Bang Bang First Day Collections: Early Estimate

Bang Bang has collected Rs 27-29 crore on its opening day at the box office, as per estimates based on collections from a few centres. The film took a gigantic opening on Thursday morning, which was the best occupany-wise for a film released in 2014.

Several exhibitors have confirmed to us that the ‘show count’ of Bang Bang at multiplexes was around 20-30% lower than Kick and Jai Ho, and also about 20% lower than Singham Returns. More than the screen count and the number of theatres, the number of shows is what stopped Bang Bang from putting up record-breaking numbers on Day 1.

Although Fox Star Studios has officially announced that the film has released on 4300 screens in India, trade sources have confirmed to us that the film has released on approx 3500-3600 screens including regional versions, which is the lowest for a big release in 2014.

A few other exhibitors have also informed us that the ‘Navratri’ festivities could have also made a slight dent in business in centres like West Bengal, Gujarat and a few others. At a multiplex in Valsad, the first day business was lower than both Agneepath and Krrish 3.

Add to it the fact that the film was competing with a critically acclaimed film like ‘Haider’, and the first day business of Bang Bang is excellent to say the least. All eyes will now be on how the film sustains over the extended weekend. The media and industry backing that ‘Haider’ is getting could begin to affect the business of Bang Bang at bigger centres today onwards.

Update: The official Twitter handle of Fox Star Studios has tweeted “Bang-buster news- #BangBangMovie set to be in the Top 5 openings of all time. New records for Hrithik & Katrina Kaif. Have u gone Bang Bang yet?”

The Top 5 opening of all time before the release of Bang Bang is as follows: Dhoom 3 – 36.22 cr, Chennai Express – 33.12 cr, Ek Tha Tiger – 32.93 cr, Singham Returns – 32.09 cr, Kick – 26.40 cr.

  • @Nipun, your critic uncle Rajeev Masand and critic aunty, Anupama Chopra, just gave 2 and 2.5 to Bang Bang respectively. What do u say about them?
Don’t ask me about them. I hate them because they give shit reviews to Salman and Akki films no matter if the films are good or bad.

  • It seems fishy!! when Fox star confirmed that the film has been released on 4.300 screens, then why some trade experts are stuck on 3,600 screens?? does that mean they have not been able to track the rest of the screens?? does it mean that they are going to claim once again that the collection is manipulated?? if the film has been released on 4,300 screens, then we want to get the collection of those added number screens!! and we also want the trade experts to tract all the screens of Bang Bang!!

  • There is a Director who spent 4 years for this movie…
There is a man who risked his life to do the film… Was almost abt to gi to come…

Yet some haters are trying their best to degrade this movie…
If you cant respect it, atleast stop barking morons…

  • Hrithik doesn’t deserve being cast in Bang Bang. He is suffering with many diseases & using body doubles.

  • @Queenshuk Bhattacharya…
Yaa we r expecting 35 day coz we think Indian audience have some sense of what an comedy-Action-Thriller is meant to be..

If they dont, thats really unfortunate…

  • indicine on what basis u gave 4***** to kick?
Bang bang Is way better than Kick M comparing bang bang with Kick as both movies belongs to same Genre I.e Action genre
N u also Said Kick will cross 300 crs remember your article?
Then what happened? why kick Couldn’t cross 300 cr will u explain?

  • @Carnage, u gave all the excuses for Bang Bang. Won’t u say the same for Kick? U hypocrite! Kick was a non-holiday release and that too, during Ramadhan!
The same Salman, during the lowest phase of his career, clashed with Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherji who were on top of his career in 2009.
YRF’s Dil Bole Hadippa vs Boney’s Wanted! Who won? Salman has, since then, made Eid Release like Big Festive Release. Otherwise, no one else had cared releasing movies during Eid.

