Kapoor films usually tend to perform well wasn’t on the same level as Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which released on a working day.
Very early estimates, based on business from select centres in different circuits, suggest that the first day business of Besharam is likely to be around 20-21 crore. That is about 20% lower than what most in the trade expected.
The film had a wider release compared to Ranbir’s last film and Besharam was also expected to take full advantage of the national holiday for Gandhi Jayanti.
Overall, the first day business is satisfactory. The next two days will decide the film’s fate at the box office.
