Bang Bang has collected Rs 94.13 crore in its first extended weekend at the box office, which is about 10% lower than the first 4 days collections of Shahrukh Khan’s 2013 Eid release Chennai Express.
Quick points on the release circumstances of the two films
- Chennai Express released on 3500 screens in India, while Bang Bang has released on 4300 according to Fox Star Studios.
- Chennai Express released on the holiday for Eid considered to be one of the best periods for film releases. Bang Bang released about 3 weeks before Diwali and during the the Navratri period, which is not considered to be the best time to release films.
- Chennai Express had a solo release, Bang Bang released alongside Haider which released on 1250 screens in India.
- Both films were commercial entertainers with two of the most bankable male and female stars in the country (domestic business only).
- Chennai Express trended very well and went on to be one of the biggest grossers of all time. It could probably have been even bigger if not for the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaraa the following week.

Just looking at the CE’s daywise collections…
How easy it looks to get into 200crs club..but it is certainly not.
You forgot to mention one more thing. For Bang Bang , starting four days were holidays/semi-holidays. None of the recent biggies has enjoyed such a huge beneficial period at Box office. Even Monday was a semi holiday in most of the parts of country. Question is not about the first four days collection of Bang Bang, but the main worry is, the way it trended on Saturday and Sunday I’m afraid if it could recover it’s cost I.e. 140 cr. Still wishing good luck to Bang Bang so that at least it should get a semi hit status if not hit or BB.

BB is a universal acclaimed movie earning 175 crores in 4 days , inspite of lot negativity around it…Though it may get a Hit status by end of its run ,due to its budget. It is really a bloackbuster movie for HR fans…

I am a die hard srk fan but i know salman,aamir,hritick,akshay are bigger stars than him.
wat a big deal if happy new year becomes 1st 300 cr movie.are bhai hamare king ko bhi toh koi record banane do.sare records toh Amir n Salman k naam hai box office collection k.like 1st 50cr,100cr,150,200,250 all.n even in abroad Aamir hold the records.so ye ll b happy if our king make some record and hold it for a long time.n plz Srk fans dnt say that ddlj record.everyone knows how that is making it.n u agree or not bt it’s true that in ddlj success Srk contribution was not that great.it was music n story that made movie blockbuster bcoz at the time of release both kajol n Srk was small stars.that movie made them not they made the movie.

It is an interesting comparison . CE broke all records in 2013 . The movie released on Eid one of the most profitable festival periods . Bang Bang released on Gandhi Jayanti . Bang Bang released with a clash . So let’s see how far can Bang Bang go ? I really want Bang Bang to collect 200 CR . Fingers crossed .

oops, this is not fair comparison. CE is different genre. To be honest, it was a pleasant surprise that CE did so well . We like 2 see SRK more in CDI, swades, MNIK, KHNH, veer-zara… type movies…

@sky if jai ho released with d3 then it might have collected 125 cr. if singham return released with kick then kick would have done only 110 cr. even I reduced first 6 days of ce collection (130 cr) still it did 97 cr with competition from otimd, madras cafe, satyagraha etc.