  • Romance take: There’s no thrill in Bang Bang, a desi adaptation of the Hollywood action thriller Knight & Day, but only bullets, bombs and gadgets. Five minutes into the film, Sujoy Ghosh and Suresh Nair’s so-called screenplay is cracked. The remaining two hours and 30 minutes are spent on a ridiculous, unending story which starts off with a terrorist, Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), who wants the Kohinoor so that an extradition treaty between UK and India isn’t signed. Enter, in slo-mo no less, Rajveer (Hrithik Roshan), who flicks the coveted diamond around and then goes on a world tour with it. Tagging along with him as excess baggage is a puffy-faced bank receptionist, Harleen ( Katrina Kaif).
Rajveer is exciting, in Harleen’s words; while Harleen is boring because she doesn’t live in the present, hasn’t stepped out of Shimla and scouts for boys on a dating site called trueluvv.com. You know there’s something totally wrong when Kaif is cast as a twenty-something girl who has to find love on the internet. She is dragged into his action-packed mission and even though she is irritated about it we all know that she is secretly pleased given her desire to travel and how she is caught ogling at Rajveer’s bare, tanned, vein-popping torso. One of the very few accomplishments of the film is when Harleen questions Rajveer as to why haven’t they slept together yet. Looking for logic and consistency in Bang Bang is a losing battle. The editing is all over the place, as the directionless Anand shuttles from London to Delhi to Shimla randomly. One moment, Rajveer and Harleen are eating pan crust pizzas at what we think is the most isolated Pizza Hut in the world — located in snow-capped mountains in the middle of nowhere — and minutes later they jump off a cliff and embark on road, air and sea travel, during which Rajveer manages to shop for clothes for Harleen, groceries and cool underwater gadgets, and land on an island, where they are castaways enjoying coconut water and kebabs. The duo swim from one island to another, hop onto a train and are in bed, separate ones mind you, in Prague. Travel agencies and travel enthusiast would be envious with the ease with which they commute.
That’s not it. Roshan’s curls and hair colour change at the blink of an eye. Ostentatious amount of money is spent on shooting songs on garish sets and filled with outrageously dressed extras or in innumerable foreign locales with Kaif’s bank receptionist strutting about like a supermodel. You know the film is nearing the finishing line when Roshan has performed stunts on land, under water and on it and up in the air. But by now, so tired is one with the series of nonsensical events that even when Ghosh and Nair name a house, again located in the middle of nowhere, ‘Ghar’, one isn’t amused. Roshan fits the part of an action hero but the incessant stunts, which took a toll on his health, also begin to tire the audiences. Kaif and him make for an attractive pair who occasionally banter and otherwise dodge bullets and participate in fantastical song-and-dance routines.
Bang Bang knows how to make a lot of noise, but it’s the kind where you want to shut your ears and escape. Make sure it isn’t Prague or London. At one point, Kaif’s Harleen compares how her life has turned into an action film ever since she met Rajveer. There are vital adjectives missing there. It’s a bad and boring one. Sureshoot flop.

  • let me tell u
bang bang is releasing around 3350 screen (Hindi) in India. south version is around 250 screen.
    so total is 3600 screen.
1st day collection between 28 to 30 cr is more than enough.
critics r doing their work. they give 1.5-2/5 for wanted.
everyone knows result this rating is same for ready, bodyguard, ett, dabangg 2, jai ho. but results r blockbuster.
and they gives 4/5 for guzarish what happen…..

  • Mind blowing movie. It transcends Knight and day to next dimension. I would call this movie Duke and day. The stunts are out of this world. this movie is a true Kohinoor.
It is definitely a wealthy Man’s knight and day.
Last time I felt such an adrenaline rush was 8 years ago you guessed it Dhoom 2.
Hrithik is unbelievable never have I seen the amazing combination of an actor and a superstar. He fit his character like glove. Katrina was drop dead gorgeous and her best acting since mere brother ki dulhan
This movie deserves to be first 300 crore grosser.

  • I watched the film today, comedy fails to make u laugh, some action scenes are unique but have no purpose in the story, just use to distract the audience. Bang Bang is Agent Vinod 2. The acting was verry bad by most actors, they were almost reading directly from the script. I was bored and almost wanted to walk out. I dont think it will do more than 150 cr.
    My rating of Bangbang
    1.25/5

  • those who saying BANG BANG has negative word of mouth are the khans fans who don’t want any other actor to enjoy success not even shahid. see this audience reaction and see how positive it is you bloody haters.

  • bang bang is big bore.. . . .haider is a really nice movie and it is not boring like lotera which was also a good movie.

  • @Queenshuk, when did i say Knight & Day is bad… Its gud but its a Hollywood film & that type of Action is quite common in Hollywood..
But the action in Bang Bang is never seen before in Bollywood…

  • Look at crying @nipun. Accept reality. In whole bollywood history no actor fans have cried as much as Hr fans have. Only Hr fans have problem with collections.

  • 27.54crs(hindi) telugu,tamil to be added..
Slightly disappointing but that has to do with FOX n other sources providing misleading info abt screens.BB never got 4300scrns..it released on 3600scr and its shows were much lower than kick n sr..i checked on bookmyshow for many cities kick n sr had 16-17 shows while BB only got 12-13 comparable to ek villain n 2states..
    With this perspective,no. are fantastic!!
